Off-Topic: Geeked For Jan. 18, 2008
Movies November 28th. 2007, 1:27pm
Our current obsession is the new trailer to the JJ Abrams movie that finally has a name – Cloverfield. We already worry about how this movie will end, and a friend tells us he now has lost interest because it looks like ‘Blair Witch in NYC.’ We loved Blair Witch, and we likely will be at this movie on opening night. The Wikipedia entry for this flick – which we poured over for at least 15 minutes this morning – is ground zero for nerd-dom.

Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives
Sounds awful. Hey, J.J., how about getting back to work on LOST?

so its godzilla with ferris bueller and chief wiggum. not sure if that makes it better or worse.

Is this yet another CGI creation with dialogue added merely so it qualitfies as a movie?
November 28th, 2007 at 1:42 PM
I think I’d rather watch a Steven Seagal movie than this.
November 28th, 2007 at 1:43 PM
from the trailer i saw on transformers, it kind of seems like its the type where the monster doesnt play that big of a role, more dialog than anything else

it looks pretty crazy, i have to admit i’m pretty stoked after watching the HD trailer on apple.com last night. as far as monster movies go, it’s a pretty original idea and if they only show bits and peices of the moster until the end, they have a shot at making it a pretty cool movie.
the new alien v. predator movie looks pretty sweet too.

bob dylan movie is coming out this week, Im not there
that looks like it might be worth the $ 8.50

If the monster in this movie is anything like the “monster” on Lost, I’m gonna be pissed.
November 28th, 2007 at 2:14 PM
Oh, I’m in on this one. No question.
By the way TBL, Jessica Lucas (who stars in this movie and CSI: on Thursday nights) should be one of your new obsessions. Trust me.
November 28th, 2007 at 2:28 PM
@NDub:
Word. Jessica Lucas is insanely hot. I caught her on CSI, she is unbelievable.
November 28th, 2007 at 2:43 PM
Really surprised more people aren’t into this movie. The second trailer isn’t as hot as the first one, but this movie looks incredible. the monster will be like LOST in that it will be largely unseen.
November 28th, 2007 at 3:01 PM
Don’t worry TBL, the people who are into this are over at the Wiki page you linked, not here bashing a movie after seeing only about a minute worth of clips of it 2 months before it is even released. Don’t let blind cynicism make you any less excited for what looks to be a good movie.

You all would be better suited getting amped up for I Am Legend.

TBL – I went and saw Beowulf (i didnt know it was a fucking Sim) and the preview for this movie almost made me epylyptec (sic). I almost vomitted, the cineamatogrophy should be better for the whole movie, but for the most part I couldnt even watch the screen.

Scott Van Pelt – Richard Matheson- read the book, it is actually a short story, and it is fucking amazing.
November 28th, 2007 at 3:39 PM
All of Matheson’s books are great, “Hell House” should be required reading.
November 28th, 2007 at 3:53 PM
Interesting idea. The first trailer feels very “War of the Worlds”-esque.
November 28th, 2007 at 4:24 PM
I’m w/ cool rick, this movie could definitely induce vomitting… why the F would they budget $300+ Million for a movie only to have the camera shake through the entire film?
November 28th, 2007 at 4:35 PM
Thanks sportsgal, I dont know if i could do all that camera changing angles and flashing lights, not to mention the spliced dialouge. My girlfriend and I actually had to look away.
November 28th, 2007 at 6:52 PM
as i stated before, the fact that theres a sequel in the works suggests the movie will not be like the amazing book. i could be wrong, but i doubt i am. im not usually a ‘ZOMG THE BOOK IS SO MUCH BETTAR!’ person. I realize that translating book to film is difficult, but when the point of the book is SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER that he kills himself because he realizes he is the true monster, and it seems that is being left out of the movie, im writing it off in advance
and i think alot of people dont like lost because of the carrot on a string aspect of it, and dont want to see that in a movie
