Desmond Howard: “This isn’t Michigan. It’s Michigan Tech.”
1-liner, College Football November 19th. 2008, 11:30amDesmond Howard on Rich Rod: “Michigan fans have never been in this situation, so the patience thing is a big question. There’s no way in the world he can have a season next year like he had this year and he still be in Ann Arbor. That would not happen.” Really, Desmond? They’re going to can the guy with a six-year contract after two bad years? Get real. The cupboard was bare, and it’s going to take at least three years to turn this mess around. (Detroit News)

if recruits keep de-committing and players transferring, a move would not be that surprising.
November 19th, 2008 at 11:36 am
The comments for this one should be interesting.
November 19th, 2008 at 11:38 am
there’s really no ill-will toward Michigan with this. The quotes are interesting.

The cupboard was NOT bare, I think that is the biggest problem. Especially on defense. They should have been much better than 3-9.
I doubt they would fire him after a second 3-9 season, but it wouldn’t surprise me either. My guess is that year 3 is the make-or-break year for him.

did maggs write this? btw i’m typing this with my left after rotator cuff surgery yesterday. That’s the toughness and dedication(and boredom from sleeping 18 of the last 24 hours) that I give this sit on a nearly daily basis… I deserve a raise.
November 19th, 2008 at 11:39 am
It’s 11:37 and Michigan Still Sucks…
And UM has never had a season this bad. The cupboard wasn’t bare enough for 8…9 losses. Another year half this bad and Rodriguez will be counting his buyout bucks.

Good job, Mak. Pat yourself on the back…oh wait…
November 19th, 2008 at 11:39 am
sit=site or shit whichever fits…

How dare he mock the Huskies!! Asshole.
November 19th, 2008 at 11:43 am
the miracle in the meadowlands playcall was the worst in nfl history..
November 19th, 2008 at 11:43 am
seriously? even the talent that was there was fucking awful. the defense was “supposed to be good,” but why? they sucked last year too.
November 19th, 2008 at 11:44 am
Why not – we’re talking about canning Weis and he has a lot more left on his contract
November 19th, 2008 at 11:46 am
There is still talent there, especially on defense, not 10 win talent, but 4 star kids. Good enough to win 4 or 5 games with that schedule.
It is eerily similar to Nebraska and Callahan. Ignoring traditions, telling fans to get a life, not smart.

Did you guys know that sweatervests are considered “hip”?
November 19th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Didn’t Michigan get a commitment from the #1 QB prospect in the country?
November 19th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Did you know you’re not allowed into Williamsburg, Brooklyn without a scarf and a beard?
November 19th, 2008 at 11:49 am
yep…then got a de-commitment.
November 19th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Was home for lunch yesterday and turned on the Family Feud College Tournament. The jackasses from tOSU all had sweater vests on. I immediately began to root for Harvard.

I don’t think his comments are that far fetched. If Michigan doesn’t make it to .500 next year he could very well be done. Michigan doesn’t care about the money. Like most big programs they can easily absorb a large payout and resigning a different coach.

An ESPN article from LZ Granderson about Rich Rod also…
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=granderson/081119
A couple tidbits:
I don’t care what the context is, “Get a life” is really not the way to endear yourself to the people who essentially make it possible for you to earn more than $2 million a year. Especially since all you’ve brought to the university thus far is bad press from a messy legal battle with your former employer and one of the worst records in school history.
Rodriguez’s sin isn’t thinking that some of the Michigan fans need to get a life. His sin was being stupid enough to say it. That’s the equivalent of doing the worst job performance anyone in the history of the company has ever done, and then flipping the boss the finger for being overly critical. Especially when you and everyone else in the world knows you were not the company’s first or even second choice for the job. And by the way, where was Rodriguez’s “greater perspective” when Grant Town, W.V., put up two signs that read “Home of WVU Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez”?

Still smiling that he turned down Alabama.

I can’t stop grinning. this is great stuff.
@sparty: you got that right
/alumni of another Big Ten school not named Michigan
November 19th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
i bet most lsu fans wish michigan sealed the deal with les miles. they might still get him.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Is it true that Rich Rod has no contract like Gilespie does at UK? I’ve heard this from different places, but have no idea if it is true or not.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I have a Rich Rod post percolating, that I should probably save until after Mich gets trashed by Ohio State next week.
But that cupboard WAS NOT BARE. 3/4 of that team beat Florida last year. That defense shut down Tebow completely. He made no effort to keep Ryan Mallett who was one of the top quarterback recruits in the country. He made no effort to keep Manningham or Arrington.
Even with their departures, they have a ton of running backs and a good defense. Had they just played three tight ends and held onto the ball, they would have won more than three games.
And, I am sure everyone in Michigan is well aware of how bad the economy is, at least for everyone except the state’s highest paid employee Rich Rodriguez. Why don’t you shut up until you win something you pompous fuck.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
And, yes, all Michigan fans should “get a life.” Stop paying absurd amounts of money for 18 inches of ass space on a metal bench in November. Stop watching Michigan on TV or buying more merchandise than nearly any school in the country. Stop making donations or setting up scholarship funds that will pay for half of his fancy recruits to go to school.
Did my mom get a discount on her tickets because the cupboard was bare?
November 19th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
How did I miss this. I hate Rich Rod hes a fucking retard who tried to flip the issue.
November 19th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
When asked if he (Rich Rod) reads the awful things written about him on the internet, he resonded;
But you wouldn’t get all of that if you pay attention to what Jim Rome was talking about.
This site is no longer humorous and based on the above comments by one of its writers (tyduffy) is out to spread misinformation about the program which I hold dear and always will no matter if we go 3-9 or 12-0. You should be ashamed of yourselves for pumping this garbage out and adding to the downfall of credibility on the internet. I have been a long time reader and poster on this site. After reading this, I will not be back and I hope others will know that you are disingenuous and poor at what you do and perhaps follow my lead.
