Al Jazeera YES Network Boots Tom Verducci
Uncategorized November 16th. 2007, 12:43pm
We’ll muse on A-Rod in a second, but first, some interesting news from the Watchdog: the YES Network would frequently use SI baseball guru Tom Verducci as a ‘baseball analyst.’ No mas. The Network has banned him for two things: 1) actual reporting (sacre bleu!) on the Yankees and scathing commentary on the Bombers for low-balling Torre and 2) the fact that he’s writing a book with Torre … who is now coaching the Dodgers. (We could agree with this point, except that Verducc’s column was accurate.) The YES Network is pure evil, and not just because it allows the Yanks to spend $200 million to field a team.
So, about that A-Rod fellow … anyone else like how smooth the Yanks were in piggybacking the Bonds news thus to ensure that smarmy Scott Boras getting humiliated in public would get buried in every sports section this morning? That’s crafty.

You’ve got it all wrong. Boras(s) arranged for the Bonds indictment to go down in the hopes that the rest of his clients wouldn’t find out about A-Rod.
November 16th, 2007 at 12:49 PM
Should we officially start calling him Borass for now on btw?
November 16th, 2007 at 1:03 PM
I was wondering. is A-Rod considered a “REAL” Yankee now that he has come back ?
November 16th, 2007 at 1:03 PM
I hate when you guys post links to sites that you need to be a registered member of to read the stinking story. I don’t want to subscribe to the LA Times and I am guessing most here don’t want to either.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:07 PM
If I were A-Rod I could careless about being a Real Yankee. There are 275 Million reasons not to care about being a Real Yankee.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:08 PM
TBL loves AROD so much he is in the banner
whose elses swing is that
i guess the basketball player is vince carter
November 16th, 2007 at 1:10 PM
The basketball player is obviously JR Rider.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:11 PM
I’m actually glad the Yankees kept him. I’m all for continuity in the age of free agency. Plus, this ensures that Fire Joe Morgan will have another 10 years of material to work with.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:13 PM
Why would the Yankees want to do anything to help Boras?
November 16th, 2007 at 1:15 PM
Wrong and Wrong on the banner pics, people
November 16th, 2007 at 1:16 PM
Why would the yanks want to help Boras? well, they did end up keeping the best hitter in the game, and the alternative was … the ghost of mike pags
November 16th, 2007 at 1:18 PM
alright the basketball player is Kobe at the slum dunk contest and the baseball player is Manny Ramirez
November 16th, 2007 at 1:18 PM
The reason why i ask about A-rod being a real Yankee, I want to hear from Yankee fans. I listen to NY sportstalk eeach day, and it irritates me when callers say he is not a REAL Yankee. if he isnt a real Yankee, then who is ?
November 16th, 2007 at 1:20 PM
TBL, is that a silhouette of Big Papi ? i think it’s a lefty batter.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:20 PM
Why should the Yankees pay a writer who bashes their organization? They can find 1000 baseball writers to take his place that will be more objective,
November 16th, 2007 at 1:22 PM
The Yankees, like most businesses, don’t like to be criticized by one of their employees. I would like to know if the Torre book was being written at the time of the SI article. Verducci did have a conflict of interest with his upcoming Torre book — to both SI and YES.
I would like to know when, or if, these companies will stop hiring (or in the case of the original company, allow them to be hired) these writers with obvious conflicts of interest. Sure, you get a “name” writer on the network (which hopefully translates to credibility), but objectivity gets called into question once they have to choose one side or the other. Nothing good can truly come out of these operating agreements. It’s all done in the name of revenue.
As a Yankees hater, I hate having to agree with them.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:24 PM
The basketball palyer is vince carter!
The baseball player is ????
November 16th, 2007 at 1:27 PM
I think if they wanted you to know who they were, they wouldn’t be silhouette’s.

November 16th, 2007 at 1:27 PM
Of Course A-Rod is a Real Yankee…he is a pompous, arrogant douchebag…I have never seen a player so identify with the personality of its fan base.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:33 PM
hey odell keep it to yourself
nothing wrong with trying to find out who the silhouettes is it
November 16th, 2007 at 1:37 PM
Do you guys really care and are guessing silhouettes?!?!??!?! Are you fucking kidding me?!??!?!?!?!
Sorry I just channeled irishmafia
November 16th, 2007 at 1:38 PM
Irishmafia:
Just stating the facts. Also, I happen to know who the sillhouettes are and your guesses are way off. Manny Ramirez?
-Michael
November 16th, 2007 at 1:39 PM
Why would the Yankees want Boras to get buried under all the Bonds stuff? Hank’s an arrogant ahole and I would think he would want the Boras stuff all over the tabloids.
Much better banner.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:40 PM
Jake’s right. Verducci is a dime a dozen. I sure as hell wouldn’t pay someone to tell me I suck.
That guy up top has to be my man J.R. Rider.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:41 PM
The basketball player is Jordan and the baseball player kind of looks like McGwire.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:41 PM
I am going to jump on the silhouettes bandwagon and go with Ruth for the baseball player?
November 16th, 2007 at 1:41 PM
Or Harold Miner.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:43 PM
odell you dont know jack about the facts
ill bet you you dont know who they are
if i lose and you win, i will banish from this site until the first of the year
November 16th, 2007 at 1:44 PM
It’s 100000% Vince Carter end of debate:
http://webs.wofford.edu/pooledr/vince%20carter.jpg
As for the guy swinging the bat… no freakin clue
November 16th, 2007 at 1:46 PM
Just so we’re clear: It was the Yankees who said they wouldn’t negotiate with ARod after he opted out. Boras just took home a cool $28 million, to go with the several hundred million he already has in the bank, and he lost? I’m not a fan of Boras, but I’m fascinated by the media’s willingness (in NY) to side with a pair of rich brothers over a couple of rich dude’s (Boras and ARod). There’s no real winner or losers here. ARod’s going to be cashing Yankees checks long after he’s a real asset. And the Yankees have an outside chance at reaching the postseason next year, and a superstar to transition into their new stadium. That’s pretty much it.
November 16th, 2007 at 1:47 PM
For the silhoutte, it’s actually legendary wiffleball slugger Beef McCheese in his patented left handed one arm swing.
God forbid the YES network have someone who doesn’t gush all over the Yankees working for them. That’s the most disgusting part of the Yankees media organization, it’s even worse than Jeter eating babies…
November 16th, 2007 at 1:50 PM
Is that THE Chris Dankberg? Basbeall Prospectus’s Chris Dankberg?
Aren’t you guys supposed to be good at math? I don’t think 28M is 5% of $280M. (And I don’t think you need the apostrophe in “dudes.”)
November 16th, 2007 at 1:57 PM
part of me is glad he signed with them, only so we can watch that decline in skills over 10 years, plus the huge paychecks. I never like to see players injured, but man, are they screwed if the unthinkable happens to A-Rod…
and they probably won’t capture Johan Santana…then again…
November 16th, 2007 at 1:59 PM
I appreciate the correction in grammar and math. Now I do feel just like the TBL. You’re right: Boras got screwed in this deal. What a moron.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:11 PM
No matter how much A Rod makes, he still won’t match Derek Jeter in this department:

November 16th, 2007 at 2:16 PM
Chris:
He still missed out on his percentage of any potential Texas Ranger subsidy money, no?
November 16th, 2007 at 2:17 PM
The basketball player is Chris Webber circa NBA Jam Tournament edition. The baseball player is clearly Harold Reynolds. Finally, the microphone is Joe Buck’s.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:23 PM
TBL, you should change the micorphone to r esemble Conan O’Brien’s.
can you spill the beans on the images ?
November 16th, 2007 at 2:25 PM
The Yanks were the losers in the subsidy from Texas. I think that’s why they were taking such a tough position before he opted out. But as a lot of people predicted, the Yankees needed ARod more than anybody else did. When it was leaked that the Yankees offered ARod $350 million before he opted out, do you think that was the Yanks, or Boras? My guess is it was the Yanks trying to drive the price down so they could eventually settle on something around $300 million. That’s exactly what happened.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:25 PM
The banner looks better with the colors reversed:
http://www.thebiglead.com/wp-content/themes/sleepy-blue-10/images/thebiglead-nobk.gif
November 16th, 2007 at 2:31 PM
wow G Man you are right – it looks sweet reversed. Ur thoughts Mr. TBL?
November 16th, 2007 at 2:32 PM
cmon TBl
who is on the banner
you said it wasnt vince carter and it clearly is by the link above from mike1124
and whoever says its babe ruth or big papi needs glasses, cant you tell by his feet that he is a righty
November 16th, 2007 at 2:38 PM
Irish Mafia, i dont need glasses, i already take steroids and have stellar vision.
Look closely, that can be a lefty batter. Plus, lefty swings are much prettier than righty’s.
Griffey, Bonds, Ruth, Teddy Williams, Gwynn. All beautiful swings.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:41 PM
He also could have just taken a right hander and had the image reversed into the mirror version.
November 16th, 2007 at 2:41 PM
It’s not a lefty, when I originally made the banner (before I sent it to TBL) I tried using Griffey and Ted Williams but neither one of them turned out that great so I switched it to a right handed batter who will remain anonymous…that’s all I’m saying.
-Michael
November 16th, 2007 at 2:44 PM
you forgot will the thrill clark
that was a beautiful swing
November 16th, 2007 at 2:52 PM
Not only was Will Clarks swing beautiful, his middle name is one for the ages.
Neuschler
November 16th, 2007 at 2:59 PM
I think the banner would be way better without that thing that is sticking out there behind the H in The.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:05 PM
capital one needs to get off the top too
that sure isnt in my wallett
its in the wifes purse with the rest of my gosh darn money
i get paid to sit on TBL all day, fucking great
November 16th, 2007 at 3:29 PM
Well, I’m sure Cap One is paying a premium to be the lead banner. cant fault TBL for making a profit here. as long as i dont have to pay to visit here, you can splash ads in my comments.
November 16th, 2007 at 3:29 PM
Mark McGwire??? http://www.sportsgalleryweb.com/images/baseball/photos/mark_mcgwire_large.jpg
November 16th, 2007 at 5:53 PM
i’m convinced the backetball player is actually a guy with severe elephantitis trying to jump.
McGwire seems like a pretty good choice. the only other swing i can think of that resembles that is Giambi, but he’s a lefty. Maybe Canseco? hmm…’roid swing?
November 17th, 2007 at 3:01 AM
I’m surprised TBL put a baseball player in the banner considering they know NOTHING about the sport.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:24 PM
SO WHO IS IN THE GOD DAMN BANNER TBL
