Another Danny Ainge Move Blowing Up in His Face

How’d Boston Celtics problem-child point guard Sebastian Telfair celebrate the end to the regular season? He got arrested, naturally.
Telfair, 21 … was stopped shortly before 4 a.m. on the northbound Bronx River Parkway when police said his 2006 Land Rover was clocked going 77 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.
Police said Telfair, who was driving, produced a Florida driver’s license that had been suspended. Westchester County Police Officer Adrian Camacho subsequently found a loaded .45-caliber handgun under the front passenger seat, Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O’Leary said.
Telfair and a passenger in the car, Al Eden Fuentes, 28, of Queens, were both charged with second-degree possession of a weapon, a felony. Telfair was also hit with a misdemeanor charge of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and issued summonses accusing him of speeding and driving without a license, violations.
We already know how this will end – it was Bassy’s gun. His buddy will take the fall. And some might even say, ‘he was packing heat, so what? He had a suspended license .. and?’
Fair enough. Let’s look at the bigger picture for a moment. Telfair has been in the league for three years, and he now has three police run ins. The gun he tried to bring onto an airplane (read: my dumb girlfriend accidentally left it in the bag!), the robbery incident where, after being displaced of a $50,000 necklace, Telfair reportedly called friends to come and ‘take care of’ the alleged thieves, which supposedly was the rapper Fabulous and his posse; hours later, that crew was shot at in the streets (read: I’m not under investagation, so fall back!’) and now this.
How has Telfair done on the court? He’s never shot over 40 percent from the field, he can’t guard anyone, and there’s no way in hell he’s starting in Boston as long as Rajon Rondo is healthy and with the team.
Yet another brilliant acquisition by Danny Ainge, who has done nothing but collect spare parts and not-yet-ready pups and expect brilliance from Doc Rivers.
This week, Minnesota Timberwolves fans were ejected for ‘Fire McHale’ signs. It’s mildly shocking that this hasn’t happened in Boston yet. If the Celtics somehow don’t get Durant or Oden, Ainge should never be allowed in the Garden again.

Thank god the Blazers got rid of him. Look what it brought the team too–Brandon Roy!!
I do feel bad for a high-level Adidas acquaintance of mine. He was involved in the signing of Bassy and said he seemed like a good kid. Guess he was wrong. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite him.

he looks so friendly in that SI cover from a while back…who’d have ever thought he’d be a crime spree waiting to happen? obviously not ainge. next stop has gotta be the knicks, right?

he does seem like a pretty good kid whenever he’s being interviewed. he just can’t say out of trouble. i didn’t see anything wrong with the acquisition when Ainge made it. i don’t think a lot of other people did either. but, of course, now the monday morning quarterbacks will all come out of the woodwork and say how foolish it was.
oh, and are you implying he had something to do with that rapper getting shot? if so, you better call the cops and tell them, because those suckers are under the impression he had nothing to do with it.

Must have been something in the drinking water in Boston in the late eighties, early nineties. Both Ainge and McHale have been lousy GM’s. What do you think of Bird’s record-did he stick with Artest for too long? Does he need to dump O’neal and start over? Next year, if the Pacers have another shitty year, does he fire Carlisle, who was his hand picked coach, and I believe they’re good friends, also. I think this next year is going to be the year when people start to evaluate the kind of job Larry Legend has done.

Dave – You know how the rappers never want the feds involved … they settle shit in the streets.

its actually just a really depressing waste of talent. the kid can play, but he has no ability to operate in a half-court offense. he needs to go somewhere like golden state where he can just zip up and down the court and make nifty passes to his teammates and hit a bunch of layups.
ainge, mchale, and bird have had some miserable failures since becoming GM’s, but i will say that the celtics are in better position for the future than the pacers or t-wolves, because they have some young talent, a high draft pick, and a budding superstar in Al Jefferson. The pacers and wolves, on the other hand, don’t seem to have any hope at all.

Bill Simmons had a terrific bit in his blog earlier in the week. “Telfair’s next doc? ‘Through the Fire 2: Greece or Turkey.’ ” Love him or hate him, that’s a great line.

1. Being a “rapper” Fab could have been shot for a number of reasons ( street cred….maybe someone thought Moe was a neckless pit bull)
2. Telfair is nothing more than a typical over-hyped New York based player.
3. Ainge, McHale, Bird, Mullin..I have been saying this for years how is Jordan and Thomas take all the heat and this group gets a pass.
4. Conley needs to re think this draft thing and spead another year working on his upper body and skills

Hmm…another story of Athlete Gets Everything He Wants, Athlete is Always Catered To, Athlete Takes No Responsibilty, Athlete Gets in Trouble.
Who’s have guessed that he was the trouble maker between him and his cousin, Stephon?
Too much too soon.

Wait, a thug gets drafted into the League at a young age, gets millions and we’re surprised when this happens? The guy grew up ghetto. You can take him out the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of him.

I was just trying to think of all of the superstar or at least star players that have had a great career as a GM…I cant think of any…i keep getting MJ, Bird, McHale, Ainge, Thomas et al….Was Dumars really a star player…I guess he may be an exception….it usually seems like te fringe player, much like a back up quarterbcak always seems to do well in these positions though…they always spend so much time around the talent evaluators rather than actually playing…I know that there has got to be a superstar or two that was good at being a GM….Oh wait…I just thought of Jerry West…but how many others can we name…Maybe I need to stop drinking so I stop forgetting all of this useless sports info

Does Goodell have any jurisdiction here? I heard he tried to suspend Bassy for a year already.
