Doug Gottlieb’s star has risen at ESPN this year – remember that massive story on him in USA Today? – so when he votes in the WWL’s college basketball power rankings, people pay attention. And thus when he completely omitted Pitt from his Top 25, Panthers’ fans grew irate and wondered what he had against he school. (Even the silliest experiment ESPN offers, Bracketology, has Pitt as a 3-seed in the NCAA tournament.)

* It’s a hot-dog, agenda-based, biased-ridden ranking. He certainly follows College Basketball closely enough that he didn’t forget us. And he knows as well as anyone the kind of players Blair, Young and Fields are. And he didn’t rank us more lowly because of some flaws. If that was the case, he’d have us somewhere around #19. But leaving us out altogether is either his attempt to be cute, or that he has some sort of issue with us. I think to some extent that it’s the latter, within the fact that we haven’t made it past the Sweet 16. But more and more and more, I have a hard time giving ANY credibility to the guy. After all, he’s the same guy who said we weren’t in the tournament when every single other person on the planet said we were in.”

“He hates the entire BE since he was booted out of noter doom…. He ranks Pitt (almost always) lower than everybody else in the power rankings every season. This is nothing new. Well, maybe he does hate Pitt the most of the BE teams. He is an idiot. He ended up at Ok. St., remember? ”

The team that won the Big East tournment, that still has its three best players in Young, Fields, and Blair, and quite possibly the best front-court in the Big East if not the country, not in the top 25. How can you even try to argue that teams like WVU, Wake Forest, VCU? really, Syracuse Marquette???? Baylor??? ahead of Pitt. Just because they loss their “3 point threat” in Ramon, who wasn’t consisent for the past two previous seasons, and there not a top 25 team. Not after they won the big east tournment last year. Just completely dumb.”
