The Midwest Rules: It’ll Be St. Louis vs. Detroit in the World Series

There’s a surplus of information about the Cardinals 3-1 victory over the Mets in Game seven of the NLCS from last night, so we won’t spend too much time on it. The game was a good one, which is fortunate, because the rest of the series was absolute garbage. We’re tired, hungover, and hungry, so you’ll have to settle for the always-fun hero/goat game:
Hero: Yadier Molina, Cardinals. Awful regular season, but a very good postseason. Hit the game-winning homer in the ninth.
Goat: Carlos Beltran, Mets. Got to swing the bat, fella.
Hero: Endy Chavez, Mets. Incredible catch. Amazing, in fact.
Goat: David Wright, Mets. An RBI last night, but he choked in this series.
Hero: Jeff Suppan, Cardinals. Perez threw a damn fine game for the Mets, too. Let’s say Perez was Matt Damon-good in The Departed and Suppan was Leo DiCaprio-awesome.
Hero: Adam Wainwright, Cardinals. Forget the two singles he allowed; his stuff in the ninth was filthy. Some future he’s got.
World Series starts Saturday, and our first instinct is that the Tigers will easily dispatch the punchless Cards. We’ll venture a guess when we see the pitching matchups.

* And yes, you may have detected a somber tone. It is because we won’t be attending the World Series. We’ll change our tampon now and get back to blogging.

The MidWest rules?
Exactly what I wanted, of course.
Nothing against Mets fans, really (though it’s hard to say the same for Yankees fans) but to see **BOTH** New York teams eliminated takes me on a flight that soars so far beyond delight it approaches ecstasy.
Call it a residual effect of the East Coast-centric mass media expectation and anticipation of a “subway series,” or call it a more specifically focused schadenfreude against the broadcast media’s loss of giga-ratings, or just lay it at the doorstep of reaction to the ever-irritating Connecticut clowns (spelled E-S-P-N) who’d prefer to “fly-over” rather than stop-over in the American MidWest.
So, sorry again, Mets fans. Your great season would have made you stronger competition against the Tigers than I think the Cardinals will offer, but who knows which Tiger team will take the field? After their gift of the Central Division title to my Twins, I’m more astonished than anyone about their playoff resurgence/dominance.
Hope it’s a great series and I can find an alternative audio track to enduring FOX and Howdydoody Joebuck.

Did the Fox cameraman hit that home run? He looks like the 4th run of the game for the Cards…did Lo Duca closeline him for being on the field thus nullifying his run?
