College Football Picks You Need Not Pay Attention To
Uncategorized September 27th. 2007, 3:12pm
Weak college football lineup this weekend, and that’s probably a good thing, since sports fans everywhere will be paying attention to the tense National League pennant races. Another mediocre showing for us last week, as we went 4-7. There’s no rhyme or reason to what games we select, and as always, the usual disclaimers apply.
No. 5 West Virginia at No. 18 South Florida – This is where our bias comes in – we want the Mountaineers to reach the title game. If we had balls, we’d take South Florida. But we watch Gossip Girl, so obviously, we don’t. WVU is a seven-point favorite, and if we were betting, we’d totally take USF. WVU 31, USF 30.
No. 21 Penn State at Illinois – The Nittany Lions were exposed on the road last week, but the Illini haven’t beaten anyone good. Until now. PSU 17, Illinois 20.
Notre Dame at Purdue – Two thoughts – Purdue in a massive blowout, or the Boilermakers never get on track and the Irish get lucky. When was the last time the Irish were a three-touchdown dog? Purdue gets going late, rallies to win, 30-24.
No. 3 Oklahoma at Colorado – Another three-touchdown dog we like. The Buffs haven’t beaten the Sooners since 1999, and won’t this year. But it’ll be surprisingly close. Oklahoma 34, Colorado 21.
No. 22 Alabama at Florida State – Tough for us to pick against the Seminoles at home in the State, although these definitely aren’t Charlie Ward’s Noles. FSU 24, Alabama 20.
No. 6 California at No. 11 Oregon: We’d be floored if there wasn’t over 900 yards of total offense or 50 points. Three of the last four have been close, and the home team has won the last four in the series. The trend continues – Oregon 38, Cal 31.

I can’t wait to be in Champaign on Saturday…first big home game in 5 years!

That’s going to be an OU home game. Easily more OU fans than CU fans. OU puts up 40 at least and I’m not sure CU is capable of scoring 20 points against live competition.

i can’t decide between wvu and south florida. wvu SHOULD win but south florida is damned tough at home.
the last time penn state lost a close game at michigan with a strong defense, they crushed illinois on the road the next week by 50-some points. i don’t see illinois winning. if penn state had won last week, yeah. but not after a penn state loss.
as an fsu season ticket holder, when are people going to get off the fsu bandwagon? fsu doesn’t have charlie ward, warrick dunn, derrick brooks, deion, chris weinke or peter warrick.
fsu has drew weatherford and a bunch of stiffs on offense. put your cash on bama. this ain’t your older brother’s fsu dynasty.
i do think the ducks take cal. that cal home win over tenn. doesn’t look so impressive in retrospect.

Go USF!!!! Even though everyone here in town thinks they probably won’t win, I am still rooting for them to!

No way Illinois beats PSU. PSU was not “exposed” against Michigan. Michigan was/is the better team.
PSU 27
Illinois 17
Purdue is not going to start slow. Purdue scored more points in the first half of each of its first 3 games than ND has scored all season. Purdue averages 48 points per game, ND has scored 27 all season.
Boilermakers 41
Irish 10
Oklahoma big over Colorado. Alabama over FSU. I agree Oregon over Cal.
These picks look very crappy TBL. We will see how they play out.

We left that last PSU @ Illinois game (Homecoming I think) when it was 35-3 just minutes into the 2nd quarter to head back to the tailgating spot…that’s why we scheduled teams like Ohio and Ball State for Homecoming the past 2 years. But we also got hammered by like 50 the next week by Michigan State too. That was just a terrible squad with no talent. I’m not saying Illinois is going to win, but no way it’ll be a blowout. I wish it was a later game so more people could check out some of the talent Zook has brought in.

Also, Purdue is ranked #25.

TBL…you do know that the game with FREE SHOES U and Bama is in Jacksonville and not Tallahassee! NEUTRAL SITE AND TICKETS!

What gatorman 23 said, with less yelling.
The Bama/FSU game is in Jacksonville.

Lock of the weekend:
Tennessee 0
Bye 0
Defense finally steps up for the Vols but the recievers drop every pass that Ainge’s busted pinky actually gets within 5 yards of them. UT will be lucky to make it out with a tie.

Oregon 49 Cal 38
Purdue 38 ND 14
I don’t care about the others except I hope OK loses.

After looking at your picks, its not hard to see why you went 7-4.
WVU 48-USF 34 close game until WVU pulls away late.
PSU 34-Ill 13 Not even as close as the score says.
Purdue 41-ND 17 too much purdue Off
Bama27 – Noles-10 Satan + D. Weatherford + neutral field = beat down
OSU 45- Buffs 13 big day for bradford
Ducks 52 – Cal 41 D. Jackson makes Heisman type plays, but dixon & co proves too much
September 27th, 2007 at 4:39 PM
7-4 = 4-7…stupid dyslexia
September 27th, 2007 at 4:45 PM
Purdue blows, still crushes ND but they suck. When will voters learn to exclude purdue until they start facing real teams? they let minnesota score 31!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
theyll feel awesome right before OSU comes in and chokes the shit out of them.

I keep reading how “experts” are predicting a close USF/WVU game, and perhaps even a USF outright victory.
So I’m going with West Virginia 41-20.
But in their defense, I should have listened to the experts last week when they said Michigan would beat Penn State outright.
September 27th, 2007 at 4:55 PM
Watch Auburn make it interesting against Florida, by the way.
September 27th, 2007 at 5:08 PM
oddib are you nuts. Auburn sucks rocks and the game is in the SWAMP! Plus payback for last years game. Remember Auburn was the only team to beat Florida last year and keep them from a perfect season!
September 30th, 2007 at 1:37 AM
Nice prediction Gatorman21…Auburn 20, Gators 17…ooooooooooooooops.

Nice job with the picks this week guys. 6-0 unless I missed something.
Colin Cowherd was 0-4 this weekend. He had Oregon, Oklahoma, USC and West Virginia.
