The AFC Championship Game
NFL January 20th. 2008, 2:25pm
San Diego Chargers (13-5)
vs.
New England Patriots (17-0)
3:00pm
CBS
This is it. The Pats have to get past the Chargers (who they beat in week 2) and it’s on to the Super Bowl. The Patriots are currently moving furniture into a house on Maurice Morris’ block.
Apparently, Phillip Rivers will be on the field today while he screams at people for no reason. I’m certainly reassured. I was hoping for a little Volektricity, but we can’t always get what we want now can we?
Of course Dreamboat is healthy and ready to go. I’m thinking Gisele will not be sitting on the 50-yard line experience the elements because Tom Brady doesn’t need superstitions. He has Randy Moss, Wes Welker and a nearly impenetrable offensive line.
It’s going to be cold – a common theme in January in the northern states. You may have heard something about this on ESPN. I don’t know.
I think the big story will be LaDainian Tomlinson versus the Patriots’ defense. In the week 2 meeting, LDT was kept in check with 11 carries for 43 yards and 4 catches for 15 yards. Since that slow start he’s torn up the league finishing the season with over 1900 total yards and 18 touchdowns. The Chargers are going to have to control the ball if they want a shot at this thing.
That means no turnovers and a healthy LDT.
We all know that the Patriots are going to come out and throw-throw-throw. The Patriots would come out in the shotgun in a tornado. Belichick will probably have Brady throw the ball 50 times just to keep his arm warm.

Laurence Maroney may get 20 carries and a 100 yards, but this is still an air show. Antonio Cromartie had better catch a couple of Brady’s passes or the Chargers are in trouble.
Really the only question about the Patriots’ is how many balls with Moss get. Welker will probably grab 8-12 balls for a 100 yards himself. Sorry about obsessing about the statistical outcomes of individual players here, but as I mentioned, I’m still enjoying me some fantasy football.
Final score?
Patriots 34, Chargers 20

Just saw Cloverfield. Good stuff. Surprised to see negative comments about it earlier this weekend. Will be writing about it Monday … is anyone working Monday?

Hells yeah TBL. No spoilers purdy please. And, if I could make a small request, could you please post about that doucheass cockbreath Scheyer??
January 20th, 2008 at 3:19 PM
What’d Scheyer do now? I saw some of the Clemson game, he didn’t look terrible.
“Cockbreath” … is that new? Seems like something i should be using.
This game looks slow as hell.

The smarmy, wiry, retard fuckstick breathed…that’s enough for me…but I would bang his mom though.
Is it new? I don’t know…I’ve had good fun with it for awhile, but I would be honored if you used it.

I won’t be working – Thank you MLK! – but I’ll be around

God this game is boring.

Vincent Jackson was wiiiiide open and Rivers threw short to Chambers on 3rd and goal. Gotta throw into the end zone on that play. And field goals aren’t gonna do it against the Pats.

Last Sunday’s games were probably going to be the highlight of the playoffs.

Phillip Rivers is a cockbreath, bring in Volek
January 20th, 2008 at 4:16 PM
Steve Tasker (who is on the sideline) reported LDT is not hurt, he is out because of a coaches decision.

If anyone can identify a cockbreath, it is owl.
January 20th, 2008 at 4:18 PM
WTF? That’s a hell of a coaches decision.
January 20th, 2008 at 4:19 PM
Someone explain to Rivers that you can only throw that pass if Randy Moss is waiting on the other end.
January 20th, 2008 at 4:20 PM
i’m not sure how Norvie can keep Rivers in the game now, with a terrible second pick and the inability to throw off his plant foot.
January 20th, 2008 at 4:26 PM
san diego fans, as a miami fan id like to welcome you to the ‘imagine if we had looked past brees’ surgery’ club. god rivers is a joke

I’d just like to thank whoever talked me out of Nate Kaeding yesterday
January 20th, 2008 at 4:40 PM
pats -14 not looking great … mostly because the Patriots offense looks like garbage and the Chargers are moving the ball much too easily.
January 20th, 2008 at 4:47 PM
If anybody knows how to make adjustments while losing to New England at halftime in an AFC championship – it has to be Cowher. If I’m Norv I do the opposite of whatever Cowher just recommended during the halftime show.

Slept through most of this. At least I should be able to stay awake for the second game. *yawn*
