Bonds Guessing Game, Winner Gets a Free Post!
Uncategorized July 20th. 2007, 3:37pm
Contest time: with Barry Bonds just two homers away from tying Hank Aaron’s all-time mark, it’s time for the masses (that’s you) to take a gander at two questions:
Which pitcher will Bonds hit 755 off of?
Which pitcher will Bonds hit 756 off of?
We’d have to guess somebody has maybe a 2 percent chance of getting both of these right … but the winner gets a free post. Get your guesses in quick, because with Bonds maybe boycotting ESPN, there’s a good chance he’ll want to break the record on FOX Saturday. The only hangup there is that the game is in Milwaukee … wait, that’s a not a hangup, because Bud Selig would be there! Fun times in Cheese country!
Here’s who Bonds is facing this weekend: Jeff Suppan, Dave Bush, and Claudia Vargas. And here’s the entire Brewers pitching corps. After that, the Giants head home to face the Braves and here’s who the Braves are likely to start the first two games Smoltz and Hudson.

755: dave bush
766: derrick turnbow

756 i mean
July 20th, 2007 at 3:51 PM
I really don’t think it’ll happen this weekend, but if it does I’m going to guess Dave Bush gives up both on Saturday. Lozo’s going to be at that game and I’m sure he’ll find it easier to entertain us on his blog by making fun of the guy with the last name Bush. Please make this happen!
By the way, is it really Claudia Vargas or Claudio Vargas? Are you enlightening us to the private life of Mr. Vargas? Does he dress in drag or will he be getting a sex change operation?
July 20th, 2007 at 3:52 PM
I am going to say Shouse and then thinking he is going to wait to break it at home go with Soriano
July 20th, 2007 at 3:54 PM
Bruce Bochy has said that Bonds won’t play Saturday, but depending on what happens tonight, we’ll see. I found it interesting that Matt Morris wondered out loud about the priorities of the team. He was in his second year in the bigs when McGwire broke the record, so he knows about the circus atmosphere surrounding the team.
July 20th, 2007 at 3:55 PM
So we have to get both right?
Since Bonds, my least favorite player of all time, is going to break the record of Aaron, one of my sports heroes, then surely he will do it on John Smoltz, an unlikely candidate, but he’s my favorite pitcher, ever.
I’ll take Vargas for 755.
July 20th, 2007 at 3:55 PM
Vargas, then Hudson
July 20th, 2007 at 3:56 PM
Oh btw… I say he hits it off Smoltz in SF on Monday.
July 20th, 2007 at 3:58 PM
As a Braves fan this is going to hurt but Bonds hits 756 off of James on Wednesday Night! Homer number 755 is hit on Sunday against Vargas. I am praying that I am wrong and that he doesn’t hit it against the Braves but Bonds has had this set up for the longest. He would kill two birds with two shots….Bud’s team and the Braves.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:00 PM
I say Bonds hits 755 off Raphael Soriano and 756 will be against Buddy Carlyle.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:01 PM
Smoltz, then Hudson. And then I will weep.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:03 PM
This is assuming they are going to even play him a lot in Milwaukee…the Giants want these things to happen at Home…when he gets 754…he is sitting until he gets back so I will say 755 will be Wilfredo Ledesma and 756 vs Florida off of Taylor Tankersley…both situational lefthanders that will be brought in to face Bonds.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:04 PM
Olsen, Willis, in whichever order they actually pitch.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:05 PM
I am going to hold out faith that it goes a little further down the road. I say 755 off Smoltz and 756 off Brad Penny in the beginning of August in Los Angeles
July 20th, 2007 at 4:06 PM
I’m keeping Bush, but I hear Vargas throws like a girl.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:09 PM
755 off Turnbow. 756 into the Bay off Smoltz
July 20th, 2007 at 4:09 PM
If he does this off the Braves……We will know that baseball is fixed!
July 20th, 2007 at 4:15 PM
Hey DC, if its fixed, I bet you Jerry Crawford will be working the game.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:17 PM
755: Claudio Vargas
756: Peter Moylan
July 20th, 2007 at 4:24 PM
Everyone is wrong. He takes a fastball to the side of the knee and hangs up his cleats.
A nation rejoices.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:24 PM
755 against Smoltz
756 against James
God willing there will be some incident that prevents either of these being hit EVER
July 20th, 2007 at 4:25 PM
755 off of Vargas, 756 off Derrick Turnbow. YOUR TIME IS UP, TURNBOW.
July 20th, 2007 at 4:27 PM
Since he still needs 1 before 755, I bet he gets one in the next few games (at MIL or vs. ATL). Then, assuming Olsen is one of the three projected starters, I’ll go with 755 there. Then he’ll get the freeze and sit a couple away games and take 756 off of a Nationals pitcher at home. I wanted to go all the way to Pittsburgh, but that’s too many games.
755 – Scott Olsen
756 – Simontacchi
July 20th, 2007 at 4:27 PM
Suppan, Bush. 2 games, 2 HRs
July 20th, 2007 at 4:28 PM
If there is any justice in this cruel world he will never make it…his legs are going to fall off after rounding second on 755
July 20th, 2007 at 4:30 PM
755 – Chuck James
756 – Buddy Carlysle
July 20th, 2007 at 4:30 PM
755: Derrick Turnbow
756: Rafael Soriano
July 20th, 2007 at 4:33 PM
755 – Chad Paronto
756 – Tyler Yates
Both in the same game.

What’s up! Due to the nature of your site I thought this video would interest you. It’s by Super Deluxe and its about Barry Bonds and his recent dilemma with steroids.
It’s A Wonderful Game
Description:
Sure, he’s on the cusp of breaking Hank Aaron’s home run record. But the guilt has to be getting to Barry Bonds. Perhaps Bud Selig can show him what a wonderful game it is-doped up or not!

Bush, the Smotz. One thing about Smoltz–he won’t back down from Bonds.

He’ll never hit another..wishful thinking
755 – David Bush
756 – Rafael Soriano
July 20th, 2007 at 4:53 PM
Wanting to tie and break the record at home, Bonds hits singles and doubles all weekend. He returns to SF and Smoltz ends his career with a fastball high and inside.
July 20th, 2007 at 5:07 PM
755 – Turnbow
756 – Hudson

Coming from a Brewers fan, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Barry hit a bunch of homers here and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him not hit any. The Giants were just here June 18-20 with Barry going a combined 1-6 with 3 BB’s and 0 HR’s. Then again, he appears to be heating up. So who knows. I’m curious to see what the fan reaction will be. There was a good amount of booing when he came up to bat last time around and much cheering when he failed to get a hit. The ol’ wwl seems to think Milwaukee will cheer if he hits one…I’m not so sure.

Vargas- HGH # 755
Smoltz HGH # 756
I’m tempted by the fact that Smoltz has some sense of class and wont want to end up in the history books, but god dammit I think he’s to stubborn to give Joe Morgans love child a free pass to first.
TBL- whats the consolation if barry gets kerrigan’d in the parking lot and doesnt hit the record until 2011? Maybe a shout out to my cousin Ray Ray in Pelican Bay? just sayin…

Even as a Braves fan, I’ll be happy even if he does it against us.
755: Peter Moylan
756: Chuck James (doesnt he just SOUND like the guy whose gonna give it up. James delivers….AND THERE’S A HIGH FLY BALL DEEP TO…..)

By the way, Bonds hitting 756 in LA would be great for Bonds haters. LA is the one place on the road I can guarantee you would be the worst possible crowd. They’ve been booing Bonds since before it was cool.
