If the Steelers-Chargers Finish Had Happened in the NBA, It’d Be a Massive Controversy
1-liner, Gambling, NFL November 17th. 2008, 9:30amVegas Owns the NFL: Regarding the insane San Diego-Pittsburgh finish (see the replay here) … Was Tim Donaghy involved? Are we sure the end result didn’t drive this guy to do this? Will there be an investigation into the referees? Why was it reviewed in the first place? Why did the Steelers have 13 penalties, and the Chargers just two? Does anyone else think Fidel Goodell asked NBC not to show the replay last night? (It was briefly discussed.) We were in the 34 percent, thankfully. The 66 percent should have burned Vegas down. Does anyone find it staggering that $100 million was wagered legally on this game?

all i know is that pass interference call that led to san diego’s touchdown was one of the worst calls of the year

SD v Pitt was crazy, involved lots of weird, and probably puts a black eye on the NFL.
However, nothing is crazier than the following:
I never knew in the professional ranks it would end that way. I hate to see what would happen in the Super Bowl and the playoffs.”
He still has no clue about overtimes. How long has he been in the league?

The ref (Scott Green) stepped up after the game and admitted they blew the call on Polamalu’s TD.
Besides the gambling end, was anyone screwed/helped in fantasy by the Steeler’s D not getting that turnover/score?

Nothing to see here.
/Tim Donaghy

The NFL is teflon and their fans don’t give a shit about if the games are fixed or not. This will go away just like the Bernard Berrian snitching scandal.
Baaaaaaa!

Congress is probably gonna waste some money investigating this

KC – when was the last time a playoff game ended in a tie? a 2nd overtime? has that happened?
November 17th, 2008 at 9:45 am
@TBL: Panthers beat Rams in 2OT in 2004
November 17th, 2008 at 9:45 am
A playoff game can’t end in a tie, TBL.
November 17th, 2008 at 9:45 am
.. seriously?
November 17th, 2008 at 9:52 am
TBL = Donovan Mcnabb
November 17th, 2008 at 9:53 am
STL-Carolina a few years back went to a 2nd OT
November 17th, 2008 at 9:55 am
TBL – I’m going to assume you misstated your question.

I think I should get some sort of “Good Guy” award for not committing spousal abuse last night when I am watching this all unfold (pitt was the difference between winning/losing a 4-teamer) and my wife keeps telling me, it’s over, you won…yada, yada. Then when they pull it off, she chuckles and says, “that sucks for you.” My restraint should be the definition of “good guy.”
And yes, I believe it was my own fault for letting her in on the ramifications of the play, but it’s kind of hard to hide it when I am jumping up and down screaming when Pitt got the last second TD.

I
thinkhope TBL meant to ask when a playoff game ended in a tie after regulation…November 17th, 2008 at 10:05 am
@mole
That was an awful call. Ball wasn’t even close.

Talk about much ado about nothing. The REGULAR SEASON game was already won by the team that SHOULD HAVE won. This effects the 7th tiebreaker for the playoffs. The ONLY reason this is getting talked about are gamblers and fantasy nerds who care more about points/players than wins/teams.
Ask the 1999 Music City Miracled Buffalo Bills or the 2005 Super Bowl Screwed Seattle Seahawks if they give a shit about this non-story

considering there was a 64 million dollar swing on that call i dont think its ridiculous to make a big deal out of this. gambling is a huge part of the nfl
November 17th, 2008 at 11:00 am
I know about the money hit. My point is the media and the NFL “supposedly” (insert sarcasm) don’t care about lines. etc. I’m just saying that taking a step back and looking at the situation, it’s a big “Who gives a fuck if they won by 1 or 8?”. that’s all.
November 17th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Let’s say that the Steelers are one of the more favorite teams in the league so gambling is 50% higher on them each week. That still means that over 1.5 billiion dollars is wagered on professional football each week, that is amazing to me.

Clown, what is your boyfriend’s name?

That same crew worked the STL-NE game that had Haslett screaming that there was only one declined penalty against the Pats. Two lopsided penalty counts by one crew in the same season? Hinky, as Sipowicz used to say.
