Nope, No Pressure on Aaron Rodgers Tonight
NFL November 24th. 2008, 5:30pm
The guy he took over for in Cheeseland has won five in a row, knocked off the unbeaten Titans, and has the Jets in first place in the competitive AFC East. Living up to a legend is never easy; when said legend is still playing and killin’ it, you’ve got no chance. (And when his wife – a local celebrity herself – is showing up on Regis and getting cheers from the audience, well, you’ve really got no chance.)
With a win tonight at the Superdome, Rodgers and the Packers can keep pace with Minnesota and Chicago in the decidedly mediocre NFC North. A loss? Well there won’t be any talk about getting rid of Rodgers – he’s performed well in his first year as a starter; the running game has at times vanished; the defense has been spotty, too – but plenty of mourning the loss of Favre.
A loss by the Saints would put them three games back in the hunt for a Wild Card spot with five to play. Those would be nearly insurmountable odds, especially with their most dynanic player, Reggie Bush still hurt. Our pick is the Packers, but that’s more because the Saints are so bad.
What’s the over/under on Favre mentions tonight? We can go for an overall total and then tally the count just by Kornheiser. What if we set them at 10 and seven (and that includes the show’s opening, too).

Favre.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Did you guys know that Favre used to play for the Packers? It’s true. He’s on a different team now though. Weird, right?
November 24th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
put me down for a Benjamin on the over.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
does that count references to favre in which he is not actually named (ie, “the guy whose name we won’t say”, “number 4″, “the legend”, “the great one”, “the guy before aaron rogers”, “the guy with the streak”, “the quarterback of the jets”, etc)? because, if so, i’m taking the over. by a lot. heck, i’ll take the over regardless.
Favre.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Don’t know much about the guy, but I really liked him in There’s Something About Mary.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
I really hope that Kornheiser used up all of his Favre/Rodgers material during the first MNF game of the season…I also hope Joanna Krupa shows up naked at my front door tonight
Neither will materialize (and I still say the Packers would be 6-4 at best with Favre still in Green Bay…he doesn’t play defense against the run)
November 24th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Brett Favre and Reggie Bush will be mentioned more than any players on the field tonight.
I think that the Saints also have no chance of winning. This year at least, that means that they will win. Perhaps easily.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
If the Packers don’t turn it over and convert red zone trips into touchdowns instead of field goals they should be alright since they do have the more talented team…the secondary has been pretty solid all season so my hope is that they do just enough to slow Brees down
November 24th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I am really not looking forward to this game. I just don’t like the Saints much this year. I hate our def. coor. and his vanilla plays. I hate Payton for not controlling the clock. You can pass, whoo-hoo. and I hate the fact that 247 players have gotten hurt. I might watch heroes instead with my Saints jersey on.
November 24th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Isn’t it a little disingenuous to call out others for mentioning Favre when you’ve written four posts about him already today?
November 24th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
disin-what? never heard of him.
November 24th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
I’ll be watching Syracuse/Florida. Wake me when its over.
November 24th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
nope, ONLY favre counts.
survey say … wrong. i was writing about favre and the jets. and are there four posts about him? no. the PACKERS are playing the SAINTS tonight.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
That’s some funny shit.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Oden to start tonight
November 24th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
/TBL’d
November 24th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
no gossip girl tonight, which means i can watch all of this syracuse-UF game. Flynn looks terrific early
November 24th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
make that Flynn looks like an All-American, seven mins in.
i’d go Flynn over Collison.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Flynn over Collison? Even on the defensive end?
November 24th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Also, can we see the kid play in a game that means something before we put him in front of a PG that has been to multiple final fours.
November 24th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Dickie V taking a real stab: “Blake Griffin is going to make a serious run at National Player of the Year.” Thanks Dick.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
yes, we’re all well aware of nick calathes. he’s been a 2-year starter on my fantasy team!
November 24th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
TSP – Are you really going to compare the UCLA teams to the Syracuse teams?
it’s easy to be great when you’re surrounded by lottery picks. not to take anything away from collison. he’s just had great casts
November 24th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Good point TBL. Better news for Flynn this year his backcourt mates are a bit stronger with Devendorf and Rautins,
November 24th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I can’t wait to watch Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins dominate in an hour or so.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
The SEC is down this year Florida could be top 3 in that conference.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
fetch – any impact frosh for the Jayhawks this year?
November 24th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
TSP- Travis Releford and the Morris twins. Haven’t seen a game so I don’t know how good they’ll ultimately be.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Calathes is the perfect PG to play against this zone. Hopefully one of these wings can at least shoot a little bit because with the way Calathes reverses the ball/the way he himself can shoot, they will have open shots all night.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
calathes just keeping UF in this one … syracuse should end up winning. better shooters, betting big guy
November 24th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Once these UF players get used to playing with Calathes more they will be better, he is just to advanced for his own team right now. Agreed TBL, this early in the year ‘Cuse prob has to much firepower for them.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Calathes is making passes and these guys arent even ready for em.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
I’m kicking myself now. Could have had a $30 ticket to tonight’s CBE and turned it down. My brother is there and he was questioning my sanity in being entirely too lazy to watch four quality programs play.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
you can still see em tomorrow KC judging by the attendance shouldnt be a hard ticket to get.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
actually just thought of the fact that KU is playing, maybe not as easy a ticket as I thought.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
KC you could have walked up to the damn front row
November 24th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Dude they were selling tix 2-for-1. You’d be kicking yourself for dropping $30 for one ticket.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
KC you could have gotten me Cole Aldrich’s autograph. Seeing as this is his last year in Lawrence.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Tony, that combover is reeeeally reachin’, time to literally let it go buddy.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
I call bullshit. You don’t watch all of any game.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
These Syracuse jerseys are hideous. Super tight tops a la Ohio State and clam digger length shorts that drag on the court. Looks like Florida may have used the same designer too.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
im surprised UF is ranked this high and the Cuse aren’t ranked. of the 5 best players on the court, i’d say SU has 4 of the 5.
Calathes needs real help
November 24th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
You think he’ll be ready for Euroleague by then?
November 24th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
i notice similar jerseys for Michigan State in their first game. I hate those.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Clown- feel free to tell me what slot Aldrich is in. I believe you call it “doce”
November 24th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
packers 7-0 on 1 yard TD run
November 24th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I wonder if that giant “MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL” bar that runs across the bottom bothers me as much as it bothers Mushnick.
At least use the gradient so you can see through it. Lame.
November 24th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Early game. KU fans will get there and the lower level will be full.
2 for 1’s on the third level. I had $30 for the lower.
However, I get your guys’ point. I’m an idiot.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Seeing as this is his last year in Lawrence.
?. Is he going to use all of his allotted fouls for a career? Man, I love me some Cole, but the dude fouls way too much. this game might last till midnight cst. Between him and the Morris twins, UDub’s front line will get plenty of free throw attempts.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
strangely, everytime the Cuse go up 8-10-12 … UF hits a three and strings together a little run. Syracuse for some reason can’t close (or play defense)
November 24th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Leighton Meester was just in an episode of House I watched, playing a jailbait chick. She did it well.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
saints 7-7 on lonnnnnng lance moore catch and run.
/might miss heroes
November 24th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
vicodin makes you sleepy and constipated. stuff u learn after shoulder surgery. oh, and with beer, it makes you extremely hot…
November 24th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Fetch, Cole will be a bigger bust than Chenowith or Ostertag. You know it.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
TBL -
If you end up watching the KU game, see if Vitale’s head explodes trying to tell the difference between the twins. Just looking exactly the same isn’t enough for these guys. Identical tatoos. One is 23 the other 24 (I think, 1 number a part whatever the numbers are). The best is that they have something like MK Morris and MC Morris on the back of their jerseys. Quite comical.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Clown -
Go die. Do not ever associate Chenowith with any KU player other than Padgett.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Clown, ask Tyler Hansbrough how good Cole Aldrich is.
And Chenowith sucked in college thats a bad example. Aldrich is probably Ben Wallace.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
14-7 saints
November 24th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Makblunt, I learned the same thing a year ago, except with oxycodone and boones farm of all things. Makes a brother feel like he is on fire!
November 24th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Boone’s Farm, is that a midwest thing I saw that for the first time ever this weekend in South Bend….good stuff to chug late night when theres not much around
November 24th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
It’s good shit recc4, just don’t let your boys catch ya drinking it.
Drank it all through high school when we couldn’t get anything else.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
not a lot of defense in that NFL game, huh?
syracuse is missing FTs, which should make hte final 90 seconds fun
November 24th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
boone’s funk. man, that brings me back…
November 24th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Recc4 – Are you still in college?
Just kidding. Boone’s Farmed it as well. Oh, Strawberry Hill. How fould you tasted coming up in the morning.
I was more of a MD 20/20 man (woman) myself.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
the saints had the ball all of 4 and a half minutes that quarter. not good if you want 2 win games…
November 24th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
darn, 2 great chances for UF
flynn makes these two and it’s still a 2-possession game
November 24th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
14 – 14 long drive by GB ended with a pass 2 jennings
November 24th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
They got all kinds of good flavors out now. There good to start off with. Down one of those, then start in on whatever your going with for the night.
We have ‘old school’ night about once a year. Nothing but Boones Farm and 40’s of Malt Liquor. It will fuck you up bad. But never. I say never go to the casino after a night of those two mixed together. People get real pissed if you puke on the craps table. My friend exploded on the table one night. We were all escorted out pretty fastly.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
if i wasnt in college and drank boone’s farm then i’d kick my own ass thats for sure. but if you wanna start the night off good with the boys then its always fun to do the merry go round with a few bottles of mad dog 20/20, then ya dont feel like a huge tool
November 24th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Did Tony just say Seventy-Fuckin-Points!?!?!
November 24th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
TONY JUST SAID 70-FUCKING-POINTS!
November 24th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Boone’s Farm was around in the 70’s. Seems like it cost $1 back then or maybe 3 for $2.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
21-14 saints. lance moore again
November 24th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
sorry crm, sound on loooooow. can’t hear dumb comments by announcers. have favre been mentioned any?
November 24th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
just walked in the door – go touchdowns
November 24th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
doug gottlieb cracks me up. he’s sort of pompous and a dick, but in a funny way
November 24th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
there’s a favre mention for TK … actually the F word was dropped 4 times
November 24th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
sorry for all the capital letters there folks
November 24th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
70 FUCKING POINTS
November 24th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Aldrich with a nice play to open the game – great swat
November 24th, 2008 at 10:01 pm
There’s no way that’s a charge.
Cole with another block.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
another swat by Aldrich
i think it was on Brockman
November 24th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Aldrich is still rough. Only played 6 mpg last year. Good to see he still has the D. Got to make those easy shots, though.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
what the fuck is “Chaminade”?
November 24th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
These refs are dogshit.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
what the fuck is “Chaminade Mole
Ask Ralph Sampson.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Ron Jaworski is my hero for shutting up Kornheiser who was trying for the 1,000th time to make a Favre/Rodgers point
“That is a completely ridiculous statement”
Awesome
November 24th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
i swear to god ive never ever heard of that upset before; and this is having lived in acc country for fourteen years. i guess its because uva wasnt really relevant during that time period
November 24th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Vince Chase would be better announcing MNF.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Every time Jay Bilas mentions Tyler Hansborough’s will and desire, im drinking. I think I will get alcohol poisoning today.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Mole -
Here is a good article on the Greatest College Basketball Upset Ever.
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FCJ/is_2_30/ai_94223307
Granted, Chaminade did have home court advantage.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
Rodgers might not be the leader Favre is yet or maybe he will never be but every week I seem him play he does just fine. He’s on pace for a terrific 1st season as a starter by any standard other than the “brett favre” standard which is like comparing every president to George Washington.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
The last two weeks are the first that Rodgers has played with a full week of practice after hurting his shoulder in Week 4…he was doing pretty decent during that stretch but is now back to being a really good quarterback
Anyone watching tonight’s game can see where the Packers’ real problems lie and they’re all on the other side of the football
November 24th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I think these refs are on loan from the WCHA.
/only about 2 people on here would get that joke
November 24th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Yea looks like a bunch of Randy Schmidts out there
/google’d
November 24th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
Western College Hockey Association.
/google’d as well
November 24th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
There is going to be an on court brawl in this KU/UW game. I’m not sure what the deal is with these two teams. Romar, who I think is a pretty good coach, may have told his team to play extra aggressive to get under the skin of a young team. Every play there is an extra elbow thrown or shove. Good stuff. Reminds me of Bill Lambier’s Combat Basketball minus the rocket launchers.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Jarrett Lee sighting in New Orleans.
November 24th, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Fucking hell Payton. I’m one point down in fantasy and have Brees, he has Crosby. Sweating.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Shooting under 25% at the half and only down 10 (6 if they get the goaltending calls right). Not bad.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
TBL- Flynn is amazing. He can get into the lane against anyone and he was burning Walter Hodge who is a pretty good defender which forced Donovan to play more zone. It’s going to be fun to watch this Syracuse team all year. They won’t stop anyone, but they can flat score.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Jesus Colston almost gave me a heart attack
November 24th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
if these refs call one offensive foul right i’ll be impressed. you can’t draw a charge from directly under the fucking hoop
November 24th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
You can draw a charge anywhere on the court. There’s no arc in college. Only the NBA.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I watched a little of the ND-Ind game tonight. Troy Jackson for ND looks pretty good.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
I would say nice run here for Kansas, but they’re basically playing a high school team so whoop-tee
November 24th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Anyone on the Entourage finale?
November 24th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
High School teams have 2nd team All Americans who lead the Pac-10 in scoring and rebounding? Hmmm.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Hernia – watched it yesterday. Not too bad.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Another missed goaltend
November 24th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
and throw the ball away. yep. When you have to play against the Pac 10 it’s not as hard to be a 2nd team all american. It’s not like he was good enough to go to UNC.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
He was only recuited hard by UNC and duke..but facts are stupid.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
well then he’s an idiot and not good.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
UNC recruited him so did Duke and UCLA. The Pac-10 is as good a basketball conference as there is in the nation. Any other ignorant statements you wanna throw out there?
November 24th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
UCLA should be able to go undefeated in that shitty conference. Of course, they already lost to Michigan…
November 24th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
Did someone shit in your cheerios this morning fetch? Take a midol and shut the fuck up.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
I will say this though, Washington is the worst team I’ve see so far this year and I’ve watched some bad teams already.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I thought it was good enough Hernia, but I didn’t really like how it just wrapped up all nice and neat like that. Seemed like lazy writing. I’m very interested to see where the show goes from here on out though.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Fetch – You been drinking? I love ya, but I think you are going about this wrong.
I would say that Fetch may have meant that UW is playing like a HS team. Lots of dumb shots and missed opportunities. They should be doing better against KU. Ugly game all around.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
KC, Saw your earlier comments about going to the game. I have 2 tickets in my hand that I didn’t use cause my friends are all too scared of their wives to put their foot down and go. Alas, they’ve gone to waste.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Won’t argue that. Not a fun watch.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Does Knight ever shut the fuck up?
November 24th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
thecassino -
I am enjoying listening to Knight. I thought he would suck at this, but towards the tail end of last year and going into this year, he is ok in my book.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Fetch- I know that was you that wrote those comments on my blog. Pretty sweet signing in as anonymous. It’s this little thing called sitemeter and google analytics that tells me exactly where the hit came from. But you’re not a smart dude apparently. Telling me to die and get cancer? Real nice man.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Yeah I like him too, but I’m a little annoyed of hearing “Worshington” every 10 seconds.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
The Saints might outscore U Dub tonight.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Ok. And I post that and Knight says Naismith is a Kansas graduate.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
You stay classy, fetch.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Whoa.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Jaws and Tony getting into it once again
November 24th, 2008 at 11:38 pm
Alright, I partially rescind that comment. Knight’s analysis is great. When I first tuned in he was rambling about the hall of fame, some women’s basketball player who was great at passing, and Danny Manning.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Good call
November 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Is Knight saying Wershington instead of Washington?
November 24th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Yes. Every time.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
theTed -
That would be my one beef with him. The rambling. Schulman is usually paired with Vitale and isn’t used to shutting down a low volume ramble. He’s the guy the controls Vitale much better in the past couple of years than his other partners in the past. He’s used to shutting down a fast loud ramb le.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
looks like that guy wont be “streaking to the cash” tonight
November 24th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
November 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
So we could say he’s used to defending an aggressive full court press. Knight is running a suffocating zone tonight and wearing him down.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
theTed -
Take a bow. Very nice.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Agreed, so cliche to do it that way. Was kinda surprised they wrapped it up like that.
November 24th, 2008 at 11:59 pm
The Packer defense makes me a sad panda
November 25th, 2008 at 12:03 am
you should go to bennigans
November 25th, 2008 at 12:06 am
@KC Resident
Thank you sir, I try.
So Oregon is about two seasons away from taking the basketball court in full Nike body suits wearing special “dunk force” goggles and “slam gloves.”
November 25th, 2008 at 12:09 am
They look like a roller derby team.
November 25th, 2008 at 1:21 am
Favre
November 25th, 2008 at 3:07 am
Who’s Favre?
