Yardwork: Tigers Roaring

Detroit 6, Boston 5: The Red Sox limped into the All-Star break by getting swept by the defending AL champs. That’s four three straight losses for Boston, which didn’t get to pitch Josh Beckett in the series. The surging Tigers are now up two one games on Detroit in the AL Central. And the Red Sox must be wary of the Roger Federer-Yankees connection.
Atlanta 5, San Diego 4: Andruw Jones is up to .211 after a 3-for-3 performance. The Braves took two of three on the left coast and are a mere two games behind the Mets.
Arizona 3, Cincinnati 4: If you were looking for one of the three teams in the NL West to fade into Bolivian by the break, look no further than the Diamondbacks. That’s five road losses in a row. After the break things don’t get any easier – the Padres and the best NL pitching staff come to town.
Seattle 7, Oakland 3: Those pesky Mariners took three of four in Oakland shoving the Athletics nine games back in the AL West. Though they can’t get Mark Buehrle, Seattle should still try to get another starter if it harbors Wild Card hopes.
Minnesota 3, Chicago 6: The White Sox rebounded from Friday’s disasterous doubleheader to take the last two from the sputtering Twins. Javy Vazquez is on quite a tear – this was his second straight complete game victory. In his last three starts, he’s allowed just five earned runs and has 25 k’s.

Correction: I don’t think the Tigers are two games up on themselves.

Thanks for the Sweet Lou Whitaker throwback. Nobody was as cool as Lou at second.

The Tigers actually aren’t up two games on anybody- they have two fewer losses than Cleveland, but they’re tied in the win column.

Additionally, the Red Sox lost THREE straight- not four. They were swept by Detroit after sweeping the D-Rays. They enter the All-Star break after a mediocre June (13-14 i believe) and July (4-4)… but still OWN the AL East by 10 games. [ALSO- despite limping through June and July, they still have the best winning percentage in the entire league]

Thanks, folks. Rushed through Yardwork this AM because we’ve got a good interview coming up and there’s a bunch of other crap happening. Apologies all around.

It is going to be a fun (exciting) second half. I love watching good baseball.

I may never forgive you for this blunder TBL. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt.

Lots of stuff happening during the deadzone of sports?

It still says that the Tigers are two games up on Detroit in their division…anyway, New York all but tried to hand Boston the AL East on a platter in the first half. That 10 game lead doesn’t seem as big as it should

Now it says that Detroit is one game up on the Tigers.
Indians! The Native-American hating team from the dirty state of Ohio is one game behind the Tigers.

That’s hilarious. Maybe TBL has it right. Perhaps somehow, someway, Detroit is in fact one game ahead of itself. Or is it one game behind itself? I need to stop drinking…
