Oh. Right. The Steelers Won
1-liner, NFL November 21st. 2008, 9:30amWillie Parker: How injury-prone is this guy? Just who are we dealing with here, Tracy McGrady? Grant Hill? Terrell Davis? Do we need to carve out some space in the Gusiness Book of World Records for football fragility? Parker went down in the third quarter with another knee injury during Pittsburgh’s 27-10 victory over Cincinnati last night. Troy Polamalu picked off a pass in the final minute near the end zone to preserve the cover. Chad Johnson mouthed off to Marvin Lewis in a team meeting and didn’t play, further crippling his quest for a 1,000 yard receiving season.

TBL — Dude carried the ball over 900 times in ‘05/’06/’07, including well over 300 in each of the last two.
This was bound to happen. At this point people should be surprised if he is ever a significant factor for any team again.

Sweet. I get to stick Moore back in the line-up. He tore it up during Parker’s last injury.

i had parker in fantasy last year when he didn’t get hurt (i don’t think ) and he ran for a ton of yards but few td’s. i had a feeling then that they were running him too much.

Willie just isn’t a mudder, Steelers need a mudder, preferably a big one.

But his mother was a mudder

coop247 — That’s a good point. It’s not like he’s a huge guy, either.
Strange, but he was actually fortunate to be undrafted rather being a late-rounder. If he had some pedigree coming out of college he might still under some crappy rookie contract.
Since he was only working on a one-year deal, the Steelers had to make him an long-term offer after his breakout year, and he got some decent money.
He might have trouble getting good money now.

Wow those first few sentences were a bit rough. The last three years, Parker missed a total of 2 games and put up 1,200+ yards in each season. I wouldn’t call him injury-prone due to a shoulder injury this year and the coach keeping him off the snowy field in a surefire win over a shitty team, so he can have added rest tacked on to the 9 days until the next game to rest a strained knee. And why not play the hot hand in Moore?
T-Mac? Grant Hill? Yeesh.

If he is injury prone, then is Greg Oden permanently injured? Nice analysis.

I don’t need to go to hell, I’m a Bengals fan

Seriously TBL, did Willie Parker kick your dog. you’ve been pounding this for weeks. Injuries tend to beget injuries, so when you get banged up early, you never really recover until the offseason. Losing a half step means taking hits you didn’t take before, so it starts to spiral. and he was a workhorse for the last 3 season.

The average life of a running back is, what, 3 years? WAG.
Why is this a surprise? No need to constantly rip the guy for shit outside his control.

I traded David Garrard for Willie Parker earlier in the year and then he missed the next 4 or 5 weeks. Then it was announced he was going to start like 3 weeks ago, but at the last minute he was removed, but not before I was able to get him out of my starting lineup in a week where I ended up losing by 6. So that was it; I couldn’t take it anymore so I just dropped him completely. Then he came back the next week and rushed for over 100 yards. My unhealthy hatred for Willie Parker is warranted.

I will pile on about the piling on. Comparing Parker, who played in 46 of 48 games for three years and averaged 4.4 YPC, with three injury prone (for years, not weeks) guys is crazy.
My guess is either he did in fact kick your dog, hit on your sister, or ruin your fantasy team. All of which are of equal value.

John Awesome - Did you have him in fantasy last year when he got injured late in the season? Do you have him in fantasy this year?
Is sarcastic hyperbole no longer permitted on blogs? I hope you guys loosen your ties for later today …

my dog is racist so she’d probably try to bite him first.
November 21st, 2008 at 11:26 am
No it’s not. Especially not when it refers to Willie Parker, who is the greatest running back in the history of running backs.
/sarcastic hyperbole

TBL, I think a reference to him killing your fantasy team would clue people in on your intent for sarcasm and not just crazy anger.
