Screamin’ A: Blows Off Paper, Yet Does Sports Reporters
Uncategorized September 17th. 2007, 9:31am
Thanks to an eagle-eyed reader, we’ve got a Stephen A. Smith update! To anyone who follows the sports media industry (read: all three of you), his very public demotion last month at the Philadelphia Inquirer had us wondering last week where the heck he was. (Best guess: snuggled up with a bag of cheetos in his million-dollar pad.) The Philly Daily News has the goods: Screamin’ A. ‘extended his leave‘ (read: chewed up all unused vacation days while pondering lawsuit) and then just didn’t show up for work Friday. Naturally, he showed up for his Sports Reporters gig on Sunday morning.
We keep getting told that this is far from over, but we don’t exactly know what that means. But we’ll say this – it won’t be easy firing a prominent black sports columnist, even though there seems to be ample evidence (ESPN radio gig, Sports Reporters, egregious factual errors) to do so.

I bet you that Stephen A. Smith has a theory about why Demetrius Jones transferred from Notre Dame to Northern Illinois.
Here’s a hint: Scoop Jackson probably has the same theory.

Just to point out, he introudced himself as “Stephen A. Smith of ESPN Radio”. No mention of a newspaper.

I’m surprised he hasn’t already just made the jump to ESPN.com like everyone else.

I thought he was hosting a public access show in New York, subject mattah, WHY IS IT THAT THE BLACK GUY DIES FIRST IN ALLL THE MOVIES!!?!?!

If their theory is because he feels like he is better than the guy who replaced him, then they’re probably right.

I agree, Darrell, but it’s never that easy.

The fact that Stephen A’s black doesn’t really have anything to do with the fact that he’s a horrible sports reporter for the Inquirer and every arguement he makes is racially biased. I can’t wait for him to throw the race card out on the table…it’ll just be pure entertainment.

I erased this week’s edition of The Sports Reporters as soon as I saw who was on. I can barely stomach that show without Steven A. With him? Ew.

you’d hope that espn would realize how much he sucks. but as usual they’ll probably be the last to know. if he was white, he’d have been fired a long time ago.

Well yea he woulda been fired for being a racist….not for sucking as a journalist though…ESPN has no shame in promoting talentless jackasses…there’s no other explanation for woody paige and skip bayless

I think it would be more humilating and a lot funnier if the Inquirer didn’t fire Steven A, but instead just had all their other writers submit stories on how horrible of a journalist Steven A actually is. And all the articles HAD DO BE WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS IN AN ATTEMPT TO MIMICK HIS VOICE.
