He’s Growing on Us
Baseball, Blogging, Media Gossip/Musings May 9th. 2007, 3:58pm
The most acerbic athlete blogging on the net is, without question, Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling. Especially when the topic is Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy. Just so you’re not confused, in his most recent blog entry, Schilling refers to the writer as CHB – ‘curly haired boyfriend’:
CHB can sob all he wants, Rocket coming here gave him something legitimate to actually write about for the next 4 months. Now he can stick to the bitter style he’s perfected and talk about how bad we suck because we failed to get Rocket.
Contrary to CHB’s belief, and she may find it hard to believe, I LOVE pitching with Daisuke, I love to be able to see first hand what he brings to the team and the organization.
Feuds are fun. Especially when it’s as one-sided as this one. And what can Shaughnessy do? Schilling’s got the fans, he’s got the bloggers, and it’s not like anything he’s saying here is off-base. Wait until more athletes get wind of this new fangled thing called the internet. You’re going to see much more of this in the coming years.

I wish it wasnt Schilling ripping Shaugnessy. Schillings an ass. He said half of baseball was using steroids then put his head between his legs in front of congress. I cant listen to the guy talk.

The problem is Dan didn’t “sob” about Clemens, at least not is his newspaper column. While I’m sure there must be some bad blood somewhere, this seems like an attack out of right-field by Schilling.

I think it’s more about how Dan didn’t use the full quote in his column … which sort of changes the tone of his comment.
And this coming from a guy who thinks Schilling is a major dick.

Schilling is an asshole, plain and simple. Someone needs to stick a pin in the windbag.

I’ll be the first one to admit Schilling can grate from time to time, but I’m glad you’re not completely crucifying him for the feud, either.
It’s kind of funny: When Schilling first arrived in Boston, everyone treated it like such a novelty that he’d call radio shows, say what he actually thinks to reporters and launch charity events. Now, he gets ridiculed for all three — even the charity work.

boston sportswriters are dickheads anyway. its nice to see someone give it right back to them.

Schilling’s blog-thoughts didn’t come out of left field. Not only did CHB not use the full quote, he called Schilling a blowhard in that same article. I don’t think a guy’s wrong for responding to that. Or to some dick announcer saying that he painted his sock.

This guy talks too much and its pretty annoying, but I’ve had to put up with it cuz I’m a Red Sox fan and the whole bloody sock thing and all that… and I dont care about this feud with CHB. What I do care about is him going off on Barry Bonds with his whole steroids, wife, taxes rant. It’s one thing to comment on someone’s performance on the field or the legitimacy of a record, but anything outside those lines is uncalled for. You dont talk about a man’s money, or his woman. And what makes all this even more insufferable is that this is just his reaction to the attention Clemens is getting… this guy is one of the most known players in the game, he will forever be a hero in Boston for the ‘04 playoffs, he has millions on top of millions of dollars, and he’s the ace of the best team in the AL. It is pathetic that he cannot stand for the spotlight to be off of him for more than a day, so much so that he started his own blog! Gilbert Arenas starting a blog is fun, this guy doing it is just an outlet for him to be able to run his big mouth anytime he feels like it. Of course I want him to win when he’s on the mound, but I really hope he retires at the end of this season and just goes away. I hold Barry Bonds in a higher regard than I do Curt Schilling.

I wonder if Curt will get villified for breaking “the code”like Kobe did?
If Curt knows like I know…he may wanna avoid Cam’ron and ‘nem.

If you think about it, Curt Schilling is the sports writer’s dream. Just imagine being able to ask an open-ended question and get a sound bite like the ones Curt has become famous for.
“So, Curt, anything you wanna talk about before you head out to the mound before your bullpen session?”
“As a matter of fact, yes. I’d like to talk about Barry Bonds. Got a minute?”
“Let me grab an extra pencil!”
