Top Shelf: the Marty Brodeur Billboard
NHL February 17th. 2008, 1:00pmBecause he doesn’t ever stop, Lee Diekemper is here to regal you with tales of frozen water and sticks and skates. In addition to consistently pumping out good material, Lee also makes time for the homeless saxophone players outside NHL arenas, cooking them meals free of charge and supporing their delusional dream of one day replacing Kevin Eubanks or Paul Shaffer. Lee is a model citizen, and one hell of a Quidditch player.Â
A new week has begun. So Top Shelf takes a peek at some good hits from last week and looks at yesterday’s games.
New Jersey 3, Ottawa 2: While the Wings are doing a good job of trying to lose their Western Conference lead, so too are the Sens in the Eastern Conference. The Sens have won just five of their last 16 games. Devils goalie Marty Brodeur, who wants to double as a billboard, turned back 37 shots as the Devils pulled within two points of the Sens for the conference top seed. Devils right wing Arron Asham, who scored two goals, likes Newark.
New York Rangers 5, Buffalo 1: The Rangers came out flying in their “best effort of the year†(?) and chased Sabres goalie Ryan Miller in the first period. Sabres forward Tim Connolly may not play against the Penguins tonight.
Washington 3, Tampa Bay 2: In a battle between Vinny Lecavalier and Alex Ovechkin, only Lecavalier had a point (an assist). The teams had a wild finish with four third period goals. Caps defenseman Tom Poti missed his second straight game with a deep thigh bruise.
Montreal 1, Philadelphia 0: Flyers fans’ misery continues thanks to a crazy goal from Andrei Kostitsyn. Habs goalie Carey Price gets his first NHL shutout.

Vancouver 4, Edmonton 2: The Canucks win the battle of western Canada. When these two teams meet, boys will be boys.

The Flyers game was painful, but a terrific one. Flyers had a full 2 minute 5 on 3 in the 3rd period; the puck was in the Habs end the entire time; Price stopped shot after shot. Great game Habs. I look forward to the rematch tonight.

i was so shocked that diguineaetro got a win for my fantasy team then i looked at the box score and saw that he faced less than ten shots the whole game. easily the most overrated player in the league, but on that game alone garth snow extended his contract until 2030
