All sorts of wacky stuff is going on in New York, as everyone waits to see whether or not Yankees boss George Steinbrenner is going to fire beloved skipper Joe Torre with a year left on his contract, or retain him for next season. A decision is expected early this afternoon.

Today, the New York Post is refuting an earlier report by the Daily News, claiming that Torre is “Joe-ing Nowhere.” Those witty kids. That report and $20 might get you a coffee in the city.

But you shouldn’t read too much into that piece – the paper had to come with something to counter the Daily News Sunday “scoop,” which got pickup all over the country. At this point, both tabloids are guessing, and someone will get lucky. And you wonder why the public doesn’t trust the media.

We don’t have a horse in this race, so it matters not … but we implore you to stop whatever you are doing RIGHT NOW and read this piece on Lou Pinella and Alex Rodriguez. It’s phenomenal work. Jack Curry, if you’re out there, keep up the great work.
