Game of the Century: Second Half
College Football December 6th. 2008, 5:51pm
Tebow’s thrown for 2 touchdowns and the Gators are up 17-10 at the half. Just thirty more minutes until we can start throwing around the word “fraud” like it’s 2004. (Currently the most fraudulent year on record.)
In other action, USC leads UCLA in the second quarter. Also, James Madison is on top of Villanova. If I haven’t covered every conceivable match up you would care about, then you obviously attended some crazy Division 3 art school.
Hopefully, ‘Bama can get it together and protect what’s rightfully theirs as the top team in the nation. Just like Bear Bryant would have if anyone threatened to steal one of the women in his harem.

ABC barely bleeped out a player telling another to “suck my d%%k”
Nice.
December 6th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
who is the old dude?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
I just ain’t buying that this is over
December 6th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Julio Jones is pretty tough to stop.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Wow, Coffee is having one hell of a game.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
Tebow steal your girl or something, CRM?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
15 play, 91 yard TD drive for Bama. Impressive.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Nah, it’s that Urban is such a smarmy fuck that he has people outside of Alabama rooting for Nick Saban.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Jamming it down their throats.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Every team’s fans outside of USC would take Urban Meyer at the snap of a finger.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Hoooooooooo doctor…….wide right.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
LMAO…The U beating Kentucky by 20 at the half. I am ROLLING today in college hoops. WKY laying only 3.5 at Tulane was a gift from the gods (won by 15), and I bet the U +175 on the money line and Louisville laying 19 (they won by 40)…I’m sure I’ll piss it away tonite, though. i LOVE LOVE LOVE BC laying 4 at UMass.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I think there are a shitload of people in GA that would disagree with you.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Nah, it’s that Urban is such a smarmy fuck that he has people outside of Alabama rooting for Nick Saban.
Oh Hell no. Go with The Devil You Know. If a Nick Saban team was playing Iraq, I’d pull for Iraq.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
You bastard!!!
/Goes to D-III ‘art’ school
December 6th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
And my college lost to Whitewater in the quarterfinals today, thank you very much!
December 6th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
I agree with Jay.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
My plan is to root against Tebow today, then hopefully root against Saban in the title game. Bing, bang, boom…all is right with the world.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Tell reasonable Georgia fans who want to be an elite program ‘we could get Urban Meyer if Richt was canned’ and see what their reaction would be. Richt’s a good coach, but he’s no Urban.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Damn Jay, that’s a hate I’m unfamiliar with. But you do what you gotta:)
December 6th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Same here. Feelin pretty good.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
Nah, by law in the south is that you have to cheer for the SEC team in a BCS game. It’s a shitty law but damned if I’m getting life for going against it…
December 6th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
After Donnie Jones (former Florida assistant) has a few good years at Marshall and Billy gets canned, Donnie will go to UK.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Wait, you want college football fans to be reasonable?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I might feel different if Nick Saban didn’t leave LSU on CHRISTMAS DAY. And the chickenshit bastard waited until his Capital One Bowl plane landed in Florida to make the announcement.
Leaving your team on Christmas Day is like breaking up with your fiance on Valentine’s Day. Via e-mail.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

December 6th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Ah hem.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Alabama fans hated Saban’s guts just a few short years ago…
December 6th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Is Kentucky being unranked in B-ball the equivalent of Notre Dame being unranked in football?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Remember when Billy Packer left a blog comment?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Dammit, sanders.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
It might also be noted that Nick Saban announced he was going to Alabama hours before LSU played in the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame. Nothing like trying to steal the spotlight from your former team just to rub it in one more time.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
In that they’re both programs whose best years are behind them? Yes.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
it might be because they’re playing on grass but USC does not look like a very fast team.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
OK Jay. I feel you, pimpin’. No need to go through Nick’s long list of transgressions:)
December 6th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Anyone else’s TV just say “SEC CHAMPIONSHIP” really big?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I still think Florida can come back and win, but games like this are the reason why media “experts” piss me off when they pontificate like they know what’s going to happen and they know who’s “really” the best because they’ve seen it with their own eyes.
And yet, if Alabama and Oklahoma win tonight, they’ll just pontificate again about how Alabama doesn’t stand a chance. But hell, if they throw out enough bullshit, they’re sure to be right once or twice.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:46 pm

// he also called Louisiana people “coons” in a story he told…
December 6th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
So true, I mean look at TBL earlier today.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
JMU defeats Villanova, heads to I-AA semis against Montana.
who said that Alabama would never lead again?
Tebow’s been heroic, but no Harvin is huge.
stat – tebow has never won a game trailing in the second half? can that be true?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
@Bsanders…ya, I was wrong.
@Nolan…I think it’s more likely that a different Donovan assistant will be Kentucky;s next coach…Anthony Grant at VCU.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Florida looks very ordinary without Harvin… A good bit of that is Bama’s defense. But, the spread is rather ordinary without that one explosive guy like Harvin…
December 6th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
All my heroes come from behind. Wait, I mean…aw shit.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
I can see that as well.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
stat – tebow has never won a game trailing in the second half? can that be true?
Well, they only trailed once this year. They weren’t that good last year. And Chris Leak started his freshman year. Florida is like Oklahoma. When they’re on, they beat the shit out of you. Hit ‘em in the face once or twice, you have a chance.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Is this site acting weird for anybody else?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
A good bit of that is Bama’s defense.
As much as I hate him, I’m not stupid enough to not realize that this statement is completely accurate.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Tebow’s pissed about not getting that TD. They’re ALL supposed to be his.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
healthy dose of ingram and coffey on this drive, with some jones mixed in.
i’d imagine tebow will get the ball back with 2 mins left, trailing by three and a perhaps the heisman hanging in the balance.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I don’t care what offense is run by a college team. Bad offensive line = bad offense. Good offensive line = good offense. Great offensive line = great offense.
Both of these teams have outstanding offensive lines. The defensive lines are good too, which is why we don’t have a Big 12 game in Atlanta.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Bowden and Archie Manning both sucked off tebow?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
God, I hope the media don’t put Tebow back into the Heisman race if Florida hangs on and wins this.
December 6th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Why the hell would he do that when he has two sons who are 1,000 times better than Tebow?
December 6th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
sack!
December 6th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Take that, Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
hugggggge sack. bad 3 and out. i really thought going deep to jones on the first play was a bad start. the mixing up works – but a bomb?
well if tebow can run and eat clock, the gators should have this one.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
neither of his sons could beat florida…
December 6th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
Who gives a shit, they both won Super Bowls and Super Bowl MVP trophies. I’m sure they’d trade that to be Gino Toretta.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Eli did…
December 6th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Peyton couldn’t beat Spurrier. But he did beat Rex.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I haven’t watched enough of this game: Is this ugly enough of a potential win for Florida so that we could have an OU-UT rematch in the title game?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Bring that up again, why don’t ya!
December 6th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
big first for UF. another one might do it.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
I’m sure they’d trade that to be Gino Toretta.
Or Charles Woodson
December 6th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
Danielson totally called that. well done
if UF gets a TD, it COVERS!
December 6th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
I haven’t watched enough of this game: Is this ugly enough of a potential win for Florida so that we could have an OU-UT rematch in the title game?
No. It’s been a pretty well-played, back-and-forth game. Not 6 turnovers and 11 sacks.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Yikes, ugly, ugly ball.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Not in my opinion. I think it’s been a well-played game.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Say what you want about Tebow. This is a pretty money 4th quarter against who is usually recognized as the best defensive mind in college football.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
It’s not beautiful, but it’s not Big 12 football. The defenses actually showed up and tried to stop someone.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Like what, that he’s an NFL fullback?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
TD Florida.
Game.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
TD gators, get ready for UF-Oklahoma.
the big question will be whether or not the Tide get a late score to blow this cover.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
shut up with Tebow for Hiesman, Danielson. What an idiot.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Oh Christ, Danielson just opened the god damn pandora’s box. Fuck.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
now the question becomes – can the UF defense hang with bradford and oklahoma?
i highly doubt OKL can stop the Gators with Harvin … on the plus side, there probably will be a shitload of points. over/under at 63?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Tebow is pretty good. Most of his deep balls look like rainbows, but he always seems to hit the man in stride.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
“I think he’s one of the great players in the history of the game.”
- Tim Tebow
December 6th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
“If I was starting a franchise in college football…”
Why? Why are they even asking these questions? Idiots.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
whoops, Verne on Tebow
December 6th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Wow. I don’t know if he deserves it or not, but shit, he’s not Jarrett Lee. I’d be curious to see if McCoy, Bradford, Harrell, and Daniel would do what he did if they faced real defenses week in-week out.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Jesus, the Tebow love is approaching Favreian levels. One of the all time greatest?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Stop insulting NFL Fullbacks!! As tall as Tebow runs, he’ll be killed at fullback. He’s too slow to be a safety, and who in the holy fuck would sign him just to run the “wildcat” offense throwing ducks?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Man, with all the Tebowlingus coming out of that announcers’ booth I bet it really smells like pussy in there.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I think we reached Favreian levels when they started talk about how the kickoff team was running faster because Tebow called them out.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I still stand pat on the fact that USC is the best team in football this year. And Tim Tebow will be a bust in the NFL. Great college QB, horrible NFL player.
USC would beat Florida. OK and Texas, whichever plays Florida will win the NC.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
and that does it. florida covers.
nice 4th quarter rally.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Florida INT should secure the spread.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
LOL
lol
December 6th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
They’re kind of justified in saying that he’s one of the all time greats in college football. He’s the only underclassman to win a Heisman, he’s got the most rushing touchdowns in the history of the SEC, he’s got a national title, he’s an All-American, and he’s still got this years postseason awards to come, another national title to play (assuming they hold, which after that pick, is likely) and another year of eligibility.
I’m no Florida or Tebow fan, but the guy’s got a resume that not many can come close to.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
@Mozatta – Why didn’t USC throttle Oregon State?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Hey, I wrote florida would win 31-17! that’s pretty close..
December 6th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
that opinion is fine. but based on what, exactly? talent? i’ll ask you this – what impressive wins at USC had this season? 60-0 over pac-10 cellar-dwelers really mean something to you?
the talent is undeniable. but remember how the usc team a few years ago was one of the best in the history of football … and lost to vince young?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
I still stand pat on the fact that USC is the best team in football this year.
And if they would have beaten a team that Utah and Penn State (and Stanford, for that matter) beat, they would have been able to prove it. Florida won the SEC, played an extra game against the #1 team in the nation, and their only loss came on a missed extra point to a New Year’s Day bowl team. I think their record speaks for itself.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
can’t argue with any of those. intangibles, football IQ, toughness … all that announcer-speak that you can’t put a value on
December 6th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
The same reason Florida didn’t throttle Ole Miss.
A loss to Oregon St. is better than a loss to Ole Miss.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
@Jay – Exactly.
This isn’t the Reggie Bush, White, Smith, Leinart USC anymore. Sure they have a shit-ton of NFL talent but no one has gelled.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
LOL! Danielson just proclaimed Florida as one of the participants in the BCS Championship game.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Are you fucking serious?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
A loss to Oregon St. is better than a loss to Ole Miss
BULLSHIT
If Oregon went to Oxford, I guaranfuckingtee that they wouldn’t put a 60-spot on Ole Miss.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
USC has a weak offense this year. Cal, Oregon St., Arizona St., and BYU all put up more points against UCLA then USC has so far (28).
December 6th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
I would definitely bang Urban’s daughters
December 6th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
ok, simmer down the thoughts about meyer’s daughter, people
December 6th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
USC – Arizona played them close and they only beat Cal by 14, but other than that they throttled their opponents. They beat OSU, Oregon, Oregon St. and Cal. All ranked teams or teams that were ranked at one time. It isn’t their fault the Pac 10 doesn’t have a championship.
Florida is a very good team and beat a bunch of top caliber teams as well. Not taking anything away from them.
I’m not saying USC should be ranked higher in the polls, I’m saying they are a better team and if they played Florida, USC would win. I also think Oklahoma and Texas would beat Florida. It doesn’t matter who Florida plays in the NC, they will lose.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
If there’s something worse than thinking God cares who wins the SEC title, I haven’t heard it.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Question: How is a loss at home to a good-not great Mississippi team better than a loss on the road to equally good-not great Oregon State?
Second question: Why the hell was Florida’s victory over LSU good enough to vault Florida over USC in most polls when USC beat an Oregon team that is significantly better than LSU that same week?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
big tebow fan here. but geez, im glad the 3-hour tebow BJ is finally over. tebow finally finished all over verne’s face as he was uttering that “win one for the gipper” business
December 6th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
body of work, people
why isn’t penn state in the conversation? Iowa is going to a bowl game, isn’t it?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
@Mozatta
Here it is cut and dry. Florida beat better teams by more points and lost to a better team. There is no argument to be made. USC is not a team. They are a collection of talent.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
big xii runs 50 or more on fraudida. Book it
December 6th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
USC played 5 conference road games instead of scheduling a cupcake, like, say, The Citadel.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Ole Miss is not a better team than Oregon St.
Again, I am not arguing why Florida is ranked higher. I am arguing that USC is the better team.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Plus Ole Miss lost to Wake, Vandy, South Carolina and Alabama. Compared to USC, Utah and Penn State.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
USC beat Oregon State? Are you talking about last year?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Once again, USC is not a team. They are a collection of talent.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
Pete Carroll is trying to run up the score in case Oklahoma loses tonight. Pathetic.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Give me a signature win off of Florida’s schedule before today. You can’t find one, nor can you find a single signature win in all of Alabama’s 12 (I don’t want to hear anything about Georgia. They were far and away the most overrated team in the nation this year)
Let’s end the SEC love fest. It is just plain terrible this year.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Compared to a Florida team that’s only Teabow.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Based on what?
Wanting to play for a national title when you have the best team in the nation. Pathetic.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
@Mozatta – You know very little about college football.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
This is why we need a playoff.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
cgb – why because I disagree with your opinion on Florida? You say USC is not a team, I say Florida is Teabag and that’s all.
The argument will be settled when Florida loses the NC game.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
says who? why? because some sportswriters ranked Oregon State higher? obviously there is no right or wrong here, and we can go in circles for HOURS. i am not an sec apologist, nor do i think florida’s the greatest team in the history of the sport.
i just feel the Pac-10 is garbage this year, and we’ll never really know how good this USC team is/was. and i dont care if they stomp Penn State by 40 in the rose bowl.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
So Ole Miss is better simply because they play in the SEC? They lost to Vandy, SC, Wake and Bama.
PSU is a damn good team.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Yeah PSU deserves a shot just as Florida does at this point, just as USC does at this point and whatever one-loss team is out in the Big 12. Asterisk city!!
December 6th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
there is no answer as to who is better, Ole Miss or Oregon State. we’ll never know. you think this, i think that, your cat thinks this, and your neighbor thinks that.
let’s not hate the teams, people. hate the fucking system.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
eat it, clown. UF keeps the BCS trophy in the SEC – you can mark that.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
No I hate Florida and Teabag.
Anyhow…it’s boxing time. Let’s start a new argument. Boxing is better than MMA.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Wow the dominant force known as USC only won by 21. Shouldn’t their NFL franchise roster of talent have won by 70 points?
December 6th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Agree on the boxing argument. Let’s talk about how big of a pussy De La Hoya is.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
cgb- give it up. you’ve yet to make a legit argument.
It’s going to be a great fight. De La Hoya looked decent against Mayweather, but Pac-Man is a different kind of beast.
December 6th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
USC has been more dominant this season defensively than the Gators have offensively. What is that going to get them?
December 6th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
Somewhere in college football people stopped appreciating defense. Nobody enjoys seeing a well played 28-10 win, it’s gotta be a 49-45 you-score-we-score, last-team-with-the-ball-wins affair. Thank you Big-12. Call me a purist, but the game should be played on both sides of the ball.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Florida is 3 in scoring offense and 17 in total offense, USC is 13 and 16 respectively. Since scoring points wins games I will give the nod to Florida.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Dude I am a Virginia Tech alumn. I heart defense. I was being sarcastic and making a point. USC is good, but Florida is elite this year. I definitely agree the SEC is down this year from last, but it is still head and shoulders above the Pac 10.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Not exactly. USC is number one in points allowed. 7.8 points per game. Florida is 4th at 12.3 USC’s number is four points ahead of the best defensive output in the last 6 years ( I can’t go back any further).
December 6th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Just goes to show you that stats and rankings mean nothing. You can not argue that USC doesn’t have the best defense in college.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
You can win if your offense never scores. You can’t lose if your defense never allows teams to score.
Defense > offense
December 6th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Special teams excluded of course
December 6th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Oh shoot, I miread you completely. My bad.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
USC played 5 conference road games instead of scheduling a cupcake, like, say, The Citadel.
Florida has to schedule their cupcakes. USC plays them in conference. And beginning-of-the-season, got-blown-out-by-Duke Virginia, pre-full-time Terrelle Pryor Ohio State, and Notre Dame might sound like a killer non-conference schedule, but anybody who watches college football knows the truth
December 6th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
I’ve gone through and crunched the numbers in excel. USC’s average margin of victory is 33, Florida’s average margin of victory is 35.0833. I threw out the losses obviously and counted the SEC championship game. If I through that out Florida goes to 37.27272727.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
@Virgina, Ohio State, Notre Dame and a random Pac-10 road game
vs.
Miami, Hawaii, The Citadel and @Florida State
Which would you take? I’d take the latter.
December 6th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
cgb – you can take florida, I’ll take their opponent. I don’t need to know who it’ll be. NC game, straight up or against the spread. Doesn’t matter.
December 6th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
I’m not sure how you can compare the best 5 teams in football this year. Florida beat Bama, but I’m not sure that Bama wouldn’t take down some of the Top 5 teams.
THIS is the year for a playoff. A lot of very good teams, that would be a hell of a battle.
