This is our third week of the Top 10, and finally, somebody has been booted. That would be Virginia Tech, which was uncharacteristically destroyed at home by a team not named Virginia or Miami. Georgia Tech pounded the Hokies, 38-27. Replacing the Hokies in the Top 10: Louisiville.

In non-top 10 news, Michigan State suffered the worst loss of any Division I-A team this season, losing at home to Division III Illinois, 23-20. How the heck are these guys going to take it?

And we’ve got to show you the stat line of the kid at Northern Illinois, Garrett Wolfe, who should be able to find a position to play in the NFL: 31 rushes, 353 yards, three touchdowns in a win over Ball State. Finally, Miami fucking escaped Houston, 14-13.

10. Louisville – Georgia’s just too darn erratic to put in the Top 10, so hello, Louisville, despite the fact the Cards were idle. Three cake walks before the WVU-Rutgers challenges. And yes, we meant Rutgers.
9. Notre Dame – Irish give up 21 points, but score 35 points and were victorious at Purdue. The real story is that the comeback last week may have set the Michigan State program back five years.
8. Texas – Almost not even worth mentioning the 56-3 evisceration of Sam Houston State. Especially with the season on the line against Oklahoma next week.
7. LSU – At some point, QB JaMarcus Russell is going to crack the top 5 in the Heisman race: 18-for-20, 327 yards, three scores in a 48-17 beatdown of Mississippi State.
6. Florida– You’ve got to think the Gators slow starts will eventually catch up with them. Too bad Alabama’s crap this year. Gators 28-13, as Chris Leak tossed two TD passes
5. West Virginia – IDLE.
4. Michigan – Here’s the only question with the Wolverines: Chad Henne has a cannon arm, and the best bevy of receivers in the nation. And a pretty damn good running back. So why aren’t these guys pummeling teams by 30-40 points each week?
3. USC – Booty, booty, booty, booty rockin’ everywhere. Washington State always proves to be a formidable opponent, but in the end, the Trojans are the victors, 28-22.
2. Auburn – The way the Tigers struggled to hold off the Gamecocks Thursday night has to be unnerving to the faithful. Be wary of overlooking Arkansas next week with Florida coming to Jordan Hare in two weeks.
1. Ohio State – Just start the trash talk with Michigan already. Iowa could do little to stop the Buckeyes, and OSU was triumphant on the road, 38-17.
