Pull out your American flags as we pray for Favre’s blessing
NFL January 12th. 2008, 3:37pmAs we near kickoff for Game 1 of Round 2, it’s time to take a step back, breathe and reflect on the greatness that is our Favre.
[bow your heads in silence and heed the words of the national media]
“And you know what? I don’t care whether people are Packers fans or whatever, I’ll reiterate what we said: rooting for Favre is like rooting for America.” – Chris Berman
“Brett Favre is back. This guy has captured America.” – Bill Plaschke
“The rebirth of Favre is great news for football, sports and, when you think about it, life.” – Jay Mariotti
“Brett Favre is going to be 38 October 10th. October 10th should be a national holiday.” – Chris Berman
[Amen]
If you’re wondering, yes, those are real quotes. Â To save you TV time, I’m going to gaze into the future and give you a quick recap of the Fox pregame coverage, summarized thusly:
– At 38, Brett Favre is having one of his best seasons.
– Teacher and student meet again as Holmgren comes back to Lambeau. Favre and Holmgren are still really close.
– Matt Hasselbeck was once the backup to Favre. Not surprisingly, he has a little bit of Favre in him.Â
– Aaron Kampman and Patrick Kerney have “motors that never stop” (because they’re white and not slow.)
– We want the ball. And we’re going to score!
I say Packers by 10. See you in a bit.

If I hear “we want the ball and we’re going to score” one more time, I might go buy a weapon, and use it

I recommend KSK’s take of that line. It’s at the top of the page right now. (I am way too lazy to link today).
January 12th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
At least you were alert enough to type the recommendation though.

Some amazing college hoops finishes: Roy Hibbert just made a three (!!) with 2.7 seconds left and the Hoyas are up 72-69. UConn was up eight and just straight choked down the stretch.
Ogilvy just nailed a put back with 1 second left in OT to force double OT in Kentucky!!!

In case you didnt figure it out, yes, I am a Seahawk fan who is sick of that highlight. I knew from the moment Al Harris ran back that INT (and I destroyed half of my living room), that I would have to deal with that on TV forever, especially if this matchup happened again.

OMG. UCLA was up 13 with 1:07 left, and now it’s down to four with 22 seconds left. I got the Bruins -6.5. This will not make me happy. At all.

Scobee-dobee-done.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Oh dear. That’s the definition of a terrible start.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I had this to say about Ryan Grant friday: “But we still aren’t sold on Ryan Grant as stud … he’s probably better than Cedric Benson but not as good as Julius Jones.”
Well, two fumbles in the first 90 seconds certainly isn’t going to help his cause. This is a must-stop for anyone who has the Packers and the under.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
I think Ryan Grant may have bet on the Seahawks
January 12th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
That was a great throw by Hassy, he looked pretty solid on that drive.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Pete Rose salutes Ryan Grant.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
14-0. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
January 12th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
I’m in a playoff fantasy league – my RB is Mr. Grant. I’ll be in the living room drinking heavily if anyone needs me.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
This is kind of amusing. I have a Patriots Seahawks Super Bowl so I’m enjoy this a lot. Ryan Grant might own the greatest 69 seconds of choking ever.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
This qualifies as an ‘unmitigated disaster.’
I’m down with 60 passes from Favre.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Grant carried and didn’t fumble!!!! Break out the champagne!
January 12th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Nothing like a snowy playoff game at Lambeau
January 12th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
This is going to be one of those games that Favre destroys one of the two teams. Either he’s going to end the Packers chances or the Hawks will rue the day they were born.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
That didn’t take long.
January 12th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
I think it’s too early to say Ryan Grant is choking. Packers are still going to win. Holmgren will call a horrible game and once again will show that he’s not a genius and one of the most overrated playcallers in the game.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
we may get a brandon jackson sighting. if that’s the case, i like favre for at least 45 pass attempts (sorry tbl, 60 might be a little high, even for the american icon, pill popping idol that is favre).
cmon seahawks, cover the spread…
January 12th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Colt Brennan thinks Favre is a pussy with his 45 attempts.
Favre thinks Brennan is a pussy.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Man, Pack got lucky on that interception drop.
What’s the consensus on Pats/Jags? I will surely need to make-up for this debacle
January 12th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Pats will cover. I like them at -13.5…I’m unsure yet of the over/ under.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
I realize that may be the homer in me, but I don’t see how the Jags will score enough to hang. The Pats will score pretty much every possession.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Agreed. Jaguars defense isn’t what it once was, especially with the unhealthy defensive line.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Christ, I could have made that run through that hole.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Not sure the Seahawks D can stop the Pack. Especially not in this snow
January 12th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Holmgren looks great with snow in his mustache.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
He’s in his element. Soon he’s going to dive beneath the ice to get fish.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:46 pm
Did I mention that Ryan Grant is my boy!?
/I’ll still be in the living room drinking.
January 12th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
I know it is a bs stat, but what do you think Favre’s QB rating is right now?
January 12th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Bradshaw just had an orgasm
January 12th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Ryan Grant will see your fumbles and raise you 2 touchdowns
January 12th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
ryan grant will raise you another td.
brett favre is america’s most important national export.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Grant sure has redeemed himself. Favre is the master. Under’s shot, but Seahawks have done jack squat since that 14-0 lead.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
@TBL – They did kick a pretty sweet field goal!
January 12th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
@CRM: In their defense, it was easier to score starting from the one.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
brian baldinger’s pinky finger is fucking awesome. id let him pick my nose with it.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Ok, just took New England -13.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
TBL, I think it’s a safe pick. I say that with confidence because I’m not betting.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
This is ooouuuuuuuuurrrrrr country.
I saw that in a Bill Simmons mailbag once.
January 12th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
@Pat – That’s the safest pick.
/nods head approvingly

In bowling that’s called a turkey!
