1 pm Games Recap: Browns and Lions Continue to Surprise
Uncategorized October 28th. 2007, 4:21pm
Cleveland 27, St. Louis 20: You know we’re in the midst of a wacky NFL season when the Browns are going on the road as a favorite, and winning. And covering! Down 14-0 early, Derek Anderson (!) rallied the Browns behind three TD passes, and Cleveland, somewhat shockingly improved to 4-3. St. Louis is 0-8.
Tennessee 13, Oakland 9: We continue to be amazed by the Titans, who are 5-2, with four of the wins by a total of 17 points. All together now: this team isn’t that good, and has only beaten one team with a winning record (Jacksonville, in the season opener). Culpepper drove the Raiders deep into Tennessee territory late in the fourth, but a sack and a few incompletions ended the threat.
Detroit 16, Chicago 7: Jon Soothsayer Kitna threw for 268 yards, Kevin Jones rushed for 105, and amazingly, the Lions completed a season sweep of the Bears. Detroit picked off Brian Griese four times and improved to 5-2, putting the Lions halfway to Kitna’s preseason prediction of 10 wins. And you laughed when we picked these guys to finish second in the division. Cedric Benson rushed for 50 yards.
Indianapolis 31, Carolina 7: Two weeks to prepare for the Indy defense and this is all the Panthers coaching staff could come up with? Addai caught a TD pass and rushed for two more. Carolina’s weird season continues: 0-3 at home, 4-0 on the road. And yes, they were our Super Bowl pick. Losing their top two QBs certainly hasn’t helped.
Pittsburgh 24, Cincinnati 13: So much for our upset pick. Big Ben threw two TD passes to Hines Ward and Willie Parker rushed for 126 yards. The Bengals were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, even though they are only 2-5.
New York Giants 13, Miami 10: Knew something was up. Knew it! The line on this game stayed at -9.5 all week, and the idiotic Giants – due for a letdown – played as if they didn’t want to be in London. Eli Manning was just 8-for-22 for 59 yards. As you can tell, we bet on the Giants. Miami’s 0-8 but Jesse Chatman looked impressive at RB, posting 100 yards of total offense.
Philadelphia 23, Minnesota 16: Had to figure the Eagles were due. The Brooks Bollinger/Kelly Holcomb combo couldn’t cut it for the Vikings, and 20 carries isn’t nearly enough for Adrian Peterson. David Akers hit three field goals, McNabb threw a TD pass and Westbrook rushed for one as Philly improved to 3-4.

braylon edwards ran an absolute clinic in the rams/browns game. Every type of difficult catch you could think of: getting pushed out and keeping your toes in, diving and coming back to the ball, going up for jump balls, everything…it was unreal. granted the ball he did drop was a perfectly thrown slant route that he just brain farted on.

I have no ties to the Titans but if Jeff Fisher isn’t a top 5 coach I don’t know who is. He hasn’t had dick to work with for the last few years and every year they surprise people and are much better than people thought. At least it seems that way.
When are the Bears going to go back to Rex?
4 picks against the Lions D? Quick, someone name some Detroit defenders?

Vince Young just knows how to win.

The maturation of Braylon Edwards – and Derek Anderson – is rapidly becoming a great NFL storyline. Romeo for Pres!

Tell me that picture really happened. Good thing the game was in London cuz if Joe Buck’s announcing his heart probably explodes.

It will be a crime if Brad Childress has a job after this year.
The Browns squeaked by the god-awful 0-8 Rams. Whoop-de-damn-doo! I will admit that Braylon Edwards is a beast though. Maybe they can put him on defense too.
Man, up by 38 in the 4th quarter and the Pats go for it on 4th down. Now they’ve just thrown for another TD. Someone’s wife is getting a serious boning by Bellichick tonight.

What about Mangenius? I just had to watch the BILLS come into the Meadowlands and undress the Jets, 13-3. THe play calling was awful. How can you get swept by the BILLS?
Gotta say Lee Evans had, without question, the catch of the day. 85-yard TD grab, and it’s sweet.

As a Raiders fan I got to say 2-5 is probably where I thought we’d be at best prior to the start of the season. Get asshat Culpepper out and put in Fat’s nephew. The season is done. Somehow, beating up on a wretched Dolphins team gave Culpepper some sort of clout.
I do not understand the Vike’s inability to get Peterson the ball. I haven’t seen them more than once, but … crap, they’ve got nothing else.
Quinn Snyder Coke Binge – Ahhh, great moniker. Apparently, you are privy to the same stories we know here in Kansas/Missouri. Hell, you may live down around here and had his stripper sloopy seconds. Nice name, nonetheless. Basically, he’s Mike Price with equal pussy but more drugs. The geniuses at Mizzou knew this and kept him around. Gotta love MU. Dumbasses try so hard to ruin their own athletic department.

TBL,
You can’t expect any coach to win consistently without good quarterback play, and if Mangini has taken a step back this year, Chad Pennington has taken 10. As good as Pennington was last year, that’s how bad he’s been this year. (Is there an anti-Comeback Player of the Year award?) I’m reserving judgment on Mangini until the Jets get a real quarterback in there–like, say, Kellen Clemens, who looks to be the starter for next week.

@KC Resident:
Thanks. I’m actually a student at MU who was “lucky” enough to cover The Medicine Woman in his final, atrocious season. The best story I heard involved him, a few female co-eds, the VIP section in a local bar, and lots and LOTS of cocaine. Needless to say, glad his ass is gone. At least Alden was smart enough to hire his polar opposite in Anderson.

Random Thoughts about 2008 – Quarterback Carousel Edition
Brady Quinn traded to Miami…would you give up Derek Anderson?
Daunte Culpepper to Chicago….or Maybe Vince Evans unretires
Donavan McNabb to Atlanta…Mike Vick without the Dog Fighting
Kurt Warner to Minnesota….They do have Turf there right?
Chad Pennington to the Chiefs….Hes a “Herm” Guy
Patrick Ramsay to the 49ers…Alex Smith is no Steve Young
Its gonna happen….speaking of its gonna happen….ARod Opts out…Girardi to Manage?
God I hope Arod goes to the Cubs!

Michael Turner could be helping alot of teams right now…Bears, Miami, Green Bay…I would fire my agent if I was Michael Turner…there are too many starting opportunities to be sitting there in clean up time behind LT….Kevin Jones, Cedric Bensen, and Brandon Jacobs are starters but Turners a backup???
Somthings wrong here.

And again, where are all the Chicago fans that kept spouting off about how great the team was gonna be? I clearly remember people saying things like ‘Cedric Benson easily gets 1500 yards this year’ and ‘Chicago has an easy road to the Super Bowl, based on strength of schedule’. Brian Griese just made the Lions defense look like the ‘85 Bears. I know the Lions still probably aren’t as good as they appear to be (as a lifelong Lion fan, I’ve been burned before), but they still came into Soldier Field, one of the ‘hardest places to play’, and beat the defending NFC champs-who are gonna be watching the playoffs from at home this year. Boo-Yah!!
