The NFC Championship Game
NFL January 20th. 2008, 5:33pm
New York Giants (12-6)
vs.
Green Bay Packers (14-3)
6:30pm
Fox
I’m kind of a Giants hater.
What can I say? I’m a product of my environment. See, I went to college (and currently live) in upstate New York. This means that I know a lot of Giants fans. On Sundays we used to sit in our room and listen to the Giants fans in the hall freak out whenever the Giants would blow a game – and they blew a lot of games. My friend and I would sit in our room watching it all unravel on television and silently pump our fists as the Giants lost. It was incredibly fun.
That being said, I don’t really hate the Giants this season. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I really dislike Tony Romo and I’m glad I wasn’t subjected to another week of his stupid face. I don’t know.
Bad news for the Giants though – The Packers are really good. When Brett Favre said all those months ago that this was the most talented Packers team he’d ever been on, maybe we should have listened. The guy knows what he’s talking about. He has been in the league since the merger.

Did you know Ryan Grant started the season with the Giants? He did. I looked it up. On the internet. Grant probably won’t have a replay of last week’s performance, but as long as the Packers give him the rock he should find success again.
Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw might have some problems though. The Packers have the number 1 rushing defense in the playoffs and with the frigid conditions Eli might not be able to throw down field to set up the run.
Brett Favre on the other hand was born on the dark side of the moon in a blizzard – the man lives in Green Bay and he sleeps with the windows open. Favre has a chance to return to the Super Bowl and all that stands in his way is Eli Manning and the New York Giants. So he’s got that going for him – which is nice.
Final Score?
Packers 27, Giants 22
I’m off to the bar to root against the Giants. See you (down in the comments) later.

Been a Giants hater my whole life but the whole Tiki Barber factor has me cheering for them.
January 20th, 2008 at 6:04 PM
<~~~ Hates the Jints. Of course, I’m an Eagles fan, so it’s in my blood.
January 20th, 2008 at 6:07 PM
Those girls had to be imported, no way they are from ‘Sconsin
January 20th, 2008 at 6:09 PM
Dornoch, are you saying you want the Giants to win because Tiki wont get a Ring ?
January 20th, 2008 at 6:25 PM
Giants will win because of that Front 4 on defense and Bretty Favre reverting to his ole last year self.
Thank Mary, Packer fans.
January 20th, 2008 at 6:50 PM
Yes
January 20th, 2008 at 7:00 PM
It’s only one drive, but Eli Manning has looked better than Brady did against the Chargers.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:02 PM
CRM Whereabouts in Upstate NY?
January 20th, 2008 at 7:10 PM
Wow, suddenly I feel like the Packers hired Ron Turner as a consultant!
January 20th, 2008 at 7:14 PM
come to my live-blog. these are the droids you’re looking for.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:35 PM
Oh, now that I’ve seen Cloverfield, Brett Favre could ever put that bitch in sleeper hold.
Donald Driver is slow, but fast enough.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:37 PM
Would have been nice if Donald Driver would have caught a td pass during the regular season when he was ON MY FANTASY TEAM. Asshole.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:37 PM
Living 15 miles from Wisconsin, I’m pretty sure they are from there. They’re young, so all the years of beer, brats and smoking hasn’t destroyed their looks yet.
And being a Vikings fan, I am so hating the Packers being in the NFC championship game. Getting hard to listen to people up around here right now.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:42 PM
Sportsgal: At least you didn’t take Harrison with your second overall pick. That worked out well.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:44 PM
Um, I got Harrison with my 3rd pick. And Shaun Alexander w/ my second.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:44 PM
Had Deuce McAllister as a keeper.
Season total: 92 yards rushing, 0 TD, 1 fumble lost
January 20th, 2008 at 7:47 PM
Never mind……
Harrison was bracked by Peyton and Gates. They kinda worked for me
January 20th, 2008 at 7:49 PM
Well thanks for making me feel better Hawk Eye!
January 20th, 2008 at 7:50 PM
Hey, that’s what I’m here for…making the ladies feel better.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:51 PM
Huh…so running directly into the Packers’ line is not a good idea. Who would have thunk it.
January 20th, 2008 at 8:34 PM
CRM – Did your hatred for the Giants begin on 1/27/91 in Tampa? If you went to college and live in upstate NY, does that mean you are Bills fan? If so, I can understand hating the Giants.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMdkxiaciW0
I generally hate all New York teams in all sports, but the Giants seem to be the one exception. Especially when playing the fudge-Packers.
January 20th, 2008 at 8:44 PM
Cousin- Predators are not capable of performing in cold weather climates. Why was Predator, the original, in a tropical jungle? Any poster that can explain the ass torching by Billie D. Williams of Al Harris gets a ham sandwich.
January 20th, 2008 at 8:56 PM
Holy crap, they just showed those girls. Any lady that goes bikini top in this weather is on my keeper list.
January 20th, 2008 at 8:56 PM
Damn, a live shot of the bikini girls.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Toomer and Woodson were teammates at Michigan in 1995, which was Woodson’s freshman year and Toomer’s final year. It was also Lloyd Carr’s first year as coach. The first game of the year was a 18-17 win over Virginia on the last play of the game. Tiki and Ronde Barber both played for Virginia that day.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:03 PM
I can explain my hatred of the Giants in two words. Wide right. Still hurts.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:04 PM
Cabbage – Don’t click on the YouTube link I posted above.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:09 PM
Don’t need YouTube, it’s burned into my brain. As I’m getting up in years my rememory ain’t what it used to be, but that one I can’t forget.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:19 PM
The Packers are killing me!
January 20th, 2008 at 9:19 PM
Headline: “Favre saved by a Fat Lineman….and Jesus.”
/Mike Huckabee
January 20th, 2008 at 9:29 PM
i lost money on wide right, granted i was 9 years old and i threw ten bucks into a pool but if that shit goes in i hit my square and win 150 bucks, thats millions for a nine year old
January 20th, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Always the fucking kicker with the Giants.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:06 PM
Holy Crap !
Eli is having a very good game though. I am impressed.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Pick 6 from Favre to end the game. It’s gonna happen.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Tynes better start walking home if they lose
January 20th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Got the pick, not the 6.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Gunslinger Favre returns.
*giddy*
January 20th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Rut-roh
January 20th, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Keep pounding the running game…do not settle for the FG attempt!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
The Favres are done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Stay classy, Green Bay.
40+ field goal for the clinch. Nice.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Woooooo Hoooooooo
January 20th, 2008 at 10:13 PM
A red, white, and blue Super Bowl.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Brett being Brett.
Aaron, guess you’ll have to wait another year on the sidelines!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:14 PM
NY Post backpage: 3rd time’s a charm
Front: Fuck yea!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:16 PM
wow new york and boston superbowl. the collective load being blown in the media is going to raise the average jizz mopper salary at least fifteen cents
i wont be watching
January 20th, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Peter King’s in the bathroom with a bottle of scotch, 36 inches of Subway sandwich, a wrinkled Favre jersey from his Falcons days on, and a razor blade.
Just do it.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Haaaaaaahahaha… as a Vikings fan, I could not be happier with the result. Hope you enjoy every “2008 NFC Championship” reference as much as you love the “4th and 26″ jokes, Packers fans.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Pam Oliver: Fuck, I planned on interviewing Favre after the game. Who’s this Plaxico bastard? What do I say to him?
January 20th, 2008 at 10:19 PM
And, I know its highly uncool to quote Bill Simmons around here, but Tiki Barber makes a fantastic Ewing Theory story.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:20 PM
I gotta admit Eli played a solid football game. D-line stuffed the GB running attack. And Favre didn’t throw one underhanded pass all day.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:22 PM
I’m with you SR1. It’s going to be a fine couple of days listening to the Sports Leader!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:22 PM
As a Seahawks fan, I second all those who are happy to see GB gone. If only so I dont have to hear and see once again how Ryan Grant overcame all odds to become the greatest RB of all time against Seattle.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:23 PM
sr1, dont forget Shockey in the theory as well
January 20th, 2008 at 10:23 PM
Harry Carson could probably still lace them up.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:24 PM
I can just see the 1st episode of SNL…
“Hi everyone, I’m Eli Manning. You may know me because my team, The New York Giants, won the Super Bowl. Wow, it feels good. Really good. In my fourth year (fourth right?) I won the Super Bowl. *silence* How long did it take my brother? Peyton? *camera cues to Peyton* That’s right. Dad, I told you I was better than him. Nananana boo-boo”
January 20th, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Looks like Coughlin got some cream for his frostbite
January 20th, 2008 at 10:26 PM
btw coughlin looks alot like akroyd in nothing but trouble right now
eerie
January 20th, 2008 at 10:26 PM
Or there’s the idea that Tiki Barber wasn’t really that great…
January 20th, 2008 at 10:27 PM
Jimmy Johnson looks like he wants to hang himself. What a pansy.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Pam should be lucky she doesnt have to interview Osi Uminyoura.
BA-ZING !
January 20th, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Nah, I still think he was more of a cancer than not that great.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:29 PM
That’s a pretty coat, for me to poop on!!!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
I can’t wait for the first Goober to complain about a New York Boston Super……… ooops, too late!!!!!!!!
January 20th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Everybody say it with me – “I can’t believe Eli Manning is going to the Super Bowl”
January 20th, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Sure, I guess 1662 yards rushing in 2006 by Tiki Barber is BAD for the team. 1800 the year before. ended with 5 straight 1000 yard rushing seasons. had 2000 combined rush/rec yards in each of the past 3 seasons.
it all makes sense now.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
I heard that somewhere else, too…
January 20th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
blow me
January 20th, 2008 at 10:33 PM
I’d rather hear the “Ewing Theory” than to say Tiki Barber was bad for the team.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:34 PM
Never said Tiki was bad for the team
January 20th, 2008 at 10:34 PM
cant we just agree that tiki is clearly a douchebag and its hilarious that his team is having tons of success now without him
January 20th, 2008 at 10:36 PM
+1 molemaninthemorning
January 20th, 2008 at 10:38 PM
Cuz, someone said it back on comment #62.
Nah, I still think he was more of a cancer than not that great.
Tiki may be a grinning cheese doodle. but to blame him for the Giants losing the past 5 years is disgusting. 53 players on a team. and why pick the guy who produced the best stats and say he was a “cancer” ?
January 20th, 2008 at 10:38 PM
you know what im going to defend complaining about new york and boston. of course its natural for the sports media to focus on the biggest sports markets in the country (my apologies to chicago and la, but no, gtfo) but it is incredibly irritating that anything of the slightest interest coming out of those cities gets top billing. and now that theres a showdown between the two cities i shudder to think of how over the top it will be.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:39 PM
If Derek Ward had never gotten hurt he’d have been the leading rusher today. That’s obviously just my opinion because it’s more believable that the Giants have 3 immensely talented backs this season than think that Tiki Barber might possibly be a tad bit overrated.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Later all – thanks for stopping by – I’m out to drink and watch some House
January 20th, 2008 at 10:40 PM
Droughns is good at getting in the end zone but i think its a tad of a stretch to say hes immensely talented
but point taken
January 20th, 2008 at 10:42 PM
i would hope that my picks win me something. find anyone on earth more spot on that my picks with the scores.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:43 PM
I think for the G-Men to win Coughlin has to realize that getting more carries for Bradshaw is necessary because sometimes it’s just painful to watch Jacobs run 2-3 yards time and time again.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:48 PM
Cuz, you are comparing “3 immensely TALENTED” RB’s with an “OVERRATED” Tiki Barber. those 2 capitalized words are judgements. and that would mean it’s an opinion. I will go to stats, like i mentioned before.Tiki had 3 straight 2,000 yard seasons. You mean to say that’s not being “talented” ?
Let’s face it. the Giants didnt have Super Bowl caliber teams when Tiki played. and to say it’s Tiki’s fault is terrible.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:51 PM
OK Cuz, you didnt say it was his fault. my mistake. but how can 2000 yard seasons be overrated ?
January 20th, 2008 at 10:53 PM
There is a difference between Tiki being overrated and Tiki being a cancer in the lockerroom. As great as his numbers were it is a case of addition by subtraction with him. They don’t even make the playoffs last year without his 200 yards the last game of last year against the Redskins.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:54 PM
Tiki was a leader on a Giants team that made it to the Super Bowl. They lost, as this team will, but they made it as this team did.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:55 PM
“blow me”? That’s a goober response.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Anybody that doesn’t want to watch the Patriots attempt to be the first team to ever finish a season 19-0 is not a sports fan. This is the greatest story in team sports in a generation. Whether you are rooting for them or against them, the Pats are an unbelivable story.
January 20th, 2008 at 11:20 PM
@ Chris:
I agree. Go PAts !
January 21st, 2008 at 12:47 AM
i dont particularly care which team wins and im damn sure not going to watch just to see if the patriots win, superbowl broadcasts are notoriously horrid and theres usually some quality movie or show marathons on opposite to it. if they win and twenty years from now my kid asks me about it im sure ill be able to fill him in just fine without watching the game
