College Football Top 10
College Football November 14th. 2008, 5:00pm
Two of last week’s top teams lost, but only one of them fell out of the Top 10. Predictions again – last week we foolishly picked against Texas Tech and Iowa. No this week. The Kansas cheerleaders just for the funk of it.
1. Alabama 10-0. Beats Miss. State 31-10.
2. Texas Tech 10-0. Bye.
3. Florida 8-1. Beats South Carolina 34-13.
4. Texas 9-1. Beats Kansas 38-24.
5. Oklahoma 9-1. Bye.
6. USC 8-1. Beats Stanford 41-20.
7. Utah 10-0. Beats San Diego State 45-7.
8. Boise State 9-0. Beats Idaho 49-13.
9. Ball State 10-0. Let’s give these kids credit before the lose next weekend at Central Michigan.
10. Penn State 9-1. Shat the bed in Iowa, and we don’t talk about people who poop their pants.

I can see the headline too; Central Michigan Slaps BallS(tate)
November 14th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
USC > OU, UT, and UF
The difference between those four schools? USC has the best defense in the country and the other three aren’t all that interested or have the talent ot match up.
PSU > BaSt, BoSt, and Utah…ridiculous to think otherwise.
Penn State beat down Oregon State and Utah eaked out a victory. Not even close. And Utah is the best of the non-BCS unbeatens.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
Who has USC beaten? They are frauds, like the rest of the Pac-10. Be grateful they were gifted a spot in the top 10 based on rep alone.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Didn’t Oregon St go east to play Penn St? Because if you argue that Cal’s loss to maryland shouldn’t count, then you really can’t put much stock into Penn St’s asskicking of Oregon St.
Besides, the Pac 10 should have to forfeit their automatic BCS bid to the Mountain West this year anyways.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
USC>sh*t
They have the best defense because they play teams that don’t have offenses. Maybe the Pac 10 can hire Charlie Weiss to run a clinic on offense.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
WOOOO TRANSITIVE PROPERTY WOOOOOO!
November 14th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
I never argued Cal’s loss to Maryland shouldn’t count because they went east. They scheduled the game, it counts. Granted OSU traveling all the way to State College is harder than traveling to SLC but those were two completely different games. Penn State is in another class than Utah.
And, as for the assertion that USC is a fraud, there is this. Don’t tell me USC isn’t one of the best teams in the country, that is just ridiculous. You can say they didn’t have the same schedule as those other one loss teams and they may not be as deserving but they are clearly one of the best teams in the country, anybody who watches college football can see that.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Fixed it.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
teams that lost?
November 14th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Also, Stanford is going to score 20 on USC? Really? Maybe 7. Maybe.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
@molemaninthemorning – Who has Utah beat? I guess they did beat Mich by 2…
@thecassino – I would be surprised to see Stanford score a touchdown on USC. I say USC 48-3.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
class of talent, sure. but penn state is irrelevant now because they couldnt close the deal on a weak schedule. i dont think you will get many people saying penn state is one of the best teams in the country; but i agree of that assessment for usc. however usc have a pretty weak conference too and fucked up, so tough titties for them.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Me too.
People say this a lot. But for some reason, nobody outside of the Pac-10 ever beats USC. Hmmm.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
re fixed…last I checked, the Mountain West didn’t destroy the Big East.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
so having one really good team makes the whole conference strong? k
i seem to remember usc losing to a team from some southern state. they had orange unis. must be making this up though.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
And last I checked, the Big East didn’t have a team in the top-20.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I guess I agree, mostly. It is tough shit for USC because their schedule is mostly fairly weak. I guess it just disgusts me that somebody would think a team that lost to Ole Miss AT HOME is the third best team in the country. I guess I should have clarified though, I am not saying USC deserves to be the third ranked team but I do think that they are the third best team at this point in the season.
And as far as Penn State v BallSt/BoiseSt/Utah, I pay little attention to non-BCS conferences usually. I think if any of those schools were in even the weakest BCS conferences (ie, Big East) they would have at least one loss.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I was just gonna ask where that dude was who thinks football is only played in the Pac 10. And then he showed up, so nevermind.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
i can get behind that statement 100%
November 14th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Fact: Utah has tougher in conference games than USC does this year.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
It’s enough to get a Big Ten team to the National Championship game for some reason.
Yeah. 1 loss out of conference in the last 6 (six!) years. Kind of proved my point. And it wasn’t so much a “team” that beat them as it was Vince Young.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Case in point: Boise State lost to Washington last year.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
I do believe that the Pac 10 is better than people say but obviously a step down from the big boys this year (SEC, Big 12). I think The Pac 10 is better than both the Big East and the ACC, about equal with the Big 10, and far below the SEC and Big 12. USC, OSU, Cal, Oregon, and Arizona are all good teams (USC is great). The problem is that UW and WSU are HORRIBLE…like, historically so.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
please bring the girl in the ou shirt back. the kansas cheerleaders don’t look good. and i am about as picky as tampa bo.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
True, but at least those Big 10 teams had one less loss than any other team in the nation. It’s funny how USC is so awesome in early season non conference matchups, but when it gets down to late season must win games, they lose to an inferior opponent.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
You mean the guy who realizes football actually exists outside the SEC? Here I am!
November 14th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
I don’t know what games you are referring to here…
November 14th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Yeah. UNLV, Air Force, Wyoming, Colorado State, New Mexico and San Diego State is quite the gauntlet. TCU and BYU are good teams, so 2 out of 8 isn’t bad right? Right?
If you think that the Mountain West has the depth of the Pac-10 then you sir, are insane.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
He’s referring to the ONE time it happened when they lost to UCLA.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
i think people remember the stanford loss as happening late in the season. wasnt it like the first week of october?
November 14th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
You forget that Wyoming just beat Tennessee.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Mountain West: 6-1 against the Pac 10 this year. Something tells me I’m far from insane. Also, TCU and BYU are 2 better in conference opponents than USC will see in the PAC-10.
Face it, the PAC 10 sucks ass this year.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
I guess if you want to call the first week of October “late season” then I guess that makes two?
November 14th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Correct sir. October 6th. Their fifth game of the season.
I stand corrected.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Knew this one was coming…OSU and Cal are both better than BYU and TCU. Oregon might be also.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
the bottom line as i see it
- usc is a very very good team
- usc needed to run the table because as the top team in a conference that is down they will be going up against top teams from conferences that are much better
- usc didnt run the table
- because they have no title game, not their fault, they dont get an extra ‘good’ opponent
- they have no place in the title discussion until both the big twelve and sec have a one loss champion, and still then probably dont
- being talented means dick when it comes to deserving to play for the championship
November 14th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I’ll take a BCS conference with 1 great team and 5 good teams over a Non-BCS conference with 3 good teams and 1 ok team any day.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
moleman…agreed with almost everything but
I think that being a GREAT team should count. And everybody should realize that USC is a great team.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
should count towards what though? when would ‘talent’ ever be a tiebreaker for deciding who gets into a game?
we always hear about how great these usc teams are and its undeniable that the past few seasons they have not lived up to the hype. and yes, losing one game means not living up to the hype when they get the slobjob they get from the media every summer.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
5 good teams? I count 2 at most. Again, say what you will, but neither one of you has even acknowledged that the Mountain West went 6-1 against the Pac 10. It’s like you’re hoping it’ll get swept underneath the rug if you keep ignoring it.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Again, I never said they should get anything because of their “talent” I said they deserve some credit for being a great team. I think pollsters should vote in order of how good they think the teams are. If I was going off of that, I would have USC ranked 3rd. I am not saying I would throw a fit if they don’t make it into the Natl Champ game, I am just saying IMO they, right now, should be ranked third in the country based off my aforementioned criteria. And I fully recognize that not everybody believes in that criteria, which is fine.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
The MWC record against USC, OSU, Cal, Oregon, and Arizona this year is 2-1. I will give you that. Don’t think that proves much though.
November 14th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
So are you saying the 4th best scoring defense in the country (UF) has no talent or isn’t interested in playing defense?
And there’s also the fact that UF is 6th in scoring while USC is 15th.
November 14th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Wow…just reviewing UF’s schedule and that is less impressive than USC’s (to this point). I guess I was going off the fact that they gave up 30 points to Ole Miss and 21 to a horrible LSU offense.
How about USC is first in the country in scoring defense, and it’s not even close. Meanwhile, they have been going up against Cal, OSU, Oregon, and Arizona, who are all ranked in the top 27 in scoring offense while Florida has been going up against…Georgia (28)?
November 15th, 2008 at 11:30 am
UF SOS: 10th; USC SOS: 49th; Without some sort of handicap any other statistical comparisons are hardly apples to apples.
