The Stephen Curry Show Goes to New York
College Basketball December 9th. 2008, 6:43pm
Marvel as the wiry 21-year-old slithers around the rugged West Virginia defense – poor Joe Mazzulla, who returns from a shoulder injury to try and face-guard the best scorer in the nation – and torches the Mountaineers for 30 tonight at Madison Square Garden. Wait for the cameras to find his fetching mother in the stands. Wonder if he’s really risen from hardly-recruited to NBA draft lottery in 2009.
It is Stephen Curry night. Keep the remote nearby, and the snacks closer. Tell your wife that Christmas presents will have to be wrapped tomorrow, or this weekend. For two hours, forget about the sagging economy, planning for New Year’s Eve, or corrupt Chicago politics.

Christmas presents wrapped? Dude, it’s Dec. 9. What kind of wife-controlled dungeon do you live in? Real men wrap on The Eve.
And I wouldn’t be shocked if WVU asks Butler to guard Curry; he’s much bigger and played well at MSG last year in the Big East tourney.
December 9th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Don’t forget nova-Texas play game 2 tonight in what should be a fun one. AJ Abrams and Scottie Reynolds should be fun especially when those two guys get confused by the lines on the floor and start launching NBA range 3’s. In Scottie Reynolds case, from half court.
/bitter Syracuse fan.
December 9th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
I don’t trust a mock draft that has Chase Budinger in the lottery. Not gonna happen.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
works well if you live in the same area as all your family members. not so much if you break them up into weekends.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
on this bogus list, is your HS in the top 100 nationally?
seems like public schools didn’t get a fair shake here – a lot of magnet schools near the top. the No. 1 school was in my area … three good friends went there, and not surprisingly, one’s a lawyer and two are doctors.

NYE is the most overrated boozing holiday of the year. Totally over it. I’ll be staying in this year as I’m attending the Winter Classic at noon the next day.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
agreed NYE is overrated, big-time. Haven’t had a memorable one in years.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Or one that has Wayne Ellington anywhere near the first round.
TBL, you didn’t link anything on that high schools comment.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Disagree. I have had awesome NYE parties since I was in high school (10 years+). If you aren’t having a good time on NYE that is a you problem, not a NYE problem. Maybe it helps being single.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
lol
ooops. fixed.
it’s amazing to me that Curry and a merry band of guys who couldn’t get a sniff of high D1 ball can play with some big-time programs like WVU, NC State and Oklahoma.
gosh i hope Curry becomes a star.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Lebron will make sure Curry always has a job in the league.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Normally I would agree, but this is the weakest draft in years and Budinger is putting up really good numbers so far. And remember, mock drafts aren’t what a team should do, it’s guessing what they will do.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
How about a Rose-Curry backcourt?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
I take that back, apparently if you’re a giant douche bag, NYE is the BEST EVER!!!
I’ll take St. Patrick’s in Chicago over NYE every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
Thought mine might squeak in but it didn’t. I live down the street from Payton Prep in Chicago (#62 I think).
December 9th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
you knew that three was getting cashed
entire gym wants him to go nuts
December 9th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
This game is hard to watch so far.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
how many guards does chicago want/need? i think Curry goes anywhere and instantly, he’s the No. 1 fan favorite. my personal pref, but i’d like to see him in a big market so he’s on TV a lot (preferably east coast)
December 9th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Fixed for accuracy
December 9th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Ok, Washington drafting a SG? Memphis going after a SF? Golden State drafting a C? Not much of that mock draft makes sense. And I will stand by my contention that Budinger will not be a first round pick. Oh, and Ricky Rubio doesn’t appear in the mock. I am sure there is a reason for that, I just don’t know what it is.
NSR, can’t we agree on anything?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
I’ve also had awesome New Year’s Eves..hanging out with friends, getting drunk, how could it not be fun?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Because a guy can have a great time on NYE and St. Patrick’s Day he is a douchebag? Why is everyone so bitter? Jacoby Ellsbury was at our NYE party last year. It rocked.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
As long as I’m with a medium sized group of people that I want to be with, NYE is fun. I tend to avoid the hotel and bar parties for that reason, usually stick to my place or a friend’s place.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
TBL- You don’t think Lovedale or the point guard last year (richardson?) could play high d1 ball. I think they could.. Maybe not start but come off the bench and contribute at least..
December 9th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
LOL, apparently not. I’m not really agreeing with everything this mock draft has, but I don’t have a problem with Budinger in the top 10 if the team is a good fit (Minny, Sac, LAC)
Gordon’s gone after this season and they seriously need to pursue a trade for Hinrich to get a competent big man. How about to Sac for Brad Miller?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
RS – i think it is just the fact at how hyped of a night it is … yes, had plenty of fun, but it is billed as the biggest night of the year, and rarely lives up to that (IMO)
December 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
As a guy who doesn’t go out at all, NYE has actually been pretty fantastic the past 3-4 years.
2 things: Curry needs to get rid of the skank stache, and #1 for davidson looks like he just left seventh grade homeroom.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
one more note re: that mock draft…austin daye?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
actually, yeah, maybe Lovedale could be a reserve at some high majors – he’s a good role player. the PG last year, yeah, he was good, too.
but this year, it just seems like Curry, Lovedale and nobody else.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Yes, along with long lines for drinks because the bars try to pack in as many people as possible at $80 a pop, and no cabs for the trip home which means having to walk 10 blocks to get home in high heels and freezing cold temperatures.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:40 pm
how tight is that rim Davidson is shooting at? or is the arena just THAT quiet?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Well in LA we don’t have the freezing problem and the last 3 years the bars we went to weren’t even close to packed and we were at a swanky place last year..
December 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
/bitter
I pay a flat fee for dinner and booze at a restaurant/bar and there are virtually zero lines at the bar and we always have a designated DD.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
3rd foul on curry
December 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
No, I’m not bitter, I just think you’re an epic douche for implying I’m the reason NYE isn’t fun.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
so what if my h.s. wasnt ranked in the top 100..atleast it produces professional athletes and draft picks, which is really all that matters
December 9th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
These West Virginia Ft’s are horrendous..
December 9th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
nvm, thought it was on curry, wasn’t
December 9th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
i dont see why Curry can’t play PG at the next level …
December 9th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
what HS, recc?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
My high school is #64 on the list. Curry looks pretty good at point tonight.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I remember this scrappiness from last years tournament.
And there is the first Mrs. Curry sighting.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Indeed.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Avon Old Farms, TBL
December 9th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I think it’s safe to say now — Jay Bilas is not wearing pants.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
I think he could if the guy he’s playing next to can help run the offense (Roy, Wade, etc.). But I’d rather have him running off screens than bringing the ball up.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
She has to be the prettiest mom in college basketball. She looks like she’s about 35 and has a gorgeous face.
December 9th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
wikipedia and urban dictionary that one, interesting notes
December 9th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
Yeah TBL that list is bogus. Checked in at 82.
I prefer newskeek’s who had us at 3
@Recc – we got Devin Hester, how bout you?
December 9th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
curry’s missed a few 3’s … no worries, he’s a 2nd half guy anyway. as the defense eases up … Curry begins to cook
December 9th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
I played with Marion the Barbarian.
Power > Speed
December 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
hernia, did you get a screengrab of Curry’s mom? we may need that one later. i have to go ghetto style and take a pic with my phone and then upload to cpu
weak, i know
December 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
PE, Brian Leetch is a notable one and some other NHLers, also Deion Anderson cowboys FB and probably will have a few more in the NFL draft in the next few years
December 9th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
These are some great fundementals. WVU 4-14 from the line Davidson 0-2..what a joke..
December 9th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
wow curry got lucky there..could have been a charge easily
December 9th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
only 4-for-15? But 8 assists, and they lead
December 9th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I must be the only person here who’s watching House instead of the game.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
Davidson has won. It’s almost like a Devin Hester effect. West Virginia is fixated on Curry, so he’s dished eight assists and kept the defense unsettled, unaware of its positioning. To boot: it looks like he’s having an awful game, yet Davidson has the lead at the half.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I switched over fetch…looking like a decent episode so far
December 9th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
That statement confuses me. Is this in reference to me? I don’t believe I ever said that NYE isn’t fun nor did I ever imply that let alone blame somebody for it.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
There’s your quote.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
West Virginia is running two guys at Curry now when he crosses half court. Let’s see the decision making..
December 9th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Totally agree. NYE is the worst night out of the year. Either have an apartment/house party, or stay home w/ a movie and some takeout. Not worth the hassle.
TBL, when Palin bought a pair of shoes, I think you had 17 posts about it … what can we expect tomorrow with this Obama/Blagojevich ordeal?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
is 24 the white lobster?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
the shoes comment is an outright lie. i guarantee you i did not link to it more than 2-3 times. talked about in comments is another thing.
what is the obama connection, other than location?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
I love all the lame ass attempts conservatives make to discredit Obama. Guess what Mike? Obama is your president for the next four years. Why don’t you do something positive for a change and try to get behind the guy who is running our country? Quit looking to start up a witch hunt.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Correct.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
He’s not directly connected, but it just shows how corrupt Illinois politics are. Also, Obama and the indicted shared a fundraiser who is now awaiting sentencing.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
The irony of this statement, after what we’ve seen from liberals over the past eight years, is quite, quite rich. Well done, Sportsgal. You’ve outdone yourself on this one.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
bummer. curry struggling against the big east. i can see the headlines now.
i’d like his odds 5 on 5.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Cracking up. Cue Hands Across America.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
I just turned on the game after having to watch a tivoed “Brothers and Sisters” with my girlfriend. Is there any specific reason why Curry is playing like ass?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Curry won’t face defenses like this through the season anyways. What other team has a 6′8 guard that can move with him?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
NYE is a concert night as far as I am concerned…can’t remember the last time I wasn’t at a big show…this year, I’ll be in the Garden for My Morning Jacket…i can’t wait!
December 9th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Are you fucking kidding me? What have the democrats been doing for last 8 years? I’m not saying Bush didn’t deserve all of it, but to sit there and cry about conservatives flinging barbs at Obama is the height of hypocrisy.
Besides, Obama’s Illinois roots were WAY underplayed during the election…some of the stuff there makes me blush, and I’m part of the Democratic machine in NC.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Yep, every single liberal in the country didn’t back president Bush when he was in office, Mike. I didn’t vote for Bush in either election, but after he won, I said I hope he does a good job. So don’t put words in my mouth or make sweeping generalizations that every liberal working in government didn’t support President Bush.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Most of us were behind Bush after 9/11, and even believed him on Iraq. Then we found out he lied about the war, shredded the Constitution, tortured people, etc.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
they’re all over Curry, and he just hit a rough patch. he’s passing extremely well. i think he’s had 3 diff defenders on him, all much bigger and stronger.
i’d argue that the rims appear tight, and nobody’s shooting well (FT’s have been terrible), but people would call me an apologist.
im SURE somebody will write that curry couldn’t play in the big east, blah, blah … well, that’s bullshit. ample evidence (Gtown last year, being one) that he could play at any level
i hope he keeps shooting. i dont care if he’s 5-for-30
December 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
How many times is this kid going to shoot?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Does Curry realize that he’s shooting from the NBA line? I mean no need for some of these shots..
December 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Curry won't face defenses like this through the season anyways. What other team has a 6′8 guard that can move with him?Scouts look much beyond a nationally televised game, but tonight’s showing doesn’t bode well for someone hoping to be a first-rounder that would be faced up by bigger players. Curry is fascinating to watch, but he can be pushed around. He still doesn’t look comfortable as a 1, to boot.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
i really do think the rims are tight. look at everything bounce out. surprised the announcers arent on this yet. NOTHING is falling.
what is the FG % for each team?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
the best shooters keep shooting
i would have given up after the first five misses
December 9th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Chaaaaange!!!!!!!
December 9th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Ok fine, cue We Are The World.
December 9th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
college hoops- but in the nba won’t curry being coming off screens and spotting up? I don’t know much about the NBA but his dad made it so couldn’t he?
December 9th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
@tbl- maybe the ball has too much air in it.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I’m just playing. This is a horrible game and I’m still watching it because I fully expect him to hit about 4 buckets in a 2 minute span right after the commercial.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Hey tallguy, please explain to me exactly where I said anything about the liberals and their backing of Bush in my first statement? Obama hasn’t even set foot behind the desk in the Oval office but Mike NYC feels the need to try and discredit him by implying he’s tied to Blagojevich just because they were elected in the same fucking state.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I’d love to see them play one quarter with a mini ball.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
West Virginia is at 35 percent and Davidson at 41..
Seton Hall is tied with something called California Baptist with 10 minutes left..
December 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
half*
December 9th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
TBL – check your email.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Ah shit sportshernia, that cracked me up.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Nwilson you are a traitor.(WTF is this UNC bullshit)
Curry = Fraud
December 9th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
just curious – i’m of the impression that what Curry has accomplished in his is more impressive than Hansbrough.
and i type this with complete confidence as he misses again to go 5-for-22, 1-for-13 from three
December 9th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
college hoops- but in the nba won't curry being coming off screens and spotting up? I don't know much about the NBA but his dad made it so couldn't he?His dad was bigger and played in a different era, too. The 2008 NBA is not the 1993 NBA — at all. Would you agree even Redick was more physical (but just as good a shooter, if not better) than Curry? And we know J.J. doesn’t earn his paycheck.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
VT is down by one to Georgia, which just lost by about 40 to someone in the Big 10.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
This is an exhibition game…odd that they are playing it this late into the season, however. Nevertheless, it’s embarrassing for the Pirates.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
yes!!!
keep shooting, Steph
December 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
just curious - i'm of the impression that what Curry has accomplished in his is more impressive than Hansbrough.Agree unless Curry really takes a step back this season (read: fails to make tournament).
December 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
TBL- Curry had one magical tournament while Hansbrough has been national player of the year in arguably the toughest or second toughest conference in America. I love Curry and realize he doesn’t play with much but he doesn’t play nearly the same talent all year, I think thats a huge difference
December 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Sorry Tampa. I had to sit through my bashing of that KU vs. UNC game last year, so I had to come back strong with the logo.
Bingo. Bring it Curry.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
The Hokies would have been amazing with Curry.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Chase Daniel made you do it didn’t he. Hes horrible.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Does Tyler Hansbrough take Davidson to the tournament if he goes there instead of UNC? Arguable.
Hansbrough gets too much hate — but the talent around him has seven times the ability Curry has. Given the circumstances, right now, Curry impresses me more (by a small margin).
December 9th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
he’s so fucking money!!!
tied at 58 after the steal and swish
December 9th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Yes, Chase Daniel has had his time. I just hope that program can sustain some confidence and recruiting. Northwestern is going to get it in that Alamo Bowl.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
college hoops- You don’t think Davidson wins the Southern conference with Hansbrough instead of Curry? Really? I understand the argument, just provind the Hansbrough view..
December 9th, 2008 at 9:11 pm
That’s right I said it. Fucking ALAMO BOWL!
/still pissed about the Kansas game. Can handle the other losses, just not to the fucking gayhawks.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Yea that Kansas game was ridiculous you guys really missed Tony Temple this year.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
i hear where you’re coming from, but it’s more than that tourney. have you seen what he did last year and this year in the reg season against high majors? davidson has no business being within 20 without curry in any of those games.
when you factor in curry’s height and size, and then take into account Hansbrough’s frame, i find what curry has accomplished in 2 1/3 years – with little or no supporting cast – amazing.
look up his freshman year ncaa tourney game against maryland. insanity.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
As much as it pains me to say it, your right. But Martin Rucker was the main loss. When you can line up 1 great wr, and 3 huge TE’s, and a rb flaring out of the backfield it’s hard to stop. The offense just wasn’t the same w/o Rucker this year IMO.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
TBL- understood. I can see it. I think its close though.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Davidson cant rebound they suck. Curry is a fraud.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
Is there a decent QB behind Chunk Daniel?
December 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
curry. bang.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Curry splashed that three right in your face Tampa.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Don’t discredit how good Jason Richards was for two years. In his heart, Curry knows he owes a lot of his sophomore year success to Richards.
And there goes Curry for a trey. TBL cannot contain himself around the unwrapped gifts.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
i guess i should add that i’m a guard, and from virginia. and i’ve been undersized on the basketball court and soccer field, seemingly forever.
(not when playing football – played the kids on my block, and they were scrubs, i dominated)
December 9th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
CGB-They are still down. They are gonna lose.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
@CGB, Yeah, Chase Patton. Is said to be as good/better than Daniel. Born and raised in Columbia I think. He got limited time this year. They were going to red shirt him, but had no real backup plan if Daniel got hurt, so basically now they have wasted Patton’s Freshman year of eligibility. He’s got a much bigger frame than Daniel. It’s gonna be interesting. They are losing a shitload of players on both sides of the ball though. This year was there last shot for awhile.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
This kid is unreal
December 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
In my face.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
curry time!!!!!
another 3!!!!
who says there’s no such thing as clutch?????
December 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Hey, how can you not love it?
December 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Without question…Richards was a good college player.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
The Curry v. Hansbrough debate comes down to eye size preference. If you like a large eye to face ratio, like those found in babies, then you go with Hansbrough. If you prefer normal size eyes, then Curry is your boy. If you don’t care about eye size, and that’s probably most of you, then Curry’s hot mom acts as the tiebreaker.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Wow.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
i want to be his friend.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
TBL, every time you say he’s clutch, he misses the next basket. Can you call him clutch once the game is over?
December 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Off topic slightly. Cavs are 2 minutes away from their 9th straight blowout, up 107-88 over the Raptors… They were up 15 with 11:55 left in the 2nd quarter. It was tight at halftime, but scored 23 of the first 25 in the 3rd quarter to finish it. They are rollin’…
4 games in 5 nights coming. Philly tomorrow, Philly and Hotlanta on Friday and Saturday. A loss is likely coming someplace in that stretch… maybe.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I love it, this kid is Jesus.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
well done!
December 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Only needed 27 shots to get 25 points? He is sick.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
SG-Every time Ive called him a fraud hes hit.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
You can be…on Facebook.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
i wont be saying it when he torches duke
where can i get a stephen curry jersey? I’m being serious.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
@sportsgal116 But every time Tampa calls him out he splashes.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
i wont be saying it when he torches duke
This will happen.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
TBL, Bilas talking about Curry’s “will to win.” You satisfied now?
December 9th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
ballgame. curry carries the cats again.
what a finish. he owned the final 3 minutes.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Yes…but he hit every shot when it really mattered.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
So fucking Virginia Tech couldn’t sign Curry’s younger brother. WTF Seth Greenburg.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
An ugly win, but a win nonetheless. And Mrs. Curry knows exactly what she’s doing, by the way.
I’m interested to see if Villanova is laced with fraudulent contents in about 30 minutes.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
So it’s settled. From now on only Hansbrough and Curry can have the will to win.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
MIKE – Sort of. I’d like to hear more. Did he say desire?
If that’s all Bilas has, i need more
December 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Quite amazing that any team can win giving up 30 O rebounds.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Jay V: Or he could have hit 2 more shots in the 1st half, and the game is over.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
TBL…here is the Curry jersey…

Curry made 5 of his last 6 from the field including two 3’s in the last minute. Way to watch the game NickP.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
as badly as Davidson rebounded, as poorly as Curry shot for 35 minutes …
it’s a win.
2-1 against high majors
i hope Dickie V blows Curry for the next 90 minutes on air.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Um, it’s not that simple, and you know it. In fact, for a commenter who I generally respect and agree with, that statement makes you look like an idiot.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Nick P hates college basketball.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Curry:
We just stick with our system and believe in it
December 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
jay – just ordered one. large. i think it’s kind of messed up that the school can make money off curry like that. why shouldn’t he get a cut of the proceeds? ah, my bad, no need to take us down that road ….
December 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Yep, I’m an idiot.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Cancel the Jimmy V Classic cuz Steph Curry can cure cancer!
December 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
Why does Curry sound like hes 30. Hes like 12 right?
December 9th, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I rewatched Curry’s last two threes and I’m pretty sure both of them were NBA three-pointers. On the first one it looked like he intentionally stepped back to make it so.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
i hope Dickie V blows Curry for the next 90 minutes on air. TBL
Curry is about two weeks away from being the most hated college basketball player alive. No fault of his own, just the media’s over-drooling of him. Tyler H. is happy about this.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:37 pm
That game had an exciting last 2 minutes but by god it was awful
December 9th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
Yes, everybody knows the first 39 minutes of college games don’t count. NickP, you are showing your college BB ignorance.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
I did watch the game. Well, the last 3 minutes. I assumed he did play great from what I saw. But then I saw he missed his first 17 of 21. Ouch. Maybe he didn’t play so great?
It just sounds like the fans who were dogging Lamar Odom last year because he “choked” in the clutch, when he was awesome for 3.5 quarters before that. 2nd quarter minutes are as important as 4Q.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Quizz- Are you serious? Curry was setting his teammates for baskets all over the place in the first half. Come on, it’s so easy to look at stats but if you watched the game Davidson wouldn’t have even been in this game without Curry..
December 9th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
And sportsgal, re: NYE, I meant if YOU can’t find a good time on NYE that is YOUR problem, not a NYE issue. I do agree with TBL that it isn’t the greatest night of the year (often/usually) but I never expect it to be. I looke at as a great way to spend some time out with friends who are married and locked in by their wives and/or jobs.
/not that this conversation even matters anymore
//was out buying TDK…might watch it twice tonight after the Blazer/Magic game
December 9th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
rs27…i am only partially serious. I didn’t watch much of the game but that is an awful shooting night no matter how you slice it. He may have been setting his teammates up throughout but obviously either his shot was off or he was forcing shots.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Which is why despite a bad shooting night that Davidson was in the game and then he took it over when they needed him too..
To me thats the mark of a good night..
December 9th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
I don’t care what anyone says, that Jimmy V. speech gets me every year. However much he cheated while he was a coach went by the wayside in my mind when he gave that speech. $80 million and counting.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Oh no, the Colts just signed Najeh (The Duece of) Davenport.
December 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
The Jimmy V thing is about the best thing ESPN has ever done. Gets me every year too, KC.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
the davidson finish was just like a QB who struggles for 3 qtrs and then leads his team to a great victory in the final minutes.
curry’s a stud, and there’s no way i hate the guy. why isn’t there to like? he’s not on TV enough for the media to really fall in love with the guy
December 9th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
TBL, you see the seatless-subway coming to NYC?
December 9th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
the davidson finish was just like a QB who struggles for 3 qtrs and then leads his team to a great victory in the final minutes.
Jake Plummer!
he’s not on TV enough for the media to really fall in love with the guy
December 9th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
this feels like a nova home game. i can’t see texas winning.
as for Vitale … yeah, he def mentions Curry, Griffin and Tyler H in each game. usually mentions half a dozen other players, too.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
I didn’t realize Nova was that good this year. Who do they have besides Reynolds?
December 9th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Dick Vitale just name-dropped Jeff Boschee. Awesome.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I just looked him up. Seth Curry is a freshman at Liberty averaging 21ppg on 44% shooting (40% 3’s). He scored 26 in a win at Viriginia and 24 (6-9 on 3’s) in a 5-pt loss at Clemson. Interesting article about the way he was recruited.

@NSR – Just got back from kicking some ass in NCAA Football 09, thank you for the link.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Jay Wright
December 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
the coreys (stokes, fisher), and their big men are like 6-8 and athletic and agile. dont think they have enough size for a deep run … on the other hand, these guys are a lot like the simon-dickerson-bibby Arizona team that won a title. they had bramlett and davison inside and they weren’t much, but the guards rule in march.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
I didn’t realize Nova was that good this year. Who do they have besides Reynolds?
Jay Wright
Good one, NSR. Exactly what I would have said. Wright will be the hot coaching name for a new job at the end of this season.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Cunningham is the key. If he can play with the Big Men in the Big East they should be able to give those top 4 teams a run..
December 9th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
I think he would have left by now though. I believe the NBA has come calling as well, and I think he’s one of the few college guys that might be able to make it in the pros.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
The hottest rumor going in Bamaland is that The Ole Ball Coach is interested in the Auburn job. It would cost them another $5 mil to buy out Jimbo Fisher, so it seems he’s off the list. Johnson from GT turned them down. Gill is still in the mix.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
@Cabbage
But what about Patrick Nix?
December 9th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
Auburn is screwed. They need a big name in order to compete with Saban for the next 10 years. But does Spurrier still carry the same weight he did 10 years ago? Maybe.
Turner Gill is going to be a good coach. but I’m not sure he nor Auburn is ready for that. He’d be better off listening to Whitlock and take the Mississippi St job, or wait for another opening.
December 9th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Nick P, I saw the Odom comment..I’ve dogged on him regardless of the quarter I’m watching him. He’s one of those in which the stats absolutely do not tell the story. He disrupts a halfcourt offense and defense more than one can imagine. His rebounds are garbage rebounds that don’t preserve possession (I’ve gone into detail about preserving possessions and what that really means). His steals and blocks are all gambles and not within the team defensive scheme (meaning they’re screwed when he comes up empty).
No semblance of a mid-range game. Just Three pointers and whirling dervishes to the basket.. out of control is exactly how I would describe him.
Stats suck in the NBA.. They SUCK!
December 9th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
care to put a wager on this? if saban coaches for 10 years, i will send you $500. if he doesnt, you send me $100. email me if interested.
NO WAY saban stays at bama for 10 years. none. 4-5, tops.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
If saban coaches for 10 years, or Saban coaches at Alabama for 10 years?
1) I don’t think he would go back to the pros.
2) What other job could he really be interested in? Alabama worships him as a God and he has turned them into a National Championship contender in just two years. He is going to run the SEC West.
3) If he’s not coaching what else would he do?
December 9th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Dwight Howard left the Blazer game with an injury. No report on what it is or how serious.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
cursed…as a Laker fan I definitely hear where you are coming from on many of Odom’s shortcomings but come on, you are definitely selling him short.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Nevermind on Howard…he came back before the half. Blazers’ play-by-play never said what he went to the locker room for
December 9th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Quizz, probably true, but I sometimes think in basketball that there are guys you can’t win a title with. I’ve included him on that list b/c he’s a guy that every team in the league wants with the ball when the game is on the line – and he’s one of them. He just cripples you in close games on both sides of the floor.
He’s a great passer, so I will give him that.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
cursed, I think that he just has so much talent that people expect more out of him. At this point, he is what he is. I think Phil Jackson understands that. Last year the Lakers didn’t have any better options. This year they do. Odom is 5th on the team in minutes/game and often finishes games on the bench with fisher/kobe/ariza/gasol/bynum in. He’s a good role player which is how the Lakers are using him this year.
December 9th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
How can Villanova expect to win games in the Big East playing at this pace. the bigger teams are going to eat their lunch if they play this slow. I can’t believe Wright doesn’t have them running..
December 10th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Wright’s name has come up in connection with every big job the last 3 years…this wouldn’t be anything new. And there is no chance he leaves. He is a Philly guy thru and thru, and Nova has the dough to pretty much match whatever anybody tosses at him.
December 10th, 2008 at 12:16 am
any coach who his worth his salt (as Gill is) should avoid Miss State like the fucking plague. That job is a death nail. Starkville is, hands down, the biggest dump in the SEC making it nearly impossible to get players. Now he has to deal with Nutt, Saban and the AUB coach to get players as well Petrino from ARK and Miles from LSU. Gill needs to take the AUB job if offered or wait and see what plays out.
December 10th, 2008 at 12:17 am
You could not possibly come up with a bigger piece if BS to post here.
