Sponge
- Yeah, I watched it on Megavideo earlier in the week. It was just okay. Felt really short and the story was very blah.

Brock will never be as famous as he was with the WWE…

“Polamalu Island.” Jesus H. Fucking Christ. Why do television executives insist on ruining sports for everyone just to get casual fans to watch their games?
I said it Thursday night and I’ll say it again. The NFL Network is ESPN on crack.

I highly doubt that. The UFC right now is much bigger than the WWE/WWF has ever been.
“In 2007, UFC officially took over as the “king of pay-per-view”. Of the 15 biggest PPV events of 2007 in North America, UFC had eight, four for boxing and three for World Wrestling Entertainment.”

Man, I hope Duke pulls this out, I don’t want SIU to have to face them coming off a loss.
November 16th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
8-7… typical Steelers game..
November 16th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I now know how the rest of you felt when JJ went into unconscious mode. It sucks, big time.
November 16th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Duke hangs on. Hope they get their first L this Thursday.

im sure the ppv numbers are higher because ppv is more prevalent now, but the wwf at the prime of hogan was more popular than any of this mma stuff. he was a household name and a national phenomenon

Last night UFC match drew 650,000 buys, third highest in UFC history..
Wrestlemania 2004 with Brock Lesnar drew 1.68 million.
WWE may be on a decline now, but UFC doesn’t compare to what is once was…

I thought I heard Dana White tell Jim Rome this week ke was hoping for 1.25 million buys. Guess there was a 50% off sale this weekend
btw: anyone who hasn’t seen the fight, here’s a decent link…

Actually, I wouldnt really say its a fair comparison, because one is a real sport and the other is scripted soap opera for guys.
November 16th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
That Kimbo Slice fight wasn’t scripted… wait…
November 16th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
i wouldnt be throwing out ’scripted soap opera’ when there have been accusations of scripting and really gay drama filled reality shows for mma
November 16th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
after all whats the old saying? people in glass houses shouldnt … roll around on the ground in underwear with other dudes inside of a cage, because the neighbors can see through your fucking glass walls and are going to complain to the block association

The Florida State Boxing Commission cleared them of any wrong doing.

And I’m talking about the UFC. Not some now defunct, crappy, second tier organization. Besides, real fighters being paid to take a dive, or even fight a certain way to ensure a more exciting fight is not even close to being the same as staged action and scripted finishes.
True MMA fans dispise The Ultimate Fighter, and comparing a stupid ass reality show to the ridiculous story lines of the WWE shows you know nothing about either.
Gay jokes. Awesome. You stay classy, buddy.
November 16th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
you are saying real fighters taking a dive is worse right?
November 16th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
sorry if i dont have my finger on the pulse of how ‘true mma’ fans view things. you mma guys are so fucking protective of your sport.
its a niche sport, just like boxing. its never going to be more than a niche sport because of its violent and unpredictable nature. it can thrive as a niche sport though and is certainly doing better than the current mockery that is heavyweight boxing. but i am so fucking sick of hearing how its the next big thing, i now know how people who hate soccer must have felt when it was ‘the next big thing’
and youre right it isnt comparable to the wwf (i refuse to call it the wwe, stupid pandas) because that really is just more of entertainment than sport. granted something with scripted storylines and predetermined outcomes that have a set time frame and actually lends itself to television will always always always be more marketable than something that has hours of buildup and can be done in ten seconds (boxing or mma)
November 16th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
and come on, you cant deny theres something really homoerotic about any sport where guys pin each other down wearing next to nothing. at least theres actually blows in mma as opposed to real wrestling which, while i know its one of the most physically demanding sports, looks like two dudes trying to rape each other
