For 50 years, from 1945-1995, Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State 45 times in 50 tries. There was a tie, and the three Cowboys victories were by a total of nine points. But in the last six games in Stillwater in the series, the Cowboys won two, and three of the last four losses have come by single digits. Oklahoma, though, is a touchdown favorite, and getting a ton of action.

Couple of obscure thoughts on the Cowboys:

* After we saw them defeat Missouri on the road, we jumped on the Kendall Hunter bandwagon, and we firmly believe he’ll make a better pro back than Georgia’s Knowshon Moreno.
* Two weeks after the Missouri victory, Hunter rushed for 161 yards against Texas and OK State nearly upset the Longhorns in Austin.
* Taking away a 62-yard scamper, Texas only rushed for 99 yards on 34 carries against the Sooners in their neutral-field victory.
* OK State’s blowout loss at Texas Tech seems like an aberration against a system offense.

Keeping in mind that we missed badly on Texas Tech-Texas, Texas Tech-OK State, Texas-Oklahoma, and Texas Tech-Oklahoma … we’d take the Cowboys +7.

Why are we writing about this game that is at 8 pm Saturday night? Because there isn’t a game today in college football that means anything. If you’re interested in looking at a team that could be in the 2009 preseason Top 10, then check out Ole Miss vs. Mississippti State. For 2009, a lot hinges on who returns. The QB is a sophomore, the two two RBs are juniors, as is the team’s top defensive player (Greg Hardy; he’s expect to declare for the NFL). They’ll lose a top WR and more painfully, 3/5 of the offensive line. Another downer: The recruiting class isn’t spectacular, at least according to Rivals.
