Media Fights for the Mitchell Investigation Names
Uncategorized December 5th. 2007, 3:59pm
Here’s a story we’ll all closely want to follow for the next couple weeks – a handful of media outlets filed court papers Tuesday to get the names of the baseball players who have been implicated (or, ‘ratted out’ by former Mets roid dealer Kirk Radomski) in George Mitchell’s Investigation. Assuming that SI falls under the CNN banner … anyone else surprised that ESPN is not on the list?Media seeking names in steroids case (Yahoo)

No they will probably just piggy back off of SI’s story and then the Bottom Line will say ESPN.com reports….

I guess ESPN is tired of being locked outside stadiums during the post season and is trying to play nice with MLB.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbsteit is reporting Les Miles will be named on the Mitchell report (ESPN’s Chris Mortenson is bitter about being beaten to that scoop)

I just hope Jeff Blauser isn’t on the list. If you don’t know who Jeff Blauser is, I hate you.

Bruce Benedict would have been a more appropriate catcher…which reminds me, there should be an all-time generic white boy baseball team

There’s no way the WWL won’t grab those names immediately. They’re probably going for something even better like an interview with Mitchell (hour long special anyone) so they will have the real person, won’t even need the names in writing….

“…anyone else surprised that ESPN is not on the list?”
Would it be safe to assume that ESPN already knows and is just getting together a behemoth story and break it out just prior to the release of the report?

better catcher – Biff Pocoroba.

Is there a conflict of interest here seeing as how ESPN televises major league games all season (and when they are don’t mention anything about controversies, such as during the Bonds chase all they did was slurp him during the telecasts)?

Why is there a picture above of Kevin Bass next to Bonds? I wouldn’t peg him as the steroid type.

Buster Olney and Peter Gammons are playing Rock, Paper, Scissors for it.
December 5th, 2007 at 5:21 PM
I’m sure they’ll do something sleazy to obtain the information

You just know that Freddie Patek’s name is on the list…

A-Rod’s such a bitch, and Caniseco said he juiced, so he better be on the list.
But, ya, why would ESPN hire that Chronicle guy if they weren’t going to pursue steroid stories agressively.

I would guess like a few others did that ESPN may already have an insider ready to release names in a few weeks.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m not anxious for this report to be made public. I think it will, in the long run, help baseball, but I think it is going to be a rude awakening for many people. I’m sure there will be names listed that we all will be surprised about and sickened by. I’m most interested in learning about the unnamed player that was willing to talk to the Mitchell people, and I’m also curious about the clubhouse guys who talked.
