Definitely agree with studying something else and then getting into journalism professionally. It’s better to specialize in a topic and learn how to write than to know how to write and be ignorant.

Neil Best is awesome…Long Islanders love their Newsday and he makes the Sports Media beat entertaining to read about. His blog is awesome and definitely is the how to in Newspaper sponsored blogs. TO equate his hot button issue to TBL (Bonds) he has Imus and who will replace him. When he mentioned in his column and blog that he would no longer follow the Imus situation because Boomer Esiason was getting the job the commenters went nuts and he had to back track, explain himself and promise to keep an eye on it in a very funny and entertaining way. I check his blog as much as this and more than Deadspin. He truly is the man.

I read Best growing up on Long Island when he was a beat writer. Always liked his style and always sensed that he was just a guy having fun covering sports and sharing it with the readers. When that comes through on paper, you know the writer has talent.

I’ve been a fan of Neil’s for more than a few years, having followed him on the Giants’ beat and his stint on the fantastic “Giants Online” show, which is now going to be reduced to an afterthought, but that’s neither here nor there. Hopefully, he’ll continue to promote his rivalry with Glauber as to who gets more hits on his respective blog.

Having said that, Newsday’s blogs are being used exactly in the way I figured newspaper-related blogs should be used: to update breaking news that cannot wait for the publication of the next day’s paper. Great job by them.

And kudos to TBL for a good interview.
