Phillies 5, Braves 3: Philadelphia takes two of three from Atlanta, leapfrogging the Braves in the tight NL East. Washington and Pittsburgh are up next for Ryan Howard’s crew, and there’s little room for error with Utley down until September.

New York 5, Cleveland 3: After hammering hopeless AL squads, the Yankees went into the Jake and swept the Indians and their supposedly powerful offense. The Tribe scored six runs in the series, and Grady Sizemore was 2-for-11 (though Hafner was injured and did not play). The Yanks now have a better record than the Mets.

Arizona 6, Washington 7: The hottest team in baseball finally choked away a game, as the Nationals rallied from a five-run deficit late. We’re still shocked the D-Backs are three up in the NL West, but absolutely nobody is talking about these guys.

Baltimore 6, Boston 3, 10 innings: Red Sox drop two of three on the road, allowing the searing-hot Yankees to draw within four games in the AL East. Fortunately, there’s a brief respite ahead – the Tampa Bay Cupcakes visit Fenway next. Eric Gagne, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

St. Louis 12, Los Angeles 2: After belting two homers Saturday, feel-good story Rick Ankiel only doubled Sunday, but they didn’t need his offense in the rout. The Dodgers putrid offense scored five runs in three games.
