Kornheiser Says it Himself: ‘I Always Thought I Signed Up For One Year’

Football fans should enjoy Tony Kornheiser while they can. The New York Post talked to the loveable ESPN Monday Night Football analyst and wouldn’t you know it – Mr. Tony told the paper that his stint in the booth most likely ends after this season.
“At the moment, in my mind, I always thought I signed up for one year,” Kornheiser, in his rookie year on MNF, told NYP TV Sports. “This is the one year,” Kornheiser said. “I have no plans at the moment, but I don’t think anyone should be stunned or shocked or surprised or blow their brains out if I just say, ‘That was fun. Thanks a lot. See ya.”’
Well this much is true: If Kornheiser goes, and Joe Theismann stays, some fans may blow their brains out. We’ve spent far much bandwidth being critical of MNF to get worked up about it again, but here’s an observation: It doesn’t look like TK is having much fun in the booth. Who knows if that’s on the T&T brothers; perhaps they have been secretly plotting his demise from Day 1? However, if the tradeoff is MNF for his old radio show – can you imagine that bad boy uncensored on Sirius? – we’d take the radio show and run.
On the positive side, MNF has been a ratings bonanza for the network, and as Andrew Marchand notes: The Bears-Cardinals classic outdrew Sunday night’s Broncos-Raiders snoozer, and that cable-over-network victory has never happened before.

Kornheiser would go to XM, not Sirius if that was the route he chose. His previous radio show was carried there.
