Weis Buyout Only $4.5 Million?
1-liner, College Football November 26th. 2008, 10:45amWeis Buyout: From the only guy in Chicago actually reporting on the embattled coach: “Weis’ contract likely calls for annual increases to his base salary. If that average rises to $650,000, the seven-year buyout would be about $4.5 million.” There’s another mention of Charlie’s gargantuan ego not winning anyone over at Notre Dame. Where there’s smoke, there’s … (Chicago Tribune)

Do I ever miss the Lou Holtz days. Notre Dame really needs to become relevant again.
So I say yes, pull the trigger. It’ll suck to see them start over again, but let’s hope that they already have a deal in place with somebody when they get rid of Weis.

I know a three former ND players. Both they and their playing cronies think Weis is a jackass, and have disliked his attitude since Day 1.
I won’t be surprised to see the Little Tuna get canned. (Rim shot please)

Notre Dame really needs to become relevant again
Clearly, they don’t need to be.
40 other teams will be 6-6 this year, and they don’t have daily articles written about them. That’s truly irrelevant.

Things could be worse for the Irish – they could still have a black coach. Right, guys?
November 26th, 2008 at 11:02 am
True. Then I should have said that Notre Dame needs to become relevant again when discussing National Championship contending teams…

wonder how long ND stays down if weis is gone. recruits will flee and decommitt, and there may even be a few transfers.
factor in the tough academic standards, and you’re looking at – schedule or not – a few down years. five?
the flip side is that some coach comes in and rides next year’s bad schedule to a gaudy record and everyone is impressed … some me if you’ve heard this one before

Question: Does there need to be a “Will Charlie Weis get fired?” post every day?
November 26th, 2008 at 11:19 am
don’t hate, that’s the ND system of operations.
November 26th, 2008 at 11:21 am
I say that they should announce the firing at the same press conference that they bring in the new guy… don’t make the hunt for a new coach a national story. but that new guy better be a big enough name to keep all of those kids.

Darren Rovell thinks the number is more like $15MM.

doubt that would be much of an issue. considering how good (supposedly, rankings are meaningless in the end i guess) his classes the past two years have been and how shitty the product on field has been, and as hes been taking tons of heat the whole time, i still think its more the program and less him.
