Which Packers’ Super Bowl Ring is For Sale?*
NFL February 5th. 2008, 12:48pm
[UPDATE: Emailer says, "If you look at the 'blacked out' picture of the ring, the seller did a terrible job of blacking out the X at the end of their last name. The only Packer with an X in their last name is Ron Cox."]
A reader who was listening to the Dan Patrick show recently passed along this note: a member of the 1996-1997 Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers is trying to sell his championship ring on eBay. The player’s name is being withheld (that’s where you come in!) for obvious reasons.
Here’s the roster – have at it. A couple names to eliminate: Brett Favre and Desmond Howard. Among the many enticing names on the roster worth endlessly speculating about – a certain defensive end who ran into problems with the FBI..

Eugene Robinson has expensive habits.
February 5th, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Maybe Andy Reid needs some more lawyer money ?

February 5th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Who would want a Royals ring?
February 5th, 2008 at 12:59 PM
Am I the only person who didn’t realize that Jim Fucking McMahon was on that team?
February 5th, 2008 at 1:00 PM
The urban legend around these parts is that Rison was so upset with the team not making an effort to re-sign him (Robert Brooks was coming back and they didn’t need him) that he threw his ring into a river somewhere

Chewy just built a house not far from me so I doubt it is him. He’s got a radio gig in WI that probably pays him way more than they should.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:08 PM
Andre Rison without a doubt.

February 5th, 2008 at 1:34 PM
I never clicked on the link to ebay till after the update. I have a laptop and all I did was tilt my screen and it is obvious that it says cox.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:38 PM
I’m pretty sure Chmura is still married, so I really don’t think its him.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:39 PM
spencer, +1, though the veal is awful.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:40 PM
Eugene Robinson, he has a track record.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:40 PM
PKI I did the same thing and agree.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:43 PM
I don’t see the X. Where should I be looking?
February 5th, 2008 at 1:45 PM
that X is from the roman numerals in the super bowl logo
debate?
February 5th, 2008 at 1:46 PM
on the bottom/right side? It says COX above the Helmet
February 5th, 2008 at 1:46 PM
The X is the last letter, whereas the Super Bowl ended in I.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:48 PM

February 5th, 2008 at 1:48 PM

February 5th, 2008 at 1:50 PM
I don’t know Irish, it seriously looks like an O above the helmet. Kind of spread out C O X. But I couldn’t tell you for sure. I mean I don’t even know if he was a starter. Are there any pics of the rings not blacked out that show how the ring was layed out?
February 5th, 2008 at 1:51 PM
I agree with Nick and Irish*, I don’t see it either.
*I think I am going to be sick.
February 5th, 2008 at 1:54 PM

Dammit they did not accept my offer of $10!!!
February 5th, 2008 at 2:47 PM
I’m with bobb; that says COX.
February 5th, 2008 at 3:47 PM
Yes, I see where they tried to black out Cox and failed. Above the helmet on the side. Cox did start that game – but only b/c George Koonce hurt his knee a week or two earlier.
February 5th, 2008 at 4:53 PM
Gilbert Brown for sure.
