Pacman Let His Crew Gobble Up a Once-Promising NFL Career
Uncategorized June 21st. 2007, 2:26pm
So how is the NFL career of Pacman Jones not over? While his felony charges are the story, let’s take it bigger picture: he’s got a yearlong suspension to serve and assuming he doesn’t go to jail on these charges, who truly thinks the guy won’t get in trouble again? It’s like asking whether or not a young Hollywood starlet (enter name here) won’t do blow for a year.
Jones is too gully for the NFL – he’s not some wannabe gangsta like Larry Johnson of the Chiefs. It’s difficult for us to get too worked up about Jones’ predicament … we’ve been breathlessly reporting on the DB making it rain since this all started in February (Sporting News radio totally broke this story the day after it went down).
The Titans have already taken the ‘he’s not our problem now’ stance, which leads us to believe he’s done with them. The Titans are like us – petty crimes and misdemeanors (see Webber, Chris) are unlikely to disturb us. Tolerance wavers around weapons and tends not to extend to felonies. The NFL is close to needing a PR overhaul, and Pacman’s going to be their test case.
Here’s why we don’t think he’ll play another down in the NFL – even if he doesn’t do one second in jail for these felonies, he’s still going to need to steer clear of trouble from February 2008 to August 2008. Six months of no strip clubs? Six months avoiding his posse? Arena football and the CFA are possibilities … and for two leagues needing any kind pub, both should take a chance on the guy.

LJ’s non-gangsta comment of the day:
“They (my agent and father) got me saving money. I’m hustling to get more money to put in the bank. They already started setting aside different accounts, if that would have to happen. They’re already telling me to be cautious about how I spend, where I go and stuff like that. To make sure that if it goes down like that, then I’ve got to be able to pace myself so I won’t be in trouble.”
Never, have I ever, heard an athlete talk like that. Ever. Maybe Pacman should take a lesson from LJ.

Unless he ends up with a lifetime NFL ban or years in prison, I think some coach will see all the talent and convince himself that he can get through to him. Doubt we’ve seen the last of Pac in the NFL.

Bullshit, Lawrence Phillips, he had a lot of “talent”.
Dude’s gone, Ricky Williams…gone
I tihnk the NFL has slowly learned it’s lesson.
But Dr. Rev. Harry Edwards, Esq…the guy with the beard, once said that “we haven’t seen anything yet” when talking about the thugs entering pro sports…
And he was right.

How many opportunities and 2nd/3rd/4th chances did Williams and Phillips get though? I’m not sure we’ve seen the last of Pacman in the NFL either. As far as being in the AFL, forget it. I’ve been a season ticket holder in that league for 15 years, and the league just doesn’t really do the criminal element, the commissioner and the teams are more selective than that.

Is PacMan’s talent so valuable that it is worth all of the mess that comes along with it? Really? He’s a decent CB with solid return skills. I would think you could find a lot of guys – cleaner than Jones – who could do the job.
Aren’t return guys a fickle bunch anyway? A lot of noise was made about Dante Hall 3 years ago. None since, really, and his numbers are down. Scroll down the list of Punt and Kick return leaders in the NFL, and ask youself if the Titans would be worse off with Kevin Faulk, BJ Sams or Troy Walters…

Benard , Do you watch football?
A)No one who watches football would compare Lawrence Phillips or Richard Williams to Adam Jones .”Think the NFL has learned it’s lesson”
What are you talking about ?

What kind of language is that?
LOL
The NFL has learned by these numerous incidents that this bullshit can’t stand. The Universities allow it, but the NFL’s commissioner won’t.
Capice?

How about VS (Obviously needs the ratings) sets up an arrangment where Pacman and Dukes room together during Pacman’s year suspension. Would that not be the greatest reality show in the history of the universe? Between making it rain and knocking up foster children at grandma’s it would be priceless.

Pacman is done.

I think TBL is right though Pacman may have an ouside chance to come back. The problem is not the charges in Vegas. After all the noise and drama, only felony “coercion”!? charges for what happened inside and no charges for anything outside, puhleeze. He could beat that with a paralegal. The DA seems to be doing some pr ass covering and angling for a plea to lower misdemeanors. The real issue is can he stay out of trouble. Not very likely. Hell, even if he gets a parking ticket, it’s going to be “Breaking News” on ESPN.

The only thing that was in his favor was that he was never charged with anything.
This is all shaping up for him to be the star attraction in Mark Cuban’s new league.
