The Roundup: Texas Tech Coach Fined $10,000, the Gay-ish Hockey Photos, and NASCAR Ratings Down
Uncategorized November 15th. 2007, 8:07am
If you saw the last episode of Friday Night Lights, you’ve seen this women before: it’s the luscious Kim Smith … a reader found the NY Magazine article that sparked the movie, American Gangster … there’s a college basketball player on New Mexico St. named Fred Peete, and hearing that name reminds us of this classic SNL skit … when the hell are the airports going to get it right? … yeah, Jonny Flynn is off to a hot start, but to compare him to Tebow? … anyone else going to watch The Office (last episode until the strike’s over – sucks!) and then check out the Democratic debate? This is really the first election we’ve ever cared about, and it’s certainly an important one, based on where the country is right now (war, potential recession, etc) …
ESPN is dominating the cable TV ratings. (Media Week)
Those blasted cable companies are going to cost us NFL games. (NY Times)
Not only did the four-letter get one of the Game of Shadows writers, but they’ve also plucked another steroid guy, TJ Quinn of the NY Daily News. (Editor & Publisher)
Remember that Mike Leach rant we told you about Monday? Still haven’t seen video, but it’s probably awesome, because he got fined $10,000. (Dallas Morning News)
Awesome yet absolutely NSFW video of Aubrey Huff and a buck naked chick on some radio show. (Deadspin)
Sensing that the Ducks are about to get shafted when it comes to the BCS Title game. (College Game Balls)
Finally, the Blackhawks are on local TV! (Rumors and Rants)
NASCAR ratings continue a downward descent. (USA Today)
This is the blogger who got an NHL player in the gay photos snafu. (Is This Happening)
A QB myth that needed debunking. (Fox Sports)
Cristiano Ronaldo’s hot ex-girlfriend is going to rough it in the wildnerness for a reality show. (This is Extra Time)
Two losses in a row and they want to Fire Joe Gibbs. (DC Sports Bog)
Manny Ramirez sold his souped-up ride for $42,000 on eBay. (Inside Track)
Five of the best Michigan-OSU games, and we personally guarantee Saturday’s affair will not make this list. (Eleven Warriors)
Quite funny, but also harsh: Emmanuel Lews kind of looks like Isiah Thomas. (Shoot Your Hopes and Dreams)

Mike Golic just spent about 5 minutes in their previous radio segment talking about how he took steroids for about 5 weeks during the offseason of his 3rd or 4th year in the NFL. Maybe I missed something, but I’ve never heard this revelation before.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:22 AM
Golic mentioned that he juiced a couple of weeks ago, also. He’s been remarkably candid.
Leave Webster alone!
November 15th, 2007 at 8:28 AM
Oh my Kim Smith looks hot there.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:29 AM
Golic is the fat one right? So the gay one didn’t juice? Anyway I think this weekends UofM v OSU game will be great. They both have the Rose Bowl to play for and Lloyd has his legacy to think about. I look forward to this game every year if not for the recruiting ramifications alone. The one thing I can say in defense of Lloyd, which I heard on local radio yesterday, is that he has never had a losing record in his tenure (and that really is something if you think about it) and he has never had any scandal at all (again OSU indeed has) so Lloyd did it the right way. I don’t believe Michigan is doing it all honest, but you have to be found guilty and they have yet to be… so that is a little something in defense of the bitter old man.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:29 AM
I’m definitely not doggin’ Golic for juicing. If I was a fringe guy in pro sports, I would have done it to make a few million. I was just a little surprised with the honesty.
November 15th, 2007 at 8:34 AM
Say what you will about the douchiness of the Mike & Mike show, Golic has turned himself into a decent TV/radio guy. When he’s on SportsCenter doing NFL segments, he contributes worthwhile comments and does so without stumbling over his words.

@ Mike B
as opposed to, say, Emmitt Smith?
November 15th, 2007 at 8:46 AM
when it comes to talking about gettting shafted for the BCS title game, do you really think if Kansas stays undefeated they will be in it
November 15th, 2007 at 8:48 AM
If you listened to Golic, you missed Joe Francis calling in from jail on the Howard Stern show. Funny stuff. Francis is a jackass and they don’t give him TP. He said he washes his rear with water and ‘his hand.’
November 15th, 2007 at 9:02 AM
The Francis interview was great. What a douche.
Also, I bet Mrs. Huff is loving that video. “Hey, Aubrey honey, how did that girl’s neck taste?” SMACK!
November 15th, 2007 at 9:24 AM
@Magglio – Exactly! The gap between competent ESPN NFL commentators and incompetent ones is so wide right now, it’s pathetic.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:28 AM
I’ll definitely be watching the scripted season finale(?) of The Office, but I will most definitely NOT be watching the scripted (hello Hillary) Democratic presidential debate.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:29 AM
That “QB Myth Debunking” article is total bullshit…he’s only using the QB rating system which is terribly outdated and is slanted towards high completion percentages (which noodle armed guys like Jeff Garcia thrive with)
November 15th, 2007 at 9:34 AM
I would give half a nut to have Noodle-arm Garcia back on the Niners right now.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:37 AM
Kansas will most certainly make up the gap on Oregon and LSU and be one or two come bowl time because they will, in all likelihood, gone through two teams that are in the top 5. I personally don’t think they beat both Missouri and Oklahoma, but if they do, they will make it to at least number two.
I agree on Golic, he’s really come around and is in the ‘doesn’t suck’ list of ESPN personalities.
Damnit, I wish I could see the Huff video. Are we talking full on fucking or some kissing/petting?
November 15th, 2007 at 9:38 AM
The QB rating system is equal parts completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown percentage, and interception percentage.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:41 AM
Aubrey Huff is my idol.
November 15th, 2007 at 9:57 AM
Were you in a coma for 2004???
November 15th, 2007 at 10:00 AM
Yeah, that QB article was weak. There are only 5 star QB’s this year as opposed to 6, 5 years ago? And 11 from “his childhood?” Please
November 15th, 2007 at 10:07 AM
Redskins haven’t lost 2 in a row, they want Gibbs fired because he is so damn conservative.
Don’t like any of the candidates, just don’t want Hillary to win.
November 15th, 2007 at 10:13 AM
“Some radio show?”
Didn’t expect that from a Stern fan
November 15th, 2007 at 10:34 AM
that article on frank lucas is one of the most disturbing and graphic details ive ever read. just ridiculous.
November 15th, 2007 at 10:42 AM
TBL: FYI…the Skins haven’t lost 2 games in a row at any point this season. That may change this weekend, of course…
November 15th, 2007 at 10:59 AM
1. I’m a hockey fan and I never heard anything about these “gay” photos of that kid… when did all that happen?
2. That Joe Francis interview was crazy. I love when they’re discussing lawyer issues and Dominic comes on. He always sets everyone straight. The rest of the time, he’s annoying.
3. WIll there be a post about the officals “scandal” that’s causing OSU fans to flip out?
November 15th, 2007 at 11:11 AM
@ sportsgal
What? OSU fans in pain of any kind? I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
November 15th, 2007 at 11:22 AM
Magglio, you haven’t seen this?

No I hadn’t seen it. I like it!
Seriously though that would make no sense for any Big Ten official to screw over the #1 team in the nation that is also a Big Ten team… not to mention with that loss the big game this weekend has a bit less national attention. That being said I will still be D&D by 10 AM Saturday morning, definately.
November 15th, 2007 at 11:41 AM
it’s not saying that they were intentionally screwed, but were in fact screwed by a group on incompetence
November 15th, 2007 at 11:47 AM
So a ref blew a play dead too early? So what? Happens in just about every game I’ve ever seen.
November 15th, 2007 at 11:54 AM
I don’t think OSU has room to complain, they lost the game fair and square. If OSU’s defense would have stepped up and stopped Juice from running for multiple first downs in the last 8 minutes of the game, the outcome might have been different.

Football Outsiders would have a filed day with that QB article.
The was news to me as well until I heard Dennis Potvin talking about it on the radio and saying that NHL players should only party at a house of someone they know in this day and age of cell phone cameras and instant web publishing. I swear I have two girls that are no where near being teenagers and I just think I am going to tell them unless they are home expect to be on camera, it is the world we live in.

Has anyone ever come up with a website to hire someone?
Like, HireDennisGreen.com?

My boss wants to know what’s so bad about the Aubrey Huff Video?
Seriously….
Snoooooze!
