No Copa America Upset This Time: Argentina 4, USA 1
Uncategorized June 29th. 2007, 4:52pm
Well, that was fun!
The US scored on a PK in the eighth minute, and Argentina owned the rest of the game. Crespo netted two.
So perhaps it wasn’t a bright idea to play all the inexperienced kids. Discuss.

I like those jerseys, except for the stupid crest.
And, yes, the young Americans got spanked but I would chalk it up as a learning experience.

Why does the big guy have his shorts up past his belly button? That what soccer players do when they get blown out, emulate Pee Wee Herman?

Better to get blown out with the JV than with the varsity.

It wasnt as bad as the scoreline indicates. It was 1-1 until the 63rd minute after the US made some terrible subs (Eddie Gaven!!!). Overall, a proud showing by our third string against the 5th ranked team in the world. Now focus on Paraguay

We got to see a lot from the young guys, a handful of them will play a huge role in the future of US Soccer.
Considering they were playing the best team in the world in South America I didn’t see much of a point in filling the roster with the veteran crew.
Benny Feilhaber is the balls.

Was the game on ANY channel? I didnt even see it on the spanish station.

UM is dead right. The game might have been closer had the US had their real players in. Let’s credit the Argentines and say “We’ll get them next time at the Confederations Cup.”

Johnny, it was on Gol TV
June 29th, 2007 at 6:13 PM
It was also on Univision

And I love the fact that the US National team will soon be dominated by Jews like Feilhaber and Bornstein.

While blowing Messi yesterday, i forgot to mention Tevez. He’s really the balls. I’ve got them taking the 2010 cup

TBL- I picked them to win in Germany and I have no doubt they’ll make the finals in South Africa. My brother rocks his Messi jersey but I proudly sport the Tevez version. Easily my favorite non-American/non-Chelsea player in the world (apologies to Ribery).

Yeah, Argentina just has a great team. But the US’ performance makes me think that qualifying for the second round may not be as difficult as I thought…
June 29th, 2007 at 6:39 PM
Agreed, Jon. As does Colombia’s performance yesterday.

The USA has a soccer team?

I was pretty damned impressed with our C team, actually. That first half was definitely encouraging. ARgentina has so much speed. Anytime you can bring someone like Tevas off the bench, you have a team that runs deeper than John “The Human Tripod” Salley.
That goal that Messi set up for Crespo was a hell of a run. I will say that we did a very solid job on him in the 1st half. He was a non-factor for most of it. That being said, we have no chance against them even with our 1st squad. I think I’ll watch our next game on Univision rather than listen to those assclowns on GolTV.

To put this game into perspective, chances are the four guys in this photo will never play a minute’s worth of meaningful action during qualification for and/or during any actual World Cup match.
US Soccer made it clear long ago that it placed higher priority on the recently concluded Gold Cup over Copa America. I guess their point was made.
If nothing else, hopefully this tournament will:
1. Prove that the Eddie Johnson of two years ago was a fluke on the international stage. Otherwise, I will remain convinced that he’s in possession of incriminating pictures.
2. Give Feilhaber and Bornstein some eye-opening experience to use to their advantage during WC qualification. I just hope all the newfound Feilhaber-love (I include myself in this mix) doesn’t go to his head. But, then again, it’s US soccer, so it’s not like he’s getting mainstream media rubdowns either.
3. Show that the ‘C’ team can still run with the likes of Paraguay and Colombia. Both are dangerous — and beatable — teams that should help Bradley find answers about his roster.
