Greg Oden’s Gonna Play!
NBA November 12th. 2008, 6:30pm
The early prognosis when Greg Oden injured his foot in the first quarter on opening night against the Lakers: 4-6 weeks. Then it became 2-4 weeks. And now, fragile rookie Greg Oden is returning to the court tonight, just two weeks and a day after landing on Derek Fisher’s foot.
Any coincidence that Oden’s returning on a night Portland is playing Miami in a nationally-televised game on ESPN? We hope not. He doesn’t turn 21 for two months. What’s the rush?
At least we found our Wednesday night entertainment: Rudy Fernandez and Brandon Roy against Dwyane Wade, and rookie Michael Beasley against LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden. There’s some other decent NBA action tonight: the unbeaten Hawks traveling to Boston, and the winless Wizards hosting the Jazz.
Unrelated: We have no clue what Hank Baskett is talking about here. None.

Shuffleboard?
November 12th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
I’m older than him, yet he looks older than me. Kinda sad
November 12th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Hopefully Roy plays tonight
November 12th, 2008 at 6:42 pm

@jpq1999 – Nate says Oden is gonna play 15-20 off the bench so I predict an injury at the 21 min mark
November 12th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Maybe he was thinking this?
November 12th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

@beaver: Thanks for the info. I’m calling my bookie as we speak.

Anyone that bets on NBA games is a complete degenerate. I don’t want to hear otherwise.
November 12th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Rudy Fernandez on Rudy Fernandez:
“Rudy is not everyday a shooter. He’s defense. He’s passes. He’s assists.”
Rudy Fernandez on Pau Gasol:
Several weeks back, when asked by OregonLive.com’s Sean Meagher whom in the NBA he most looked forward to playing against, Fernandez replied:
“Pau. I’ve never played against him, only on the same team. I want to put points on your face.”
November 12th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
says Baskett. “Ever since I met her, this is the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. And every day she does something else that makes me fall in love with her.”
Those girls who can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch will do that to ya.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
I think TBL wishes that was Greg Odens dick and not Santonios
November 12th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
TBL, you GOTTA mention Lakers v Hornets! Kobe and the gang may be a team that can win 70 games. They’re going to need tough roadies like this one to get there (even though they haven’t really played anyone – the jury’s still out on Houston & Portland). Suddenly they’re among the best defensive teams in the league, and Ariza is looking like a poor man’s Flash.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
helluva block by batun! what hustle by the rook.
i feel like dropping a meg ryan quote, circa when harry met sally: “i went to bed at 8 o clock last night.”
its 810 and im in bed with the cpu, a book and a mag. i will probably be asleep soon. up at 6 am, 9 hrs at the computer, 40 mins of weights, ran two miles, and 15 minutes in the pool. tired!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
oh shit! knocked up is on. missed the first few mins, which i like a lot. but the club scene is happening now … so there’s still plenty of goodness. seth rogen making this happen is what movies are made for.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
“40 mins of weights”.
What kind of results you want young man. And if you did that all in one workout regimen you are kidding yourself.
Wake up, run the miles. Eat. Eat. lift at night.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
the first 4 1/2 hours of the day are religiously spent listening to stern, watching tv and simultaneously blogging. almost nothing will get me to veer from this on mon-thurs.
i never have the energy to lift at night.
i like getting it all done in one feel swoop – usually on mix in the swim twice a week. it’s a new thing. and im finding out it’s much more difficult than i thought.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Woops, sorry. A good run, like 2-3 miles, spaced out between a run and jog/walk, get the metabolism up in the morning. eat, eat, eat (heathly) every 2-3 hours. lift in the afternoon.
No offense, but any trainer will tell you blowing you load in one training session a day kills all energy and percieved results.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Oden will be on the floor after this TV timeout
November 12th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
I usually go 15 min – abs and stretching, 1 hour weights, 1/2 hour treadmill, then I tore my meniscus a few weeks ago so I have to feel like a pansy on the elliptical
November 12th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
CR – i do like eating, so maybe i should try that. my old roommate in NYC was actually a trainer at Gold’s and taught me some tips – dude’s a beast. he walked-on at Penn State but i dont think ever played.
yeah, it’d be nice to do the run in the AM and lift later … but that’s reserved (at least i think) for actors and athletes, or anyone who has all sorts of time on their hands and tons of money.
i got a business to run, a wife, reading, goals in life … and working out can’t consume more than 90 minutes of my day
November 12th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
duffy – how the heck did you do that? my wife hits the elliptical and sometimes i go on it next to her. i also feel like a pansy.
2 trips down the floor and nothing for Oden. nary a touch
November 12th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
and there’s oden. monster block (volleyball style) on a chris quinn shot
November 12th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
I wish I had the energy to run in the morning instead of after class.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
That’s exactly how I feel. I have way too much shit to do.
Chris Quinn is terrible why is he on the floor?
November 12th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
offensive rebound and huge dunk for oden!
alright, big guy!
November 12th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
that dunk will probably lead ballin tomorrow. unless he has like 7 more and somebody puts together a compilation.
duffy, am i really out of the mix for now knowing half these potential starters against guatemala?
November 12th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
fetch – 20-30 minute run at 5:00 am, lift around 3 or 4 for no longer than an hour. trust me, a run in the morning will make you way more prepared to tackle the day.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:37 pm

November 12th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
rick I can’t get out of bed at 5. No chance. My 6 AM high school bball practices were the last time I did that, and probably the last time I ever will.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
i cant believe they have oden on beasley. what a dense move. beasley hits a three in his grill
November 12th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
rudy fernandez is awesome to watch.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
oden got his shot blocked by beasley. geez. that offensive skill is way low.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
thats funny cool rick. not many people have the time in the day to block out two spots for working out
November 12th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Rick is right about doing cardio in the morning. You burn more calories on an empty stomach and you kickstart your metabolism for the rest of the day. As for weights, my advice is to experiment with lifting at different times – if your schedule allows for that. You’ll eventually figure out when your energy level spikes, and that’s your optimum lifting time. I feel for whoever said they can’t do the treadmill due to knee problems. I blew out my freshman year of college running track, then ended up with a tibial stress fracture in my other leg after trying to come back too soon. Long story short, I can no longer do the treadmill.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
fetch – 20-30 minute run at 5:00 am, lift around 3 or 4 for no longer than an hour. trust me, a run in the morning will make you way more prepared to tackle the day.
Fuck that just jerk off in the morning. I might end up being 30 minutes late for work but when I get there Im ready to blog.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
shit
wade just did the jordan move! switching hands in mid-air!!! incredible
November 12th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
and now wade is hurt
November 12th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I can’t cause of my knee either bsanders, hell I can barely run at all cause my feet are so terrible.
Fuck Wade is hurt. that’s not great.
November 12th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
eh, he’s fine
just ran into a wall, and by wall i mean przybilia
November 12th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Fetch sounds like youre borderline retarded
November 12th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
thanks tampa.
I wish I had all this time to workout twice and run in the morning, well I could probably run in the morning, but that would mean I’d get like 6 hours of sleep, which I don’t want.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Fetch as my dad would say “you got more excuses than a nigga goin to jail.” Just start eating Healthy and only drink water.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Fetch
- Yeah, getting up early is shitty. I used to work out at the Gold’s in Paramus in Jersey a couple years ago and there used to be tons of HUGE dudes waiting outside the place at 6 am for it to open. But fuck Gold’s and their contracts bullshit. Gold’s Gym can eat my ass.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Bynum/Fisher monster halves, LAL crushing NO
November 12th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Dwight 18-10, 7 blocks…FIRST HALF
November 12th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
fetch, quinn is in there b/c he’s hitting the 3 at over 60 percent, and has continued it tonight lol.. might as well play him while he’s got the hot hand
November 12th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
cortes, how can you look at quinn and not laugh about the shaq comments last year?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
lol i can laugh at that alien looking dude and still know that he deserves mins shooting 64 % from 3
November 12th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
wats the deal with livingston? still hurt?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
he’s healthy, but out of the rotation, behind chalmers, quinn, wade, and banks
November 12th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
cortes, he can’t fucking defend anybody though.
November 12th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
erik spolestra is on crack, right? how can u not play him?
November 12th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
he’s no worse than jason williams was.. when his shooting % goes down (and it will, soon) so will his minutes
November 12th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
alo, they gave him 18 mins in the 2nd game and he looked FAR from average.. the problem is, whose minutes do you take away to experiment with him for? cook, quinn, and chalmers are all playing well
November 12th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
valid points. but if u go out and get the guy in the offseason, you must have seen something in him right? plus, put the ball in livingston’s hands, and you free up wade and allow him to concentrate on scoring.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Aw shit, Salukis playing Duke in the Garden next week. Guess we’ll find out how young SIU really is.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Oden is so old he was taught post moves by George Mikan and now he runs like him.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
D-Ho just went triple double…28, 18 and 10 blocks with 6 minutes left
November 12th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
30-19-10 blocks. Irish will be up bright and early for Ballin…
November 12th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
TBL Look what shaq just put up on his twitter page.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
Pierce just canned one with .5 seconds to give ATL their first loss.
Atlanta = Fraud City, Georgia
November 12th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
to be fair the Thundercats(better name, liked the cartoon) front line doesn’t consist of one decent college player, let alone NBA talent…
November 12th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Tampa, you my friend, are an asshole
November 12th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Nice work Tampa, nice work
November 12th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
CP3 having and off game…
28 points, 12 assists 7 boards and only 2 steals. Terrible.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
How much was piled up on the Lakers second string when they were down 20?
November 12th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
That was a sick play by Fernandez….stone cold.
November 12th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Too bad Hollinger’s stats solely rely on stats regardless of gar-bajjj time! Good thing scouts ignore his numbers..just like I do!
November 12th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
That brings up a pretty large selection bias, cursed.
Someone might even say that Kobe’s 5-15 isn’t relevant, because the 10 misses came in garbage time when it didn’t matter!
November 12th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
By the way, Kobe is averaging only 18 shots a game so far this year (granted, less minutes and blowouts contribute to that), but will people let go the ball-hog stuff. I think he passes too much now. This isn’t the Kobe that scored 40+ in 9 straight games (not b/c he can’t, anyone watching the playoffs last year know he can still score at will).
So if you hate Kobe, why do you hate him now? I can understand the immature stuff with Shaq, in which both were complicit.. but why now?
November 12th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
It’s jealousy
November 12th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
Fetch, I don’t know if you saw my post from the gheysketball thread (college hoops), but K-State won 21 games and picked off a game in the tourney.
NBA talent = wins.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Nick P, see the 2006-7 OSU Buckeyes (everyone knows Thad Matta can’t coach a lick, his x’s and o’s are worse than a blind man trying to write the word “ox” 10 times. Ok, that’s a gigantic bomb.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Of course, cursed. That’s a perfect example.
Matta is an awful coach.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Nick, they were a fucking 11 seed. With 2 first round picks.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Nah, they just had one.
November 12th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
was Walker a 2nd rounder? Shows how much I pay attention.
November 13th, 2008 at 8:44 am
What happened to all the Hype Machine talk? that sure didnt last long huh? Let me know when you want to root for Dwight Howard
