SEC Media Members Tried Really Hard to Invite Their Spouses to the SEC Championship
College Football, Media Gossip/Musings November 20th. 2008, 10:45am
Well, this is embarrassing. So many media members have been inundating the SEC with requests for tickets for their wives to the league Championship game between Alabama and Florida Dec. 6 in Atlanta, that it prompted the following email, forwarded to us by a snickering tipster:
“The SEC Media Relations Office does not have any more media spouse tickets remaining for the 2008 SEC Football Championship Game.
The SEC Media Relations Office has already communicated to everyone who has been approved for media spouse tickets. If you have not already received an email or phone call from our office about your ticket purchase, this means that your order will not be filled.
If you have already sent us a check, please let us know whether you want us to return the check or if you want us to tear it up for you.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
SEC Media Relations Office.
Why can’t the media members go on Stubhub like the rest of the fans and overpay for a ticket? We hope to do a follow-up on this story next week with the names of all the media members who attempted to procure tickets for their wives.

“Wives.” Remember, “wives” is how you should write it.

I wonder how many wanted to bring someone other than their spouse?
November 20th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Why would they even want to bring their wives to the game. They should be trying to nail some co-eds.

Just let the hags sit outside, tailgate and listen to the sounds of the Tide rollin’ them Gators.

November 20th, 2008 at 11:06 am
so does this mean a drunken rick reilly can’t bring his squeeze to the press box (again)?
November 20th, 2008 at 11:06 am
extra tickets Jimmy?
November 20th, 2008 at 11:07 am
NO WAY!!!
November 20th, 2008 at 11:07 am
I’m sorry…I must be missing something here. I really like my wife and she’s interested in sports like me.
if my job was to travel to sporting events to report on them and there was a slight option to get a free ticket out of it for my wife to go along too, I’d jump that shit immediately.
what’s so embarassing about that?
November 20th, 2008 at 11:08 am
pretty sure i do. i believe i have four tickets total. if fsu doesn’t make it, i likely will have extra. the acc/tampa people are on their hands and knees for fsu to somehow get there because they know it will sell out. miami will bring some people but outside of that, the stadium will likely be half-empty.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:08 am
good game on ESPN tonight @ 7:30
I disagree. GT has zero quality wins this year (FSU gave them the one win). Miami should roll easily tonight.
Miami vs Maryland in the title game.

With the cutbacks in print journalism, you’d think there’d be plenty of extra tickets for Stu Scott’s ladies and Van Pelt’s Dewey Beyaches.

@ill – i hope you are right. G Tech has won the past 3
November 20th, 2008 at 11:26 am
If the U goes the the Championship I’m going.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:30 am
miami (i believe) is 12-1 on thursday nights.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:37 am
We are hoping to go the game as well..
November 20th, 2008 at 11:39 am
jimmy, but the game is at Ga Tech. Never bet against the home team on Thursday night. At least in college games.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:42 am
GG-It shouldn’t be hard to get tickets.
November 20th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Yea, we found some for around 100.00. Funny, cause there are signs all over downtown saying “tickets as low as $25.00″ I thought the home teams have been losing on thursday nights..
November 20th, 2008 at 11:59 am
totally agree, especially if the visting team played the previous saturday.
November 20th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
very well done
November 20th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
so who’s included here? TV, website, newspaper and magazine writers? they all should get to bring their wives?
November 20th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
TBL – I never said they should get to bring their wives. but I did say that, hell yes, I’d try to bring mine. if tickets were ever made available to spouses, then why is it embarassing. after re-reading the email you posted up above, I’ve noticed two implications/facts:
1) a finite number of tickets were allotted for media spouses, and
b) some people actually paid for those tickets.
if I was attending the SEC CG for work and had an inside track to get a ticket for free or face-value to the game for my wife to also attend, I’d be on that like a duck on a junebug.

miz, you’re such an SEC apologist.
November 20th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
clown, you’re such a…aaaah, hell with it; I love you, clown.
