The Biggest Trash Talking White Athlete Since … Larry Bird?
NFL December 28th. 2007, 1:21pm
We find is slightly difficult to believe that Philip Rivers, the lanky and often inaccurate QB of the San Diego Chargers (rating down, interceptions up), is a renowned trash talker. That seems to be what the Denver Broncos are claiming. Champ Bailey – we called him overrated in the preseason, you scoffed – had this to say about Rivers: ‘“I don’t really care for the guy, first of all. He’s not a respectable guy right now, because you talk too much trash and do this and that, but you’re really not a great player in this league right now. You’re surrounded by great players, but you’re not a great player. I think he needs to understand where he stands in this league – on his team first and foremost. They’ve got a lot of classy guys on that team. He kind of represents the classless guy on that team. He’s definitely lost my respect.”
Bitter Broncos (no playoffs, waaaahhhhhh) or legit gripes?

Aren’t sports supposed to be fun…unless he’s calling your mother a sunt or something let it go and try to be a better team
December 28th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
I think I would let it go in most cases but what Bailey says is right, Philip Rivers sucks ass and the only reason he even looks remotely decent is the talent around him. He has done nothing in the league for him to be talking trash about.
Bailey still is a shutdown corner, even after Bailey talked shit about him Rivers still paid Bailey respect by saying they avoid him at all costs.

Ever since the Chicago game in week 2 when Rivers clearly yelled out “that is bullcrap” (and not “that is bullshit”) I lost respect for him.

George Bush is probably the biggest white trash talker since Bird.

bailey may be a good CB but what good is that if youre still a part of the 20th (or so) ranked pass D? champ can crow and talk all he wants, but because of the shitty NFL passing rules, the CB isn’t as valuable a position as it once was.
you could say that about any QB. name one QB other than vick and maybe elway that succeeded with crap around them. Elway? maybe. Lets see…Brady, Manning, Big Ben, Romo, Favre, all have weapons around them.
You expect Rivers to apologize for having LT and Gates? Oh, and his WR’s are OUTSTANDING too…please. He puts up basically what he should be putting up even with Norv trying to throw the ball way more than they should.
December 28th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
No, I expect him not to talk shit, because he aint shit
December 28th, 2007 at 1:47 pm
Just because CB isn’t valuable doesn’t mean that Bailey isn’t one of the best. If anyone watched that game on Monday you saw Bailey was the only guy making plays on defense.
Yeah TBL we all did scoff at that comment because you’re wrong. Bailey is still a shutdown corner in this league. Does it mean much? No. But he is far from overrated.
As for Phil Rivers. He sucks. I like how he talked all that trash AFTER he left the game. I like LDT and Gates, but I can’t root for a guy who has done absolutely nothing that talks smack. How about win a playoff game first. Just a thought.

1. Bailey brothers have the best names in sports, Champ and Boss.
2. Larry Legend is not happy being in the same breath as a scrub QB
greatest white trash talker of all time, rush limbaugh

Last year Rivers was a Top 5 QB in the league; this year, just middle of the pack. Also, he’s in only his second year starting. He’ll be just fine.

Rivers and Kendrick Perkins would have been great on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.
December 28th, 2007 at 1:54 pm
It was a joke last year when Rivers made the Pro Bowl over Tom Brady, oh and Spencer Tom Brady was pretty good last year when he had shit to work with at WR.
December 28th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
Why can’t it be both? Sure, Bailey’s feelings are hurt, but Rivers is an average quaterback. Also, I really don’t like taking sides (someone’s feelings usually get hurt).

brady last year was about as good as derek anderson was this year…which is about as good as rivers is this year.
and even tho he is tom brady, did anyone consider their offense to be dangerous? the QB is a result of the pieces around them.
great…bailey is the best CB. yet without any pass rush, he’s worthless. it doesnt matter how good of a CB you are, if the QB has 10 seconds to throw, they’ll find someone else. pass rush is infinately more important than pass coverage in today’s NFL.

this is a legit gripe, Rivers have been disappointing this season(to say the least) and ESPN replayed video of that MNF game where Rivers is screaming across the field to Jay Cutler calling him a Baby(you can read his lips when the clip was played in slow-mo).

If you take Champ out of Denver and into a real defense we will all see how good he is….Rivers is a puss….NUF SAID

I’d argue that Anderson is a better qb than Rivers. Anderson this year has 3635 yds passing, 18 tds (with 13 picks) and a rating of 82.7. Rivers has thrown for 3017 yds, 15 tds (with 19 picks)and a rating of 81.4. I don’t watch much Chargers football, but in the games I have seen, Rivers is whining on the sideline and throwing temper tantrums. Would you trust this guy in a big game?

He was a shit talker at NC State when his teams were always getting their ass kicked. Dude just doesn’t know when to shut your mouth. But on a team full of loud mouths [Even LT to a certain extent with his pussy comments about Belichick earlier this season], it really doesn’t matter who says anything. Once the playoffs start, Norv will shit the bed like always and they’ll probably be one and done trash talking their way back to the San Diego.
December 28th, 2007 at 4:43 pm
Let’s not forget that Anderson has Jamal Lewis, who’s been decent this year, while Rivers has LDT. Lewis…LDT. Lewis…LDT. Is there even a legit comparison?
Though, Anderson does have better WRs, and I gotta say the TE (Winslow/Gates) are a wash for all practicable purposes. I still think that LDT over Lewis trumps the difference at the WR

in terms of trash talking — and it’s something that i think has been overlooked by fans/media — it seems like Tom Brady does a ton of barking at officials, other players, etc.
December 28th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
maybe i’m alone here but after watching Rivers and Co. talking shit to Culter, i’m kinda hoping that turns into a little QB rivalry in the AFC West…but i guess rivers needs to be worth a damn first.

The idea that Rivers hasn’t done sh*t yet in football is ridiculous. Go look at his team’s record in college and the NFL so far. He was 34-17 as a starter at NC State (and since he’s been gone they’ve been 20-27). In the NFL he’s 24-7 as a starter and 15-1 at home. I would say that’s pretty damn good.
Also, who cares what the losers complain about. If Champ made some plays Rivers wouldn’t have been talking. When you are part of one of the worst defenses in the NFL (only the Lions and Dolphins have given up more points) maybe you should worry more about yourself rather then the other team.

he was a good college quarterback, but then again so was ryan leaf, akili smith, david carr, and joey harrington. the transition from college to the nfl is tremendous. phillip rivers is surrounded by one of the best runningbacks to ever play the game. antonio gates is literally hell to match up with, a game changer. and while vincent jackson and chris chambers certainly aren’t superstars, they are decent nfl wide recievers.
even with this talent, philip rivers has completed less than 60% of his passes 6 times this season and has thrown 15 interceptions. he has also posted qb ratings of 44.8, 49.4, and 30.6 this season. he is not a good nfl quarterback, yet.

“literally hell.” lol.
