The NBA Finals End Tonight … Will Scoop Make an Appearance?*
Uncategorized June 14th. 2007, 4:54pm
Game Four of the Finals is tonight. Robert Horry, pictured here, is on the verge of his 7th NBA title, which would put him in an elite class – he’d have more titles than any non-Celtic in NBA history. Let’s just hope somebody is watching when it happens.
Since there’s no point in talking about the game – the series is ovah – let’s talk about media coverage and our favorite entity, ESPN. Specifically, Scoop Jackson. [* Update: Call off the dogs!! Scoop has been found! He's arrived in Cleveland - this article just went up on the .com 30 minutes ago - just in time for the Spurs coronation. We look forward to his prose tomorrow.]
Why isn’t he at the NBA Finals? We thought the tennis aficionado might have been at the French Open, but no. Monday, Scoop wrote about a tired topic, Mike Vick. Maybe the former Slam Magazine writer is obsessed with dog-fighting – that was Scoop talking about Ron Mexico on Outside the Lines, right? – and hoops is no longer his forte. Scoop’s written plenty about the NBA playoffs, but unless ESPN elected not to put a dateline on just his stories, he’s been opining on the postseason from his couch. Like a blogger!
ESPN has dispatched a small army of writers to the finals – the likes of Marc Stein, Kobe’s buddy Ric Bucher, superstar-in-the-making Chris Broussard, Chris Sheridan, Jemele Hill and probably half a dozen other characters from the Magazine and .com whose names we’re not familiar with. Should we be surprised Scoop’s not there?
Theories on where Scoop has been:
a) Prepping for Wimbledon coverage
b) Working his Chicago connections to land a Tank Johnson interview
c) Getting a jump start on US Open Tennis coverage
d) Interviewing Chicago Bulls brass extensively to get the goods on whether or not they’ll trade for a power forward or draft Yi
e) He elected to take a vacation during the biggest two weeks of the NBA season

No sooner than you posted this entry, Scoop’s take on the NBA Finals is at the .com.

Who does the public care less about? The NBA or Scoop Jackson?

Scoop siding with Vick the black athlete is an appalling issue where Vick is clearly wrong. No Way!

I’m looking for Scoop’s article where he shows his concern about what TBL is doing.

Big Shot Bob – Is there a luckier athlete out there? The guy is a solid contributor, but never a major star, yet has 7 rings. Right place, right time should be his life’s motto.

But at the same time Mozatta, a lot of those rings don’t happen without him. Weird….

He’s the Forrest Gump of the NBA.

Anyone hoping Cleveland wins just so we can see Eva jump up and down for another game? Hot.
Little slut.

Sean, I’m not doubting that he’s a clutch shooter and has helped win some of those 7 rings, but he was never a major contributor. He’s always been in the right spot at the right time. He also delivered in those right spots.

“In an era when songs from the Village People (“YMCA”) and Gary Glitter (“Rock and Roll Part 2″) remain in heavy rotation and are considered standards at sports events, hearing the urban sounds of something “authentic” is as refreshing as seeing T.I. in Chevrolet commercials.”
This cracked me up. So hip-hop selling out is refreshing as long as its done in both NBA stadiums and car commercials?

Scoop was on local radio here in Philly last week and he told our guy Jody Mac that he wouldnt be at the finals, but Jemile Hill was gonna be there. Sorry i cannot recall the reason he wouldnt be there. but i had the “scoop” last week !
i seem to recall him talking about Detroit. does that ring a bell for anyone here ?

Right on Mozatta. He’s been a lucky dude and at the same time the teams he has been on have been lucky to have him. A win win.

Why is Scoop Jackson worthy of a post on TBL?
He’s almost as irrelevant as Notre Dame football.

Anyone here Jemele Hill on NPR this morning. I started listening halfway through, and I could have sworn that they were talking to a 11 year-old. According to Jemele, the Spurs aren’t a dynasty because they’ve never own back-to-back titles. That makes perfect sense.
