I really can’t understand Goodman’s view of Memphis. He talks about them as if there was no way anyone could have predicted they would be good last year. A team full of top-notch recruits, many of them with Elite Eight experience, and he ripped them at every opportunity.

I love the “actually make them look intelligent” comment. Memphis played some of the best defense in the country last year, and ran a very unique offense to the tune of 80 points per game. Somehow, Goodman thinks Derrick Rose by himself is the answer. Well, I think Rose will be great, but it’s Goodman’s idiotic view of Memphis the past two years that gets me. Why so critical? Any other team in the country that returned everybody from an Elite Eight run (and several guys who have been to two consecutive EEs) would be right where Memphis is in the minds of most writers, Derrick Rose or no Derrick Rose.

Goodman can’t seem to wrap his oxygen-starved brain around two straight Elite Eights. He would be crapping his pants in excitement, waiting to praise any other program from a non-BCS league to have accomplished as much. Instead, he always looks for the negative angle with Memphis. I wonder what sour grapes he has with the program?

Goodman is one of the best college bb writers in the biz, hands down. He usually hits everything right on the head when he predicts games, drafts, etc. Everyone should feel privledged to be able to read his work… Jeff, can I get those ‘08 Final Four tix you promised me now?

Kevin- your first paragraph shows you as thin skinned. Yes yankee fans are the most thin skinned in the MLB. Thats the truth. Kentucky and UNC fans I’ve met always hate to be criticized. They think everything they’re doing is right a la Yankee’s fans. You def. proved the interview’s point by contradicting a fact.

I thought Goodman’s article on Patterson was great. That’s as an outside observer.

I was not offended by anything Jeff Goodman had to say. If you are a writer and you write about UK or UNC and you recieve a lot of feedback, be it positive or negative, then I think you are probably pretty happy. Isn’t that the job of an internet columnist? Doesn’t he want people to come to his site?

Idon’t understand how I proved his point. I am a UK fan and a sports fan. I went to a sports blog, read an article, and made a comment. If it was not for people like me, sports blogs like The Big Lead would not be around. I won’t apologize for being a passionate fan.

I guess readers of The Big Lead were being thin-skinned when the Schrutebag bombed their site. Why else would they complain?

And if you think Tubby Smith was the best coach UK will have for the next 20 years, you obviously do not watch a lot of college basketball. I was one UK fan who did not think Billy D would come. Like others, I didn’t think it made sense, since UF could, and apparently will, pay him a lot. I am happy with Billy G and look forward to next season.
