Texas Hoops Fans Will Love This
ESPN, Media Gossip/Musings February 14th. 2008, 3:53pm
If you live in Texas, and instead of watching a fantastic college basketball rivalry in the privacy of your own home, where you possess the ability to mute commercials and pause live TV to drain the main vein or get yourself some nutella on wheat thins … you can pay to watch the game in a movie theater! Popcorn, Texas A&M and Texas, plus Ron Franklin (we assume he’s calling it) on the Silver Screen in HD – it don’t get no better than that!
Ah, but it does! No commercials! Wait – that may not be a good thing. Instead of commercials, Media Post publications says that ESPN will run some network promos. Ugh. If anyone actually attends a viewing next week, please send us a report.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is amazing.
February 14th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
The AMC near my old house did this when Tech played FSU in the Sugar Bowl. Although I dont think HD was around then.

unless you have a movie theatre that plays any channel for free, at all times on the main floor of the condo complex you live at. Life is good here minus the weather.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Whoa, huge slam on anteaters out of nowhere!
February 14th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
i love the big movie theaters where you pay for one movie and end up seeing two other for free on shitty weather days. is it wrong to sneak in your own candy?
February 14th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
@Irish – I would rather pay $1.50 for Skittles elsewhere than $4.50 at AMC. I always assumed everyone did it and the only people that bought food at the theaters were popcorn people.

mystery science theater is fucking awesome.
oh, and this idea is fucking awesome.
Texas is fucking awesome.
fucking awesome.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
On another note: why can’t you get drinks at the movies? Has this been done?
February 14th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
This is a great idea
February 14th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Mags…there are a few theaters around me that have booze. its expensive tho.
i prefer just to make weed brownies and sneak in a flask.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
mags- movie theaters near me serve beer and wine. there is this other place that the wifey is trying to drag me to that serves dinner when you are watching the flick. i dont like that idea though but they are making a killing
February 14th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
a friend informed me that theres a movie theatre at home in charlotte that serves booze. its part of a country club though technically so idk if that has something to do with it.
beats the dollar theatre in boone being next to a bottle shop and dipping out every ten minutes for a fresh tall boy

Well you can walk into a movie theater and buy a beer. And, I don’t mean just like a paper cup, I’m talking about a glass of beer.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:09 pm
moleman…FUCKING A! big mclargehuge was one of the funniest lines ever on that show.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Of course it’s been done – and it’s a beautiful thing. They sometimes screen Texas football games there, no charge.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
There is a theater around where I grew up in NH where the seats are leather recliners gathered around a table and they serve you dinner right before the movie starts.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
@ALL
You all don’t know how lucky you are. Bars here close at 2AM, last call at 1:30. We don’t have a single movie theatre that serves alcohol. Strippers are forced to no nude, unless you go into the private room. At least that is how it is on this side of the state. The east side I know has quality strip clubs, not so sure on the booze at movie theatres though. Fucking Michigan.

space mutiny, the names
bob johnson! … wait
February 14th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Seriously, no nude, meaning no boobs. It is basically like watching a chick dance in her undies.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
maggs, in boone (appalachian state) we couldnt get liquor in bars. beer and wine, no liquor. you could drive eight miles to blowing rock and get it but not there. also, no titty bars.
quit your bitching
February 14th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
moleman…best link all day. thanks.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Roger Goodell and the NFL will take your money and your first born if you try to show the NFL in theaters.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
@moleman
I have never heard of this “appalachian state” that you speak of…
February 14th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
@ Maggs – so you too know the wonders of pasties? There’s only one club in NH, and it’s the same way. Nothing like paying a $10 cover and $8 beers to see the girls dance in thongs with pasties on.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Maggs, Ohio just passed a stripper law where the dancer cannot be closer than 3 feet, which kind of ruins private dances. You also can’t smoke inside, anywhere, even bars/strip clubs. I have not gone since, and word is underground strip clubs are opening up where you can get “anything”, and thats not something im interested in.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
hahaha. oh man i swear i didnt throw that in there because of your avatar, just as a point of reference. my condolences.
if it makes you feel any better im at penn state now and the hope that these people had after the game that shant be mentioned, this was finally their year to beat um because of course theyd be able to after they lost to THAT team …. oh they were so crushed when they lost AGAIN, it was awesome
February 14th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Alcohol and food at the movies are nice, but what I’m looking for is a chain that offers modified popcorn buckets.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Mags…im sorry man, but that was hysterical.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
@coop
That was funny! Yeah under ground strip clubs are probably more seedy that regular strip clubs which can’t be good. I am all for a smoking ban, everywhere, as long as I can have a chew. Strip clubs are being stripped of thier charm. This is an outrage. Let the girls be free of the confines of clothing! Yes we can!
February 14th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
I have really come around on the smoke ban. As a former smoker, I fully endorse the right to suck down a smoke, but after spending a weekend in PA I realized how crappy bars are when filled with smoke.
Free the springfield two, free the springfield two

Will E.A. be working the sideline? Big screen Andrews sisters sounds appealing. I’ve just been sitting really close to the TV to recreate the effect.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
I am outta here.
Until tomorrow knuckleheads.

February 14th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Mags…any TP updates? Brian at mgoblog hasnt said shit lately, and thats where i was getting everything.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
im a smoker and they have banned smoking on the public beaches down here and if you get caught by the police officer in a bikini than you pay a $97 fine. but they have started selling beer on the beach now
February 14th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
fack…too late.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
off topic but would all the sports colmnists please get off your high horse about cock fighting in the dominican republic? its legal there and its actually a popular sport. comparing aramis ramirez to mike vick is dumb.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
@Maggs: Back in HS during a dull weekend, some buddies and I snuck a fifth into one of the Blade movies. The rule was every time we saw blood we had to do a shot. Half way into the movie we had a nice buzz going on then there was this battle royal filled with blood. Needless to say our movie experience end with one of my buddies have to be carried out and his girlfriend livid because she had to drive us all home.

No Roger, No Rerun, No Rent!
February 14th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
TP’s going to Penn State. I have absolutely no info to support this. However I did read a quote that PSU is where his dad wants him to go. If it takes wheelchair dad to get him there, I’m fine with that, and yes, I am going to hell.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
coop…i see nothing wrong with that. carry on.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
@coop: I’m driving the bus. shotgun is all yours!
February 14th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I miss MST3K…. such a great show…
February 14th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Wow Sportsgal, you are the first girl I have ever met that liked the show. EVERY woman in my life (past friends, girlfriends, mom, sister, cousins, everyone) thought it was the dumbest thing on TV and I couldnt sway them otherwise
+1 to you
February 14th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
@Sterlin (hope you see this!): I’m shocked! The show is HILARIOUS, how can anyone not like it? I can still remember the first episode I saw… I think Comedy Central was doing some sort of Emmy special where they were showing all the comedies that were nominated that year. They aired some horrible movie with Kathy Ireland (just checked IMdB, I think it was Alien in L.A.) and my whole family (Mom included!) practically peed our collective pants laughing.

Mole – Comment No. 2, Im right there with ya.
Sgal – That must be an anomoly. I think I was the only not Tech/Trekkie/WoW/etc. guy I know that liked that show. It was the only thing remotely SciFi that I have ever liked. Still have the VHS of the finale “Diabolik!” that I had to tape. Not many shows have ten year runs like that one.
