Gametime: Where in the World is Stephen A. Smith?
Uncategorized September 10th. 2007, 1:21pm
Anyone seen the guy? Ever since he was publicly shamed by his newspaper, the Philly Inquirer, the guy has been MIA. Did he take the general assignment demotion? Quit? We haven’t been listening to ESPN radio during the day (sorry, we only check in with Rome at night), so we don’t know if he’s been doing his radio show. Best we can tell, he hasn’t written for the paper since Aug. 17, and there hasn’t been much NBA news happening, so he hasn’t been called upon to drop some hoops knowledge on the masses over at the WWL.
If anyone knows what’s going on, we’d love to know.
Also, from the media file … something about Cowherd and Simmons, another blogger was in Bristol to chat with ESPN brass, and Steve Czaban rips ESPN.

I don’t understand why this “lack of Steven Asshole Smith” is post worthy. The less Steven A…the better the world and human race is as a whole.

Tell that to Starbury, who misses the biting yet necessary bantering with SAS.

One would guess that Simmons has been replaced by Cowherd because Simmons started a Pigskin Pick’em contest for readers.

he’s still yelling on the airwaves at 1050 am.

Re Czaban’s point:
ESPN does a 1 hour college football recap on Sunday morning, but you have to be a diehard fan to get up at 7:30 ET (or Tivo it). This is still preferable to watching the crappy SportsCenter/OTL/Lupica/Berman programming the remainder of Sunday mornings.

So I’m listening to ESPN radio as I’m driving home, and Cowherd comes back from a break talking about Britney Spears and some appearence at a awards show last night. He says, and I quote-”I was reading…um watching a youtube video of her performance.” Hmmmm…could that have been a slip? Was he reading this http://thebiglead.com/?p=3105

GenghisSchmenghis, you either have to be die-hard or have a 3 year old… 7:30 is sleeping in for me on the weekends :’(

cowherd doesn’t actually watch anything, a fact that’s apparent after 15 minutes of listening to him…sports related or not.

Jeff,
The funny thing is, I believe Czaban has a 3 year old daughter.

Asking where SAS ran off to is like wondering why you haven’t been kicked in the balls recently. Don’t question it, just enjoy it.

Stephen A has been filling in on the Steve Harvey Morning Show for the past few weeks while Steve Harvey was on Vacation. Not bad doing other things besides sports talk!

I think I’ll listen to SportsTalk 980 today to hear about who? The Redskins. I’ll listen next week to hear about who? The Redskins. I’ll listen in February to hear about what? What free agents is Dan Snyder going to overpay for this year. I’ll listen in March and April to hear about what? Redskin draft prospects or which draft spots the Burgundy and Gold can trade away to obtain Troy Vincent. Clean your own house first Czaban. Maybe you can even find a Homer Simpson quote to get you motivated.

Steven A Smith is appraently no longer welcoming us all to his house anytime…

The last I heard was that he was on vacation when all of this went down. A month is a pretty long vacation though.

Rick- Or perhaps he read that on one of the other 1.5 million blogs that posted on Britney in the last twenty four hours…

SAS was just on Cold Pizza…er, I mean ESPN First Take last week. Thursday, I believe. He and Skip nearly killed each other over their respective NFL picks.
Yes, I was actually watching First Take. I was bored during lunch.

During the whole Simmons/Cowherd thing, Cowherd always seemed to handle himself with more class. Cowherd wasn’t taking a shot at Simmons. He was taking a shot at the idea of trading Kobe, and Cowherd still to this day says he’s a big fan of Simmons’ work. Simmons, on the other hand, handled it like a 12-year old guy and has had an axe to grind ever since. I’d hate to see what he thinks of other people when they disagree with his other points.

SAS was on Sportscenter last weekend, which was notable because the two anchors (Ley and McKendry) were seated while Josh E. and SAS were standing awkwardly for the final shot, like a posed yearbook photo or something. So he’s still getting his worldwide leader on.
