Ballin’: Yi Jianlian, Meet the Rookie Wall
NBA January 23rd. 2008, 10:55am
Phoenix 114, Milwaukee 105: Has Yi hit the freshman wall? The Bucks have lost six of seven and though the rookie is averaging 10.1 ppg for the season, this has been his worst month shooting, rebounding, and scoring. Also, David West posterized the rook Tuesday night. Perhaps someone can find the video.
Sacramento 128, New Jersey 94: The Kings are 3-1 with Mike Bibby in the lineup after this thrashing of the Nets. Seven guys scored in double figures led by Ron Artest’s 27.
Melo’s injury and his ticket imbroglio: The NBA’s fourth-leading scorer will miss tonight’s game against Atlanta due to the ankle injury he suffered Monday against the Lakers. Also, he gave OJ Mayo free tickets to said game, which may have been an NCAA violation. Mayo doesn’t know when to shut up, either: “Anthony made the offer of tickets at a party he hosted Sunday night, Mayo said. “I was talking to him like, ‘Man, you’re out pretty late. You’ve got a game tomorrow against Kobe [Bryant],’ ” Mayo said. “He said, ‘Nah it will be all right.’ And then he asked, ‘You want to come to the game?’ And I was like, ‘Sure.’ ” Rat!

Is the Nets coach Lawrence on the hot seat? Every time I look at a score of theres it seems like they lost by 20 or more.

Damn Magglio you beat me to it.
But wait, pro athletes go out partying the night before games? Even in Los Angeles? Next thing you tell me is that some are unfaithful husband’s, and some smoke weed.

And Melo said, “It is late, hey, don’t you have class tomorrow. Remember, getting a good education is priority #1, haven’t you seen my PSA.”

Sweet Jesus, he’s gonna get worked good in the NBA.

The residents of Wisconsin lay no claim to the atrocity that is the Milwaukee Bucks. OK City, Las Vegas, you can have their sorry asses.

see how sad the ballin comments are, no debates
people on this site mostly comment on current events because they dont really have the knowledge to comment on sports
so if you respond to this, go start a blog over @ people magazine
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:30 AM
How much does people pay?
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:32 AM
“Don’t have the knowledge to comment on sports” … huh?
The floor is yours, begin the debate.

You paint with such a broad brush Irish.

January 23rd, 2008 at 11:36 AM
Between this and the Closers moving further and further back in the day at Deadspin the entire internet is off schedule. Soon we’ll go to work at 5pm and eat dinner for lunch.

@irish
Alright I will crack my knuckles and let fly with:
Dwight Howard is over-rated and has yet to achieve anything in the NBA besides individual numbers on a team of no talent role players.
Anything?
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:40 AM
they beat the pistons once
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:40 AM
Well that certainly got the ball rolling…
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Howard got a girl pregnant while in the NBA.
So…he’s accomplished something.
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:43 AM
He had the best dunk and didn’t win the dunk contest.
I don’t think that had ever happened before, so another accomplishment.
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:43 AM
@tk
That would make Shaun Kemp a hall of famer?
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:44 AM
tk, he will set the record for most double doubles in a year
next….
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:44 AM
Dwight Howard played one of the Monstars in Space Jam.

Larry Frank is a figurehead. Jason Kidd runs that team and calls the shots. Feel bad for Frank, but I get the impression they keep him around because he’s easy to handle, cheap, and doesn’t mouth off to the media.
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:46 AM
and after that just how many championships will he have…ZERO
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:47 AM
Got it TBL, they just seem to underacheive so badly, and it’s almost like no one cares, even in New Jersey, I could be wrong but that’s how it seems.
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:58 AM
He may lead my fantasy team to a championship.
So he got that going for him, which is nice.
January 23rd, 2008 at 12:06 PM
Rookie wall? Don’t overlook Durant. He now has the same shooting percentage as Rafer Alston. Rafer!!! (just below 40%).
January 23rd, 2008 at 12:30 PM
tk, who howard is leading your fantasy team?
January 23rd, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Durant hit the rookie wall in game 1. He has shot miserably all year long.
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:28 PM
Dwight.
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:43 PM
MVP
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:18 PM
I’m calling a mulligan on today’s ballin’ comments. TBL, can you wipe the slate clean so we can start over with something a bit more substantive?
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:20 PM
There’s always tomorrow, Hef
