The Reggie Bush Fatwa
Uncategorized February 12th. 2007, 7:58pm
We need some assistance on this one – who can help us come to grips with the Reggie Bush fatwa currently afoot in the media? Every week, it’s something new – Reggie Bush took money in college. Reggie Bush called a high school recruit. Reggie Bush screwed over some money-grubbing wannabe agent. Reggie Bush was in bed with some marketing group. What’s next, Reggie Bush neglected to feed his cats? Reggie Bush parked in a handicapped spot? Reggie Bush gave $500 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign? If he took money while at USC, just take back the National Title and let’s be done with it.
Should we be remotely surprised if Bush called a recruit who was deciding between LSU and USC? Of course not. College athletics is a dirty cesspool, sicker than any Sean Salisbury cell phone image you can dream of. Rules are being broken on a daily basis. You read that sentence and somewhere, two illegal activities went down. One probably involved John Calipari. Imagine if Bush had done something really awful – like make 277 illegal phone calls to recruits, which is what Indiana basketball coach Kelvin Sampson did (while at Oklahoma).
We’ve said this before – nobody runs a clean program. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably one of those douchebags who utters completely asinine statements like, ‘In Roy We Trust … if Roy doesn’t want the kid, I trust his judgment.’
For our sake, can everyone take a 50-day breather from how filthy college athletics are so we can enjoy the NCAA tournament? Please? Feel free to pick up this discussion in mid-April. We’ve already got our sick excuses for the Thursday and Friday on the first weekend of the tournament (plan ahead, people), and the gambling account is funded for a mad, mad March.
We don’t want to know what OJ Mayo is getting from Tim Floyd and USC, or how many times Reggie Bush lit up his celly. We all know some shady shit went down between Mayo and USC, but let’s tackle that in the offseason. Cool?
Lawyer: Bush had no contact with recruits (Los Angeles Times)
Joe McKnight Didn’t ‘Misspeak’ (NCAA Fanhouse)
Bush camp denies making call (Times-Picayune)
Reggie Bush Fined $5,000 (Rhymes with Snitch)
*To bring a life-like feeling to this post, it was written under the influence of Josh Heytvelt’s shrooms.
