Illinois Gymnastics Coach Investigated for Hidden Camera in Locker Room
Courts, Legal, Other College Sports November 19th. 2008, 2:00pm
Illinois assistant Men’s Gymnastics coach Jon Valdez resigned amidst allegations of drunk-driving in Wisconsin, which is awful. Unfortunately for Valdez, and those in contact with him, that’s not the only investigation that involves him.
On Sept. 25, a student found a video camera hidden inside a locker, aimed outward through a small opening where it “would be able to capture images of people changing their clothes.€
Authorities did not confirm which locker room contained the camera. Though they did say the camera was not transmitting images to a computer or over the Internet. They did not comment on what was stored on the camera.
Valdez had coached at Illinois since 2000. He served as the personal coach for U.S. Olympian and colleague Justin Spring at the Beijing Olympics.
