Comments on: Arthur Blank, Mike Vick, and Fried Chicken

Arthur Blank’s comments were certainly foolish and offensive. To say that they are racist is questionable. Athletes are considered as property just as slaves were 150 years ago. White slave owners made huge sums of money on the backs of there slaves just as white NFL owners make billions on the backs of there players/slaves. Remember the comments of Marge Schott the former owner of the Cincinnati Reds when she referred to Eric Davis and Reggie Sanders as he million dollar niggers. This shows how athletes are viewed by the owners. Marge Schott was forced to sell the team by the other owners because she said in public what they say in private. This is the same thing that happened to Arthur Blank in my opinion. He said in public what he and others often say in private.

Arthur Blank was flat out wrong to say that. What he SHOULD have said was, “Hell no I don’t want that low life criminal back when he gets out of prison!”

My goodness, all of this business over fried chicken?!? As a southerner, I can see why he said that (its the most common meal here ya know), I can also see how it can be portrayed as racist, but I do not see any intent for it to be racist. Just because something CAN be racist doesn’t necessarily mean that it IS.

Blank has been one of Vick’s biggest supporters throughout his career, and even though he does have some douchey qualities I doubt he’s being racist here.

Platts, do you really think a guy with the bankroll of Capt. Home Depot is going to give $130 million to someone without doing some homework. He knew Vick had shady friends, he knew he went back to Virginia all the time. He most likely had someone tailing Vick all day every day. Blank isn’t some poor old guy who was taken advantage of, he used Vick, Vick used him.
