Lock of the Week: Brady Quinn Will Start Sunday
Uncategorized September 10th. 2007, 12:02pm
When does Brady Quinn put down the clipboard, take off the headset, and take the wheel of that jalopy known as the Cleveland Browns? Now, dammit. It must be now. Up next is Cincinnati, a team that ranked 30th of 32 in defense last year, and was tied for last against the pass. Here’s the bonus of putting Quinn in now: it’s a home game. If you’re targeting week three against Oakland, it’s a road game, and though the Raiders are terrible, that can be hostile territory. Plus, it’ll give Quinn two starts before the Ravens maul him. We’ve been beating this drum since the preseason, and we’re no longer alone. This message board is funny. And if Romeo wants to make it through half the season, he better make the move. It looks like he’s at least considering the switch, which is a step in the right direction. Pressue from fans will force his hand this week. Watch.

Lock of the Week: Quinn or no Quinn, the Browns still stink.
September 10th, 2007 at 12:20 PM
That was a tough one and the sky is blue, grass is green and the sun rises in the East lol

Do people really think he’s gonna turn the season around? That bag of suck isn’t getting any better with Mrs. Brady behind center. If fans just want him to get in there so he can take his lumps, that’s one thing. But I hope they’re not so delusional, that they think he’ll make the Browns a much better team. As far as Romeo keeping his job, he isn’t gonna get any points if they’re 2-6 with Brady starting, as opposed to 2-6 with Frye or Anderson starting. He’s pretty much a wrap regardless.

As a Cowboys fan, I’m all for starting Quinn this weekend.
September 10th, 2007 at 12:53 PM
i dont care who plays QB. the Bengals will beat the browns by two TD’s

I would love to see Quinn play.
They have this cool feature on Sunday Ticket that shows player alerts when a big play happens.
I can see it now, I play the Ravens defense in Week 4, the TV blows up with the constant update of “Quinn sacked, loss 8 yds” …

No reason to get Mrs. Quinn injured like they did with Tim Couch. Or simply destroyed careerwise like the Texans did with Carr. You should only play the guy right away if you can protect him. And yeah, Crennel’s done. Has been for a while, they just don’t want to pay him not to coach.

Can people please shut up about Brady Quinn? You know he plays for the freaking BROWNS, right? You know they aren’t winning ANYTHING anytime soon, right? So who cares? Where’s the hubbub over starting JaMarcus Russell or Kellen Clemens or Kelly Holcomb?
September 10th, 2007 at 1:50 PM
This is like debating when the first overall pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates will start his first game.
September 10th, 2007 at 1:53 PM
This is all going to work out in favor of Dallas, they will start Quinn early, won’t win a game, and Dallas gets their first pick…what a stupid fucking move by Savage last year…
September 10th, 2007 at 1:59 PM
i dont know why this was a stupid move by savage. he traded a pick that will be high for a player that he feels was worth a high pick anyways. he saw a chance to get a good player and he took it. I for one liked it because it showed he was sick of waiting to make an impact. Finally someone on the brwons taking a risk to better the team.
go browns
September 10th, 2007 at 2:01 PM
JaMarcus Russell still hasn’t signed, hence the reason there’s no hubbub over that.

Quinn is not starting next week. Thats the word out of the Cleveland medias mouth. After reviewing several articles online through the plain dealers website it appears that Crennel is going to start Derek Anderson? again.
Personally that makes absolutely zero sense. Cincinatti at Cleveland Browns stadium, with that Cincinatti pass defense would seem like a great recipe for a Quinn start but Crennel must not like his job so he’s going with the great Derek Anderson instead.
And to Super5. Regardless of the pick that Dallas recieves as compensation for last years #1 pick, is their a QB coming out in this years draft that any team would take over Quinn?
Your top choices are Brian Brohm(chad pennington), Colt Brennan(timmy chang), John David Booty(Ryan Leaf), Chad Henne(Appy St), or Matt Ryan(best of the bunch). Looks to me like Savage looked ahead and actually made a brilliant move knowing that the Browns franchise would be looking QB in the 08 draft and noticed that Quinn would be better than any available.
So, even had they kept that pick they would have needed to throw away the 08 season as well when acclimating a new QB to the NFL, instead of doing that this year with Quinn.
Your point was rather feable, and made as much sense as Britney having a microphone during her “performance” last night at the MTV VMA’s.

super5 made a great argument about savages “stupid fucking pick” oh whats that you say? he didnt make any argument at all.

Lock of the Week: Brady Quinn is not starting in week two. The team has more wrong with it than the stellar QB play and putting him in the starting line-up will do more harm than good.
September 10th, 2007 at 2:51 PM
So what would it take to turn the Browns around? Eventually the Bengals, Patriots and it looks like the Niners and Cardinals are starting to turn themselves around. What have the Browns been doing wrong? They have a decent set of WRs…ummm, they have….an owner and fan base that doesn’t expect much. I just don’t understand how a team can consistently do as bad as they are.
September 10th, 2007 at 3:09 PM
honestly looking back at the browns game i think they will be much better with brady playing. The line played well, dont be fooled by fryes 5 sacks. he hold onto the ball too long instead of throwing it away. jamal was ineffective because we were donw so fast we had to pass a lot more. defense was tired and worn out by the ineffective play of derek and charlie. but the linebackers played well, willie parker didnt go nuts. Quarterback and d line are the most important areas of improvement for the browns.
go browns

On behalf of Browns fans everywhere…
PLEASE SAVE US COACH COWHER!!!!
September 10th, 2007 at 3:28 PM
or coach shott(v2.0)
September 10th, 2007 at 3:59 PM
mmonast if you honestly believe that trading for pick #23 for Brady Quinn, is worth what will be a possible top three pick is ridiculous…Brian Brohm is a much better prospect then Brady Quinn, and if you don’t realize that then watch a louisville game
September 10th, 2007 at 4:00 PM
Also not only was it a horrible move, it makes the cowboys that much better, whichi obviously pisses me off more then what is happening in Cleveland, because really who give a shit
September 10th, 2007 at 4:02 PM
TomSellecksMustache if you think that Brian Brohm throws like noodle arm pennington, then you need to watch more college football, the kid has a gun and has been getting better every year
September 10th, 2007 at 4:18 PM
Super5:
brady will be ready to go this year or next at best. who knows how he will do, i personally believe he will do pretty well. Now say the browns didnt trade their pick and take brohm next year, then they are a year or 2 more away from using him. I credit savage for thinking about now and doing what he felt necessary to be competitive sooner than later.
now you might not think that waiting for next season and drafting BB and developing him over 1-2 years is a big deal but to a browns fan its always “wait till next year when we draft ____” savage was thinking short term and pulled the trigger.
we dont know what we can get out of brady but then again no one knows what the NFL will get out of BB either.
September 10th, 2007 at 4:23 PM
I understand that you like Brady, I think the main reason I am pissed with the move by Savage, is because he did it with the Cowboys, and I am an Eagles fan…I agree with your comments on Brian Brohm, no one knows what to expect, but he, just like Brady, has been playing in a pro style offense for four years now, and hasn’t laid eggs on the big stages throughout his career…if by some miracle the Atlanta Falcons get the first pick, and Brohm goes back with Petrino, he will be an extremley successful QB…but whoever said he is Chad Pennington I still disagree with, strongest arm in college football
September 10th, 2007 at 4:29 PM
I wonder if ESPN thinks he should be the starter.
September 10th, 2007 at 4:29 PM
i also disagree with the weak arm comment…guy throws bombs. With brady people tend to forget that at ND he had an awful defense that caused him to lose those big games. to the best of my memory he played badly against GT last year but in those other big games he played pretty well. My best example is against USC he won the game then he terrible defense(long pass to a wide open WR) a terrible spot with the ut of bounds fumble(as time expired as well) and a reggie bush push to lose that game.
they hold on to win he loses that “cant win big games” moniker and people think he is the real deal.
sorry to do business with your hated cowboys…i hate those fuckers too.
September 10th, 2007 at 4:39 PM
Good way to close a comment, goddman cowboys, I think Brady has a lot of potential, but due to Charli Weis talking him up people are going to expect the most outta him right away…and with the defenses in your division, and the poor oline play, it’s going to be tough…as far as big game performances, he was awful agaisnt OSU two years back…thats all i really remember
September 10th, 2007 at 5:02 PM
He couldn’t do too much in the Fiesta Bowl when the ND o-line was giving him 0.4 seconds of protection every pass play. Same with the Sugar Bowl last year. The problem with ND always being put into bowl games they couldn’t win means that Quinn, as the QB, gets stuck with the “loser” tag. But honestly, the whole team was always over-matched. ND fans travel well, and then the rest of the country wants to see them lose – that’s why his teams were always put in big games against dominant opponents. So I think everyone should hold off on calling him a savior or bust until he plays some in the NFL.
I think the Browns made a good choice considering how late they were able to pick him up. That will be the steal of the ‘07 draft if he pans out.
Oh, and the Cowboys may get a high pick next year out of it, but I still can’t stand them and they won’t win jack with that horrible coach.
September 10th, 2007 at 5:07 PM
Cole well said, fuck the cowboys
September 10th, 2007 at 10:59 PM
Romeo-do you hear that clock ticking? That’s your career going bye bye each week Quinn sits out on the sidelines.
