The Media’s Love Affair with Tyler Hansbrough and Tim Tebow Reached a Tipping Point Saturday
College Basketball, College Football, Media Gossip/Musings, Race December 8th. 2008, 10:00am
Let’s preface this with two statements: Florida QB Tim Tebow is a tremendous college football player. North Carolina PF Tyler Hansbrough is a excellent college basketball player.
But can you recall a time when the media has gone so disgustingly ga-ga over two college athletes before?
Surely the memories of last year’s Louisville-UNC game in the NCAA tournament remain fresh on your brain. UNC was victorious in the Elite 8 and Hansbrough was fantastic, scoring 28 points and collecting 13 rebounds. But the gushing from Jay Bilas and Dick Enberg - two very good announcers - and was ridiculously over-the-top, as you can witness in this video. UNC had the better team, was the higher seed, and the favorite! Hansbrough’s work ethic, talent and desire are undeniable (plus, he’s got a clean rap sheet!), but if you had just returned from six months on an Arctic expedition, you would have thought Hansbrough was the second coming of Lew Alcindor. In the next game, the Tar Heels were smoked in the semifinals by Kansas.
Which brings us to Tebow, who was terrific in Saturday’s win over No. 1 Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Without his co-star, Percy Harvin, Tebow ran the football more, committed no turnovers, and led the Gators to victory. He carved up one of the best defenses in the country with precise passes at all the right times. It surely put Tebow in serious contention to repeat as the Heisman trophy winner (more on that later in the day).
But here’s the giveaway that the Tebow-love from announers Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson got to be excessive: When your wife is in the room, and she’s barely paying attention to the game, and looks up to say, “geez, you tell just listening to these guys that they want to be Tebow.” What did it for us was when Verne compared Tebow’s passionate speech following the loss to Ole Miss to “Win one for the Gipper.” Really, Verne? How, exactly, is a guy on his death bed comparable to Tebow being pissed about a home loss?
Tebow’s definitely a likable character - a noted ladies man, he’s being courted by politicians, thanks God first in speeches and carries a 3.7 GPA. He passes on Spring Break debauchery to perform circumcisions in Asia. Like Hansbrough, he hasn’t run afoul of the law. What’s not to love?
But are we looking at two truly great players in their generation - Hansbrough’s probably going to own tons of ACC records before he’s done, and Tebow could be looking at three National titles and three Heismans, assuming he pulls a double this year and then passes on the NFL and repeats the feat next season - or just two really, really good college athletes who the media fell in love with, yet never make it in the pros?
If you’re like us, and wondering why this kind of endless praise isn’t showered upon black college athletes … most of the best basketball talents skip college altogether (Kobe, LeBron, Dwight Howard) or aren’t around long enough to forge a legacy (Bosh, D Wade, Chris Paul). Ditto for football (Adrian Peterson). Some of the top young NFL running backs either went to a small college or a non-national contender (Tomlinson, Chris Johnson, Forte, Barber, Willie Parker, Michael Turner).
But there’s hope on the horizon! Quarterback’s the most important position, so maybe Penn State’s Daryll Clark and OSU’s Terrelle Pryor may slide into the role of Tebow next season.

Ding, ding, ding.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:05 am
who cares if they fail in the pros?
tebow is an all-time great, and if he comes back next year, could be the greatest to ever play college football.
tyler hansbrough is nothing special. very good, but there’s been players that good in the past. tebow is something altogether different.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Gary Danielson may have been jacking off when Tebow threw that quick slant for his last touchdown
December 8th, 2008 at 10:05 am
what bugs me about tebow is the announcers literally saying noone else could do what he does. thats horseshit.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:07 am
You mean somebody else could throw rainbow deep balls and run in touchdowns from inside the five?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Ironically enough, Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic used Hansbrough as a comparison to Tebow in the “College Greats That Won’t Do Jack-squat in the Pros.” Then someone threw in Christian Laettner’s name.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:08 am
There hasn’t been a college player I’ve hated more than Hansborough in a long time, and I don’t even watch college basketball anymore.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:09 am
But can you recall a time when the media has gone so disgustingly ga-ga over two college athletes before
Christina Laettner and JJ Redick
December 8th, 2008 at 10:09 am
gary danielson has a serious mancrush on tim tebow.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:10 am
daryll clark wont be a media darling because hes only coming back for a fifth year because he couldnt play his first year due to academic reasons, and hes black
December 8th, 2008 at 10:11 am
I have absolutely no problem with either of these guys and how the media lauds them. They both seem like genuine good kids, with genuine great work ethics, who are truly great. I would argue that Tebow is miles ahead of Hansbrough on every level, but still, no qualms here. Race not withstanding.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:11 am
Thank you. The talk of, I can’t wait to watch these guys suck at the pro level is tiresome. But I think this is also the reason why there is so much adulation. Tebow and Hansborough exemplify what college athletic used to be. It’s not about getting to the pros and getting a signing bonus, but willing your team to the title. I think they make us recall the “glory days” of college football and basketball.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:12 am
And because he’s not a very good quarterback.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Clark and Pryor are black, so old white men probably aren’t going to gush over them the way they do Tebow. honestly, though, all of the other shit that Tebow does is pretty remarkable and he deserves to me applauded for it.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:12 am
And if you don’t think Tebow can play, you’re wrong. Plain and simple. And I don’t want to hear about the NFL. Just like I don’t want to hear that maybe he isn’t a good Tennis player. He doesn’t play in the NFL, nor does he play tennis. He is one of the best college football players I have ever seen play.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:13 am
laettner is the only player to start in four final four games. he had one of the best games in college basketball history and won titles. he was one of the best college players ever, it was warranted.
the media at least covered the ‘people hate him’ angle with JJ
December 8th, 2008 at 10:13 am
True Statement. I hope he comes back.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:14 am
how many titles has hansbrough ‘willed’ unc to with that legendary motor of his?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:15 am
by four final four games i meant start final four games in four straight years
December 8th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Terrelle Pryor has already been arrested. Multiple times, I believe.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:17 am
people seem a lot more likely to throw around ‘they seem like such swell fellas’ stuff when its a white guy. am i wrong?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:17 am
It’s about the means, not the end, moleman. Hansborough could have gone pro and probably would have gone in the first round, but instead he wants to win a title. The college sports press eats this stuff up. See: Leinart, Matt.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:17 am
I am pretty sure there was a huge Reggie Bush lovefest before he left. “He is the next Barry Sanders” “He is the next Eric Dickerson” “He is the next Gale Sayers”–It def happens to athletes of all colors.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Wholeheartedly disapprove forever.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am
seriously?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Personally, I think that we get to hear more about these guys than some past college greats is because both players are on teams that are dominating right now. Dominate teams tend to be on national television more often and so it is just by default, that the announcers will want to talk about the “best” players from these teams.
Now some could argue that these teams are dominate because of these two, but that is a discussion for another day.
Reggie Bush and Matt L got tons of love for a couple years and it seemed like I would hear about either one at least once a day.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:18 am
McFadden should have won the heisman
December 8th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Ultimately you’re held up by what you accomplish. If Tebow wins another National Title, then he clearly has to go on the wall of college greats. And, unlike many, I think he could make it in the pros — provided he latches onto the right team/system/coach.
BTW, wasn’t everyone gushing over Reggie Bush at USC? Vince Young at UT? Greg Oden at Ohio State? I don’t think there’s racial bias as much as it is simple lazyness on the part of sportswriters. Rather than trying to catch some small/unknown team and profiling those athletes, they write on the big name out of the big program because it’s what the editors and many fans want.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:20 am
big-time LOL
well played
December 8th, 2008 at 10:21 am
the thing about bush and young, and leinart too, i dont ever remember the announcers talking about the personal lives or character of the players, just simply based on how talented they were. announcers talk about these two like theyre talking about their own sons.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Truer words have never been spoken Hakeem.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:22 am
laettner’s career > hansbrough’s career
helped that Laettner had more talent around him, but not by much
December 8th, 2008 at 10:23 am
The reason they weren’t all over Vince Young is not because he’s black. Plenty of black athletes get uber-love.
I think most of the media is pretty homophobic, though, and wasn’t about to gush over some gay dude.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:23 am
perhaps the most accurate comment you’ve ever made here. 100% correct
December 8th, 2008 at 10:23 am
*high five*
December 8th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Um - wasn’t he Leak’s backup and just used as a short yardage back?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:26 am
this is not a race argument. both of these guys are safe for the media to praise becuase both have been around for several years now and have stayed out of trouble. hell, the only thing Hansbrough gets banged on for is jumping off of a deck at a frat house into a pool or making out with some cheerleaders at a party. and Tebow, he gets made fun of for spending his time doing mission work with his parents. both guys have a lot to lose if they were to get in trouble. and, regardless of your personal feelings about each as a player in their respective sport, both are outstanding.
therefore, great ball players with upstanding reputations = mucho media praise.
by the way, old white men gush over a certain black athlete in Knoxville names Eric Berry. he’s stayed out of trouble but he’s a quiet guy. he’s also one of the best defensive players in SEC history and just finished his sophomore season. if he opens up more and Tennessee actually wins games next year, he could be accepted in a similar way. he’s just too damn quiet and unassuming on and off the field so he gets little attention.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:26 am
I see what you mean:
Oh you mean those weren’t from the announcers, but from the players and coaches who were involved in the game? Ooops.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:28 am
are you suggesting his one yard td run and one yard td pass werent stuff of legend? racist
December 8th, 2008 at 10:28 am
Tebow’s receivers should get Heisman consideration for catching those wobbly ducks. Romo throws tighter spirals left-handed.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:29 am
I think most of the media is pretty homophobic, though, and wasn’t about to gush over some gay dude.
I heard an interview on Saturday w/ Herbstreit, who asked Tebow who’s in his IPod. He responded with these three immortals: Kenny Chesney, Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble.
NickP may be on to something
/NTTAWWT
December 8th, 2008 at 10:29 am
13 TDs / 1 int as a freshman.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Are you suggesting that Tebow had no impact on Florida’s championship season 2 years ago?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Miz-No one cares about Tennessee.
This is Funny:
December 8th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Don’t forget how college success translated into pro success for Reggie Buch, Leinart, and Vince Young…
December 8th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Please provide details on Pryor’s arrest(s), because I think that is a crock.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:33 am
/fixed
December 8th, 2008 at 10:33 am
yea, that reggie buch was a huge bust…that asshole can burn in hell.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:35 am
fair point, wil, though Bush went to an NFC Championship game and Young took the Titans to the payoffs last year.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:35 am
reggie buch
Who Dat?
December 8th, 2008 at 10:38 am
reggie buch
Who Dat?
Is that the guy who didn’t point back at Urlacher?
That explains the problems. Saints drafted Reggie Buch when we wanted Reggie BUSH…I wonder what happened to that guy….
December 8th, 2008 at 10:39 am
As much as I hate Teblow, I have to admit he is a hell of a football player. I think the media gush and drool over the guy because he is what every parent wants of their child to be: Intelligent, successful, about to be wealthy, and a humanitarian. He is pretty much the greatest son ever. That being said, as a UGA fan, he makes me puke.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:39 am
can’t tell me they’ve even come close to the hype.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:40 am
I’m suggesting his impact wasn’t the “stuff of legend”
December 8th, 2008 at 10:41 am
who actually has tho, these days? hype > potential, despite the limitless potential every single athlete has according to ESPN.
hell, you can pretty much count the ones who have lived up to the hype in the last decade on one hand. who else has legitimately lived up to it? lebron? tiger woods? i can’t really think of anyone else.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:42 am
LeBron, Tiger, Anthony Lima
December 8th, 2008 at 10:43 am
Huh? 1st Heisman trophy winner as a sophomore, another probable top 3 finish in the Heisman voting as a junior. A national title winner as a Freshman and a chance to repeat as a junior. And he still has a year to go.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:43 am
i can’t really think of anyone else
Dwight Howard
December 8th, 2008 at 10:44 am
hah…you narcissistic bastard
December 8th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Is that the guy who didn’t point back at Urlacher?
I have to admit that was awesome. So was the TD dance.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:45 am
talking about hype going into the pros…yes, tebow was a hyped recruit, but im talking about hype moving forward to the next level and said player living up to it.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:45 am
who else has legitimately lived up to it? lebron? tiger woods? i can’t really think of anyone else
LeBron, Tiger, Adriana Lima
Fixed.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:46 am
TBL — I can much more easily suffer through the gushing about college kids than pro athletes. These kids aren’t millionaires yet, neither of them has done anything particularly obnoxious or offensive off-the-court/field, and Tebow has actually done some pretty remarkable charitable work.
It’s the lovefest over self-absorbed pro athletes like Favre that infuriates me.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Pryor has never been arrested, to the best of my knowledge (and goole)
December 8th, 2008 at 10:47 am
I think I got lost in the discussion several comments back. I will now await the “Duke Lost” thread.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Did you see who said Pryor got arrested? Next question.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:49 am
I’ll take it a step further (and I like Tebow, with the exception of him annoyingly trying to spread the gospel to African kids). If TT would have had his own team to run as a frosh (ala TP this year), he’d have had anywhere from 3-5 losses). Pryor only has one loss (although I fear a 2nd one is coming).
December 8th, 2008 at 10:52 am
Unless you put Tebow in this year’s Big Ten.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Pryor had a 3.4 GPA in high school. In case it’s relevant.
But I absolutely do think there’s something to the black/white stuff. Which black athletes even get remotely this kind of love? Chris Leak sure as hell didn’t. And he led the Gators to a title game!
December 8th, 2008 at 10:55 am
By the way, of all the announcers who do profesional sports, Dan Dierdorf has to be the worst at athlete knob-slobbing. I would rather listen to my mother-in-law do commentary on an NFL game than that joker.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Oh the Big 10 with two top 10 teams (same as the SEC?) Face it, the divide is nowhere near as large as previously thought. Georgia= MSU LSU=Iowa. Deal with it!
December 8th, 2008 at 10:56 am
interesting assessment.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Considering his background, I thought T-Smif got plenty of love.
The redemption story angle was burned into my retina by year end.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:58 am
The Big 10 could easily go 0-7 in their bowl games this year:
PSU vs. USC
OSU vs. Texas
Iowa vs. South Carolina (best shot at a Big 10 win)
Mich St. vs. Georgia
Minn vs. Kansas
NW vs. Mizzou
Wisc vs. FSU
It could be real ugly.
December 8th, 2008 at 10:59 am
might be a combo of factors:
-best black players leaving early
-so few black QBs on great college football teams
-perhaps because the white stars aren’t projected as pros, they are seen by some in the media as ‘the underdog,’ so when they win a Heisman or break records, it is seen as a great accomplishment
December 8th, 2008 at 11:00 am
@ roeth: I dont think the point was that he would have helmed two natl chams, but rather that he was integra part of one, won a hesiman in another season, and then QBed his own squad to a natl champ…altoghether would equal “wall of college greats”
December 8th, 2008 at 11:02 am
TBL, what is goole?
December 8th, 2008 at 11:02 am
warrick dunn and derrick brooks get some credit for what they do. but they, along with dikembe mutumbo, deserve a LOT more.
myron rolle deserves a shit-ton more as well, maybe not for the charitable reasons as the aforementioned, but still, what he’s done is impressive and should be promoted more.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:04 am
miz: Excellent example with Eric Berry. Let’s hope he gets the national attention he deserves with a successful football team next year.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:04 am
NSR, I agree with you there. Those aren’t exactly favorable bowl matchups. Texas could/should be in the title game (nobody is saying OSU is a title contender). I think USC is the best team in the nation, and they get a home game against Penn State (not much better than OSU).
Iowa got picked over Northwestern b/c they travel, even though NW had a better year, so the Big 10 is out of order in that game. Minnesota and Kansas is a pretty solid game. That could go either way, great job by Minny turning things around.
NW vs Missouri will be non-stop offense and no defense, could go either way, people have looked past NW all season. FSU better beat Wisky..wisky is awful.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:05 am
agreed spencer. also, hook ‘em.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:06 am
OR
The Big 10 could easily go 0-7 in their bowl games this year:
PSU vs. USC (Or. State correlation and the fact the Pac-10 blows)
OSU vs. Texas (Texas hasn’t faced a real D all year)
Iowa vs. South Carolina (USC blows)
Mich St. vs. Georgia (Georgia has underachieved in an overrated SEC)
Minn vs. Kansas (I don’t like this matchup for Minn - but Brewster has worked miracles all year)
NW vs. Mizzou (NW always seems to win bowl games they shouldn’t)
Wisc vs. FSU (Wisky blows, but stranger things have happened).
I’m hopeful for 4-3.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:06 am
@spencer — Are you a Rome listener? Did you catch the interview with Rolle that Rome did last week? By chance I stumbled on it, and I’m happy I did.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Oh and I likve Georgia over Michigan State - but I think that Sparty has a chance. But let’s stop acting like all bowl games are created equal, and then bash the Big 10 for their performance. Come play some of these bowl games up north, you don’t think there would be a difference? Honestly? USC doesn’t have a little advantage? LSU didn’t have a little advantage last season in the NEUTRAL NATIONAL TITLE GAME???
December 8th, 2008 at 11:08 am
im confused…i thought you were an aggies fan. am i mistaken?
fuck it, go bucks.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:09 am
I’m always wary of someone who appears too good, especially the hardcore christian type. Chances are Tebow has never tried alcohol, weed, or poon. Not good to suppress all those urges. If he ends up a meth addicted pedophile in a few years, well I warned you.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:11 am
myron rolle deserves a shit-ton more as well, maybe not for the charitable reasons as the aforementioned, but still, what he’s done is impressive and should be promoted more.
Agree, but have a question: didn’t they move the time of the game to accomodate his interview, and gave him a private plane to fly to the interview in Birmingham? I can’t believe the NCAA allowed this, in light that they get in a huff over allowing teams to wear home jerseys to an away game.
Also, agree w/ Tiger on the “hype factor”. I think he is the only athlete in the last 50 years to live up to the hype preceding him. MJ exceeded his hype, in that he grew into being the best of all time. It wasn’t expected of him right away. Also, LeBron is on his way to maybe doing it, but isn’t there yet, imo.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:11 am
sportsdork…occasionally. i was more back in the day when my work didn’t block streaming radio. i didn’t catch that interview, unfortunately.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Didn’t seem to matter to Texas a few years ago.
The “we beat the team you lost to makes us better than you” argument is retarded. Or are the teams that beat Ole Miss better than Florida? Dumb.
I think the MSU/Georgia game will speak volumes, one way or the other.
I would agree, but Texas is playing for a possible share of the National Title, so I think they’ll be going all out. And I don’t think OSU has played on offense quite like Texas’.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:17 am
I wholeheartedly agree with sentence #1 here. it’s the reason my kids will not idolize any athletes…it’s a formula for heartache for a little kid.
however, I really hope you’re trying to be funny with sentences #2 and #3 because I couldn’t possibly disagree with your suppression of urges sentiment any more than I do.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:21 am
How do you know? Play the game in Austin and maybe it’s not the game of the century.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:30 am
@spencer. 85 texas grad.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:34 am
The MSU/UGA game should be a good one. You will get to see two of the best running backs in college football. I don’t really know much about MSU, so I can’t really make any predictions. I would say that UGA’s offense will be one of the better ones they will face. As for UGA’s defense, well, we know what that means.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:34 am
shawn…first, i apologize for thinking you were an aggie fan. i know all about the rivalry, and realize it was an insult.
second, i hope (and believe) the buckeyes mollywhop the overrated longhorns. the next month should be fun.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:37 am
it will definitely be fun. tx needs to put the bcs mess behind them or they will get beat. it sucks but you have to move on.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Spence, are you feeling confident? I’m not. The only thing we do have going for us are a bunch of proud seniors..but what did that get us against USC?
December 8th, 2008 at 11:40 am
yea…part of me feels like UT got the shaft and then part of me feels that michigan sucks, so…
December 8th, 2008 at 11:45 am
They don’t fall in love with black athletes because some of them go to the pros the second they get the opportunity. This isn’t because they’re greedy or hate school, but a lot of them came from poorer backgrounds and if they see a chance to provide for themselves and their families, they would take it. Lets be honest: How many of you here would take the CEO job straight out of college instead of going through the entry level jobs, even if it meant a higher failure rate?
Oh, and the medias slurp job has been there for Eckstein, Jeter (Yankees fan admitting this), and Brady. It seems that recently ESPN and the like just want to market a superstar, and just build him up on such a high pedistal. I mean, Brady hasn’t played in months, and they’re STILL talking about him during Patriot games.
December 8th, 2008 at 11:48 am
cursed…i am. i’ve seen texas play “defense.” they couldn’t tackle during the glorified big xii 7-on-7 drills and they’re supposed to tackle beanie wells?
toughness in the big xii is a myth.
December 8th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Spence: Yeah, they just hand out Nagurski Trophies to players from creampuff defenses. That’s like saying Beanie Wells had beastly numbers because he played a mid-major schedule all year when he wasn’t out with a toe.
(nm, that’s what Wells did)
December 8th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
The one thing I take away from this post: You allow your wife in the room when you’re watching football? Pussy-whipped much?
December 8th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Imagine if those two were black… would anyone care? How much you wanta bet the either one or both of them are arrogant, pretentious, pricks?
Anyway, speaking of race, anyone else notice that Matt Jones is still playing football in the NFL? WTF? Does the league only suspend black players who get caught with coke?
December 8th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
james lauranaitis won the butkus award last year…so, yea, they do.
December 8th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I’ll contend that the only reason Tebow didn’t start halfway through his Freshman year was because Urban Meyer feared being considered a racist for not starting Leach.
It’s hard to find players who are this good on AND OFF the field. They are rare and deserve the praise. Tell me, would you rather you son be more like Tim or more like Maurice (Clarett)?
December 8th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
Leak, not Leach. And no, Leak was a Senior quarterback. They won the National Title with Leak, if you’ll recall.
December 8th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
who? clarett? i vaguely remember someone who wore no. 13 and carried ohio state to a national championship, but his name was sworn to never ben mentioned again.
December 8th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
I think he comes off the OSU salary cap next year though.

If you’re like us, and wondering why this kind of endless praise isn’t showered upon black college athletes
I’m not wondering, announcers are so racist it is a joke. When was the last time a black player was called “scrappy,” or “heady” or anything denoting work ethic or perseverance? The biggest problem here is that announcers and fans make black athletes pay in judgement for anything done wrong by another athlete that happens to be black, but then don’t do the same thing to white athletes when someone like Romanowski has a ‘roid rage moment. This is pretty much exactly how racism works in real-life too, so I guess it shouldn’t be that surprising.
