Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels Would be Hurt: Terrell Owens Calls Keyshawn and Emmitt ‘Dumb & Dumber’
ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings, NFL December 11th. 2008, 2:15pm
Tried our best to ignore the Cowboys since the loss to the Steelers. Passed on Jerry Jones taking a shot at Marion Barber because, it’s beyond ludicrous to question the toughness of the hardest running back in the league. For the love of graham crackers, the guy’s been compared to Earl Campbell! We digress.
But Terrell Owens, who doesn’t even realize all his annoying antics on the sideline are probably one of the primary reasons Romo throws so many interceptions – take note of the next TO explosion, and we guarantee Romo will try to force him a pass on the next series – took a jab at ESPN talking heads Keyshawn Johnson (whom he’s feuded with all season) and Emmitt Smith, and a post seemed warranted.
“Those two need their own show – Dumb and Dumber,” said T.O., who was otherwise jolly while sporting a Cowboys-customized Santa cap and blinking red nose.
T.O. called Emmitt a hypocrite for publicly calling the Cowboys a bunch of individuals, then leaving a message on Greg Ellis’ cell phone to pass onto the team. (T.O. wouldn’t say what the message was.) T.O. also pointed out that Emmitt doesn’t even know the name of the rookie running back who starred against the Steelers, since No. 22 apparently referred to Tashard Choice as Rashard.
As for Keyshawn, T.O. pointed out for the 1,348th time that the Cowboys gave Keyshawn a pink slip so they could sign him.
“Obviously, this guy is still really jealous of me,” T.O. said, “because I’m here and this guy is in the booth talking about me and the Cowboys.”
Clownish antics aside … really not much to argue with here. But in defense of Emmitt, we missed out on picking up Tashard Choice for our fantasy team because we kept typing in his name as “Taster’s Choice.” Honest mistake.

Sometimes I wish Tom Landry would come back from the dead and coach some sense into the Cowboys.

I love Barber and he runs hard, but he hasn’t proven this year to be an elite back. A 3.9 ypc on that offense and no game-breaking runs (one run over 30 yards!) is disappointing. DAL would be wise to shop him and let Felix and Choice take over RB duties.

So now it’s T.O.’s fault Romo forces a lot of throws. Granted, that first INT in Sunday’s game really was T.O.’s fault, but please don’t let the G2 Romolingus turn into a full-on G5 Favrelingus where everyone makes excuses for his mistakes.

Too much drama for a team that hasn’t been consistently good.

but, he wears wranglers, and he looks like a kid out there!

Ready to give up on the guy after one year as the feature back? You’re right to love the guy — he’s a beast in short yardage and he takes offense to blitzing linebackers (I love watching him and Portis lay blitzers out).
With a healthy Felix Jones I think Barber’s numbers would look a lot better, no?

I think a healthy Felix Jones would mean less opportunity for Barber, to be honest. If you’re a true feature back, you don’t need somebody else to take the load off during games. I don’t think they’re paying him $45M to split carries. If you’re looking to go that route, there are much cheaper ways to go about it.
The fact is he’s playing in one of the best offenses in the NFL and isn’t producing. By comparison, put Steven Jackson on the Cowboys and he’d be the best RB in the league.

“feature backs” are a thing of the past. Who’s left? LDT? Larry Johnson? Purple Jesus? Clinton Portis? They all hold up so well for so long.

Kinda like Emmitt circa 1995?
/Emmitt is not nearly the greatest back of all time

By the way, Dumb and Dumberer is one of the funniest movies ever. Sooooo many quotables and one-liners.

@Mike — But ultimately the Cowboys aren’t trying to make Marion Barber the best running back by statistics in the league. They are trying to win. So if a Barber/Jones combo is best for the team (and I would argue it’s a hell of a lot better than Choice/Jones), that’s the way to go, no?
And when Jones was playing, Barber was much more efficient.

Kidding, right?
