It’s been quite a while since we ordered a pork chop in a restaurant. There is no mystical explanation for this culinary choice, except that we are creatures of habit (early morning pattern: Roll out of bed, walk into office, turn on computer, turn on Sirius radio, turn on TV to Mike & Mike, instantly hit the mute button. Then, to the bathroom for a quick brush of the teeth and then return to the computer, where we are planted for a few hours) and we don’t know too many pork chop joints in New York City.

Back to the story. A minor league baseball team in Pennsylvania recently held a ‘name the mascot’ contest. PorkChop was the winning submission. But now it has been revealed that PorkChop is a racist term. So the team is now called the Ferrous. Confused? “The new name of its mascot is Ferrous, an adjective derived from the Latin word ferrum (iron) that is commonly used to indicate the presence of, or having to do with, iron.”

The next time we’ll be writing about the Ferrous is when Brett Myers erupts on a reporter and is sent down to AAA.
